Just saw this TikTok of an exasperated woman fed up with males portraying themselves as better men than they really are. She's driving down the street with a megaphone shouting that men need to be more honest about if they suck.

This leads me to my question. People always say, "Just be yourself" is ostensibly to ensure that the person ends up liking you for who you really are and you don't have to maintain a facade for the rest of your life. But being your basic self, while everyone else is putting their best foot forward will lower your odds of success.

And then there's the new version of, "Just be your best self". But at what point is your best? Unmaintainable over the long term?
