EDIT!! The title seems to be confusing people so I’m not asking your personal preference on makeup- but your thoughts on the morality and “deceitfulness” of makeup

Let me start off by saying I’m really not sure where to stand on this topic personally.

As a woman who enjoys wearing light to moderate amounts of makeup semi-frequently, obviously when I see “Women are tricking people by using makeup.” I instinctively recoil in disagreement, but seeing it from an outside, rational perspective, I’m not sure I agree with the whole “I only wear makeup for myself and never men. Don’t get ahead of yourself u sexist” narrative.

As for personal experience, I wear it mostly to generally improving my impression to the general public. (Friends, teachers, bosses, whatever) but I would be lying if I said I NEVER wore it to try and impress a man I was interested in, though it’s a very small percentage of the reasons why I wear makeup.

Does this mean I’m being inherently deceitful to anyone that sees me in public while wearing makeup? (I mean this as a serious question, not rhetorical)

In a date situation, I feel it’s the same as just taking care of yourself for a man you fancy, almost etiquette; like how a man will trim his beard, get a nice face accentuating haircut, and wear a suit.

So is it unfair? Deceitful? Is a woman who wears a lot of or any amount of makeup inherently a bad person? Or is it just unfair because it’s socially unacceptable for men to wear makeup in general but women can?

Where my mind wanders to after this is: what about things like perfume? Deodorant? Wearing clothing that accentuates your body type?

It’s not natural, it’s temporary, and it can change your image to the people around you.

If a woman is open about what she looks like without makeup is it okay? And people who change DRASTICALLY are really honestly rare, and it’s quite obvious in real life, so are you guys only talking about the minimal percentage of women who wear makeup-artist level face morphing makeup? But if that’s the case I don’t think it would be such a frequent topic.

Also, I’m a serious advocate for normalizing men wearing makeup, (concealer and brow pencils can go a long way) and if makeup for men were to be normalized, would it be less “bad” for women to wear makeup?

ALSO this is mostly referring to real life interactions, not tinder or IG, where it’s photoshop rather than makeup.

PS this is NOT about personal preference of makeup/no makeup, I’m talking about is it morally wrong/deceitful for women to wear makeup.

And if it’s only wrong when they drastically change, where is that line? Is it only bad if “ugly” women make themselves look better? Naturally pretty people too?

Looking forward to any discussion.
