About three weeks ago I went on a date with young woman. We had talked for about a week and had great conversation. A great dinner too!! and when it came time to pay she offered to split the check. I said no don’t worry about it but she insisted. I’ve then relented and said OK.

About two days later I text her and ask her how things are going with her business. (over dinner she was telling me about a lot of complications) The only thing I got back was “ you didn’t pass the test”

Idk maybe I’m delusional or maybe I missed some thing and the dinner wasn’t great. But it left me confused as hell

A girl asked me on a date to a nice bar, which she requested. She drank 6 cocktails which were about $18 each, dumplings and dessert. I was drinking $4 house beer. At the end of the date she says "OK cool I'm going to the bathroom, you wanna go pay and we can get out of here?" she turned and left to go to the bathroom before I could say anything.

I paid for my beers and the food, waited at the front for her to come and when she got to the counter she was shocked I hadn't paid for her drinks. I told her that I'm not going to be paying over a hundred dollars for her cocktails the first night we meet, and she has the nerve to tell me "that's a bit rude of you, I wouldn't have ordered them if I knew I was paying."

Did not see her again.

This reminds me of one of my favorite bad dates from when I was single.

I matched with the woman on an app and we hit it off texting. I asked if she wanted to grab lunch at a bistro and she said sure. We had a great lunch, with conversation flowing easily the whole time. Things were looking good.

The check arrived and she offered to split it with me. I said no—that if it was ok with her, I’m happy to pay since I had suggested the place. She then asked if she could at least cover the tip. I said sure, because I know that some women are uncomfortable with men paying for everything due to previous bad experiences with men feeling they were “owed”. The tip was $6.

We walked to our cars, said our goodbyes, and I drove away feeling it was a promising first date!

A day or two later, I texted her and told her I had fun and asked if would she like to meet up again. She said no—and guess why. Yep, because I “let” her pay the $6 tip. She then lectured me about how a gentleman should cover everything.

So I then told her that if her fellow 40-something, white-collar self is that petty, rejecting a man for falling into a $6 trap that she purposefully set, then good riddance to her mindgames and to enjoy her continued singlehood. Immediately, her texting bubble reply started up. I blocked her before she was finished typing.

I now have a completely normal, loving, non-mindgame-playing girlfriend. She and I love to compare these dating stories from our histories.

I went on my first date in the area that I moved too. The lady who showed up was about 10 years older than any of her pictures she sent me but I said w/e maybe she's really cool and nice so I stuck with the date. When it came time to pay she didn't even attempt to pay for herself. Like not even a slight movement to her purse. That pretty much ended it right there. The entitlement that women have is insane where even the unattractive girls think they should get everything for free. I was expecting a young girl in her 30's but what showed up was a woman shaped blob that looked like she was entering her 50's. Nothing about her was attractive.

My first girlfriend hated the idea of my paying for dates. Our first date when we met we got the bills separate (it was a Japanese place that makes each meal separate according to an order form) i offered to pay for both the meals and she was reluctant at first but said "ok, fine" she followed me up to the counter and after I paid for my meal shoved me aside to pay for her own.

For the rest of our dates she would race me to the till and pay for the meal before I had the chance to get out of my seat.

Needless to say, if you say you'll pay for the meal you better mean it.

I never argue about paying for something. If someone offers to pay for my meal or something, I gracefully and respectfully accept. And if I offer to pay for something for someone I expect they'll accept my generous offer as well.

Due to covid, restaurants are the main option if you don't want to freeze.

Recently I had a couple of first dates with Ivy-league educated women who prob make over $200k, and they all played dumb when the ~$100 check arrived. I make way more than them, granted, but still, I am not a charity. These dates went well overall, but not amazing - so I have zero desire to get back in contact with these women (and they don't seem to have taken the initiative either).

The only one that I really wanted to treat with a good restaurant was a broke live-in nanny, and before I could, she offered to go for a walk in the park. When we got there, she insisted in treating me with a hot chocolate. I had tears in my eyes.

That's how low the bar is for us, men...
