This kind of reminds me of a guy I knew in the military. He had 19 years in and his wife asked for a divorce. They had been married the entire time he was in, so she would be entitled to half his retirement pay.

He requested to get out early. He was in an MOS that was being deactivated, so he could take a severance pay being offered.

Everyone thought he was nuts, yet in his mind he said it would piss him off every month knowing his ex-wife was getting half of his retirement.

He took the 47k after taxes, went to Bangkok and bought a brothel. I think he's still there last I heard.
