Divorce was once taboo in the West. Men marrying women in the 60s, 50s, 40s knew the small fortune they would scrap and save for over the course of their lives wouldn’t be taken from them by their wives—that they’d never get divorced, that no one did, that it was a nonissue. If they were Catholic, it was written in doctrine. Protestant Denominations would allow it, but still, it didn’t happened. Why? Because married women actively belittled divorced women.

To be divorced was to be a slut. A piece of garbage thrown away, tossed on the side of the road like bulk pick up. If someone was going to dust her off and refurbish her it wouldn’t be anyone good. And she’d have to live with that stigma throughout every part of daily life. At the grocery store, at Church, at community events. She’d be lucky if she had any friends left, and if she did they were only still friends with her to accumulate information and gossip behind her back. Those friends were just tools of the women in town to collect info on her pathetic life and pass it on to other women so they could all salivate over it. Nothing brought them more pleasure.

So what killed this great cultural construct? The cultural revolution that happened in the 60s and 70s. What aspect of it? That I’m not entirely certain of.

I’m not sure if it was birth control, or television. Popular music or illicit drugs. Frankly it doesn’t matter. But marriage is dead. And if you do decide to get married, you are not a practical thinker, and I’m going to tell you why.

Would you give someone an incentive to hurt you? Would you hand someone a gun and tell them if they shoot you in the leg that they’d get your kids and half your money? Unless you’re one of those freaks who likes wearing leather, NO you wouldn’t.

Well what if they were really cool?

No... you still wouldn’t. Because even if they’re “a good person,” they’re still incentivized to hurt you.

Well what if they signed a paper that if they shoot the gun, they still get your kids and a portion of your wages until your last kid turns 18, but not half of your fortune if the judge decides not to throw that paper in the trash.

No, you still wouldn’t.

So don’t get married, and be wary of taking advice from people that advise you to do so, or people that are married in general. Men who actively give another party an incentive to destroy their lives should not be taken seriously.
