Dude, Tony Robbins.

*mind blown* Everything he says makes it seem so simple. He talks about how we're creatures of habit who follow patterns or rituals. The reason we are fat is because we've established a pattern of overeating. The reason we're insecure is because we've established patterns of negative thoughts. He teaches you how to relearn these new patterns and is amazing.

7 Habits of Highly Effective People is by far the best self improvement book I've ever read. With Models and How to Win Friends and Influence People second and third.

Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins. I'm about 65% through the book and the deeper I get into it the more effective it becomes. He teaches how to break old destructive or nonconstructive patterns and replace them with new empowering ones. I look at things a lot differently now and it's definitely elevated my baseline state.

No More Mr Nice Guy is another must-read. Whatever you think it means to be a good man may be completely wrong. This book does a really good job of guiding you through the mistakes you may be making in your way of thinking and acting and what you need to do to fix them. I didn't consider myself a "nice guy" but read it because it was recommended on here so much and found that I actually had some "nice guy" tendencies.

There is one phenomenal book that hasn't been mentioned that I think is the most vital book every man alive should read.

David Deida - Way of The Superior Man

It's a guide into what it means to be a man in modern society. It isn't about pickup or dating, it's about everything to do with being a man. When you read it, you get a huge number of AHA moments, where issues in your life suddenly make sense. I make all my students read it when I coach them.

I was recommended Budda's Brain by Rick Hanson, and while I like the book a lot (it's about the neuroscience of meditation), I actually like the follow up book better- Just One Thing.

It's something like 52 very small chapters and each chapter talks about something you can actively do to change your brain to make yourself happier and healthier, more loving etc. Each chapter goes into what the thing is, why it's important to improve on, and exactly how to improve in that aspect in your life to reap the mental benefits. A few chapter titles to give examples are: Aspire without attachment, use your willpower, accept the limits of your influence, see the good in yourself, and tend to the causes of success instead of being focused on the result.

The author is both a neuroscientist and a meditation practitioner, and I highly recommend it. Both this book and 7 habits of highly effective people are like my personal holy bibles of self improvement.

Listen to RSD's Blueprint. It goes far beyond pickup into looking at yourself and your purpose. That coupled with Models has changed my outlook on life. And I'm a Philosophy major who is well read on these types of things.

The Nerd's Guide to Being Confident by Mark Manson

Summary: it dives deeper into vulnerability, self acceptance, assertiveness, and how to take more responsibility for what happens in your life.

The Evolution of Desire

While this book is not about self-confidence per se, you need to know of the universal forces at work here. Far too many people take things personally (such as thinking I'm too short/ugly/weak/etc.). Biological forces are driving women to think/act/desire in a certain way. Stop blaming them. Set your boundaries and work with them. Have the wisdom to change what you can change, and accept what you can't. Some things in life you can't change... just accept it and move on.

The Feel Good Factor is a great source of information for self-love strangely enough. Much of how we feel about ourselves can be attributed to imbalances of our bio-chemistry as a result of poor nutrition.

Focus on eating things getting things like omega-3 from fish, cod liver oil, vitamin D supplements (as almost everybody doesn't get enough from the sun). That's the nutrition side. Another one on self love that I keep hearing over and over is The Six Pillars of Self Esteem. I havn't read it yet, but might grab a copy soon.

I think the most important book for a lot of the people in the subreddit would be the first one mentioned in the FAQ, David Burns's "Feeling Good." It's marketed as a book about depression, but it's so much more than that. The book spells out a mature philosophy towards life that everyone could benefit from. If you have a low self-esteem, misdirected anger, sadness, or any of a whole slew of other problems, this book offers you tools to improve all of these things. I'd say it's second only to "How to Win Friends and Influence People."

zorba the greek by nikos kazantzakis. while it's not a "self-help" book per se, reading it has had a bigger influence on my game, self-perception, and overall attitude towards life than pretty much any other book i can think of.

Way of the seal by mark Devine is my recommendation. Check out the amazon reviews to get a sense if it will strike a cord with you. I have found the meditation exercises as well as building weekly goals very helpful. Read through it a couple times.

Also, mindfulness in plain English. Great beginner book about how to meditate without getting too overwhelming.

Oh boy, mind blown. You may quit your job tomorrow and head to the beach. Wait, on second thought, don't read this book until you have spent a few years doing the 9-5. Even Tesla was hooked on Vivakanada.

The science of life, death and attaining the knowing if it all. You die, it's not that bad, and what happens next. And this boy chase girl, girl chase boy will seem so meaningless in the end. But that's ok. ;-)

Not to sound like an anti-post tool, but I'm willing to bet you would learn more about your self- by approaching a girl on the street and saying, "Hi, I saw you from just over there and decided I had to meet you, my name is ____, what's your name?" than you would learn from 100 pages of any given self-anything book.
