Yeah I used this on a guy and he lost his shit. I just rolled my eyes and said "point proven even without the horrendous pain and general ickiness of an actual period. ". He was really mad. I had to try not to laugh.
Unfortunately the irony was lost on him and so he does as man is wont to do and started attacking me personally. Men in general are too emotional to reason with. They only seem to calm down if another man explains things to them from a man's perspective because viewing a situation objectively doesn't come easily to them. Even then , it's hard to find a male source who will back you up. They just call him a simp. Idk if men can really logic at all that well.

Why is this such a common phenomenon with those types of men? Like a dumb child who doesn't realize how unaware it actually is. I just got a message reading something like "Theehee you're biologically weaker" (not kidding) and some yabbayabba "catlady" assumptions. (again, I am really not kidding you). I like to caricature or do sarcastic role- plays on r /ActualStraightMen, but nobody can humor those males better than they do it themselves, and it would be SO hilarious if they wouldn't actually mean it so seriously and really be dumb like that. On the other hand... this makes it all so much more fun.

One time, when I was in the Navy. I was giving orders to my subordinates. I wasn't putting up with any distractions, I just finished a 14 hour day. This boy asked me if I was on my period or something. I told him "no, but if I was I would shove my tampon down your throat". I admit it wasn't my classiest comeback, but he never made any stupid comments after that.

A family history of it increases your chances of having it. I'm pretty certain that my youngest sister has it and am trying to get her to try the pill for a while to alleviate it as that's what helped me a ton when I was younger. I was actually diagnosed by an aunt who's an N.P. and also had it. After 2 years on the pill, then a few years off, my cycle normalized and my periods are no longer so intense. If the side effects are a put-off, you might only need to take it for a little while to get the positive effects for endo; I've been off the pill for a good 8 years now and I'm still pain-free and regular.
Or you could just have a baby, that's also been known to do the trick. lol

Definitely no baby! I was consistently on birth control for years, and no pain. In my teen years it was terrible. A few months ago had a break up so I was just trying to give my body a break from the hormones and I feel like I'm a teen again it's something awful. Very debilitating. I do need to see my obgyn so I will make sure to bring it up and go from there.

Yeah, you should definitely work with a doctor to figure this out. If it helps, in my experience, it took about 18 months of being off the pill for my system to normalize. It got worse before it got better, but only a medical professional can say for sure what's gonna work for you. Some women with endo need to stay on the pill until they're ready for pregnancy to see relief.

If you're planning on having kids at any point, keep in mind that endo can also make you infertile. It did to me but luckily was reversible with a laparoscopy & ablation. Sometimes the effects are irreversible. A laparoscopy & ablation can actually help with the pain if other methods fail too but I'm not sure where you're from & therefore how accessible it could be for you. Makes me very grateful that I'm in the UK & have access to the NHS because my periods suuuucked! (& also because infertility is a brutal bitch).

The pain often gets much better after having a child / giving birth.
And my bleeding has changed too, it has gotten very heavy during the first days.
But at least the huge pain subsided greatly and is now much more tolerable, so I don't need drugs against cramps anymore.

But in fact while we menstruate our hormones are in flux which causes us to become emotional. It’s not taking the blame away from men for behaving violently. Rather explaining possible biological triggers. Basically, the same pleasing feeling (adrenaline rush) people get while on a roller coaster, is how some men feel during a physical altercation. Also I just want to add that having an attitude is not necessarily a bad thing. Oftentimes men mistake having a backbone with having an attitude in women. They don’t like when we hold our ground and have our own opinions.

I'm not disagreeing with that hormones are in flux and causes us to be emotional. I'm disagreeing with the fact that men are violent just cuz of of their hormones. Also, getting an adrenaline rush from physical altercation is an effect, not a cause.
Youre really moving the point of your original comment, because you originally were basically saying hormones effect women to be emotional in the same way hormones effect men to be violent, when the latter is MUCH MORE on self responsilibty than hormones. Don't even put them in the same argument because it's not even remotely the same degree to which they play a role.

An otome game creator I'm acquainted with had to put a blog post/note to players after getting feedback that certain situations with the main character were unrealistic. What was this feedback she was getting? That no woman's period/cycle was painful enough to cause fainting etc.
And considering the demographic it had to be other women (or male trolls posing as women) writing this. Like, seriously.

Wow, lovely. It could very well have been men posing as women, but I also think sometimes women are socialized not to empathize with each other. If a woman has a relatively easy period, she might assume that others are faking the pain.
My mom had terrible pain growing up, so I knew everything wasn’t roses for some women (I’ve had rough ones, but none to the point of what I had yesterday).
Also, women’s health in general is minimized, so it could also be a way for women to “one-up” each other a la “I’m not like other women, I just deal with my period and don’t whine about it.” Ah, internalized misogyny.

My mom did the same thing because she was one of the rare women in my family who had 'normal' periods and she also lacked the empathy to take someone else's pain seriously. She actually refused to let me stay home from school when I was curled up in a ball and crying because she said I was faking it for attention. Luckily for me, I was saved by a relative who knew that much pain wasn't normal and diagnosed me with endometriosis and prescribed the pill.

Yeah, that's very true. I always had really easy periods and in my family we don't talk about anything period-related, ever... I first found out that my experience of a period isn't the norm when I went to college and met girls who talked freely about it. Before that, I honestly thought everyone has a really easy period and that this whole grumpy while on your period thing was just a big myth! Mind you, this was 20 years ago and I'm really glad that the conversation about periods is so much more open these days. Now, there's really no excuse for being ignorant anymore.

If I didn't lie down, I would faint to - it blackened more and more in front of my eyes. Very uncomfortable sensation.
After giving birth everything got much better. No fainting and lesser pain during cramps, though much more blood in the first days.

If you don't know how to be kind to a woman during their period, you should probably just date a rock or something.
On another caveat, people talking about testosterone on here are kind of spreading misinformation too. Like sure, testosterone plays a role, but it's so much more than that. The menstruation cycle is a complex things that can not be just explained away with one hormone. It is a disservice to us to say so.

Maybe she deals with really severe symptoms during periods, in which case misinformation and assumptions like what the guy spewed can be harmful and invalidating. Not only that but a lot of women deal with complications with their menstrual cycle and not being kind to someone when they are dealing with something medically and just telling them to stop having an attitude is incredibly unsympathetic and shitty.
We don't know, but if you're going to give benefit of the doubt to the guy and none for the woman, that says something about you.
