Isn’t there an easy way to avoid this? A coffee date perhaps? It’s insane to expect someone to go all out on a first date, especially if you met through a dating app.

This " scientific study" didn't use representative samples and says they can't tell if it's accurate for women. It also says it could be perpetrated by all genders. Additionally, it states that people who engaged without seeing it as socially unacceptable also scored higher on dark triad tests. It should be no surprise that narcissists (of any gender) engage in this behavior.
Your text translates to a lot of intense feelings and resentment about this topic. I'm sure SOME women do that because they're humans, and humans aren't all good. This reads more to me like you really, really want a reason to not pay for dates. That's your decision, and that's fine, but own it for what it is.

So let’s set this straight. There were two online surveys conducted.

One found that 23% of women had gone on a date only for the meal at least once. Of those women, 25% do so frequently or very frequently.

The other found that 33% of women had gone on a date only for the meal at least once. Of those women, 21% do so frequently or very frequently.

That means of that in the population of women who answered these surveys, 6-7% are “repeat offenders” who go on foodie calls all the time and think nothing of it.

Links please... because if you've been being told that here it is by a very few very specific individuals...who are probably also flaired to reflect their general.approach to dating. It's very not the consensus that emerges among women here every time the topic is raised. Invariably the consensus is that the food's usually not all that valuable to a woman except in so far as it enables dates at awkward times (like just after work) so invite women on the sort of dates you're actually willing to pay for...that way you can stop stressing about the cost. Even most of the women who would prefer an expensive first date tend to agree...you shouldn't issue a more expensive date invitation than you are comfortable with.

This is not representative of the general population and none of the women in this sub should be expected to account for it.

This is why I get tired of women on here trying to say that it doesn't happen. This is a third of women who are admitting to it. How many women won't look back on their previous dates that they went out on because "I have nothing else to do tonight and don't want to cook" or "eh, I'm bored" as foodie calls? I don't even bother with going out or trying to go out with women who weren't already established friends beforehand at this point because of this bullshit.

I suspect some women go out just to have something to do, not necessarily for a free meal. I prefer to split checks, but obviously can’t speak for all women.

Also, some men can’t handle being rejected. So when she is not interested after a date (which is probably the norm after meeting a random stranger from the apps) men tend to reach for excuses that are outside of them. So the typical oh she just wanted a free meal. Like no, she’s just not attracted to you

Now, let's get this straight. Only one third of people asked have ever went on a date mainly because they wanted food (and may well have developed interest in the date but food was what got them out the door). And that number will be going down as it's increasingly the default that people pay for their own food. And two thirds have never even once went on dates looking for food.

I think people in this thread aren’t understanding the purpose of it.

Whether it’s actually 1/3 or it’s 1/10, that’s still enough if a portion to take seriously and factor into all dating.
