When you get a new weapon in a video game, you don't know how to use it, but the enemy isn't a threat so you have time to work on it.

Yeah

[–]kevinkat2 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Just roll straight through the 5 meters long katana

[–]NotACompleteDumbass 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

With the right timing, everything can be rolled through. Wall of fire? Massive greatsword being wielded by a giant? Fuck it, roll through.

[–]kevinkat2 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yea the game doesn't really make sense in it's dodging mechanics but my god does it feel good to roll through an attack by a huge weapon

[–]NotACompleteDumbass 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Especially when you know the attack could kill you, like the Fume Knight's attacks.

[–]kevinkat2 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fume knight is the best thing about an overall not great game, the DLC's really saved dks2's reputation.

Just keep dodging, the low level mob attacks are all dodgeable.

Does he not have a taser? Just curious.

[–][deleted] 454 points455 points456 points 8 years ago (102 children) | Copy Link

Police are NOT required NOR trained to use the least intrusive level of force available. Once their safety/life is in danger, they are trained to eliminate the threat. Tasers don't always work, carry a risk of cardiac arrest, and have a history of not working on people who are under the influence of certain substances.

This woman was endangering the public and the officer. Deploying the nightstick WAS the least amount of force available at his disposal, unless you would have preferred that he punch her in the face or just shot her.

[–]nazgabagul 170 points171 points172 points 8 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link

I think what op wanted to say was that the cop seemed to spend a fair amount of time swinging that nightstick just out of range of her. If he had used his taser, the situation might have ended a lot quicker, potentially without him having to bring her down hard like he had to.

[–]Stevonz123 106 points107 points108 points 8 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Being tazed on concrete is the hardest you can be brought down.

[–]patrikas2 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And here I thought a gunshot to the knees took the cake

[+]nazgabagul -49 points-48 points-47 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

I’d definitely disagree with you. When you get tased, you seize up for a second and then fall down, under your own weight. That officer had to bring her down with her weight and his weight.

[–]ElMoncho 67 points68 points69 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I disagree with you. When being tazed your whole body locks up and there is no way for the person being tazed to cover their head/face. If you notice when she is dropped, she lands on her side which better than bagging your head on concrete. Telling it from experience of being tazed myself.

[–]nazgabagul 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That’s a good point, I didn’t really think of that. I haven’t been tazed so I can’t really speak on what the experience is like, I guess. However, I do think that a cop bringing you down with him is at least a little rougher than being tazed, especially if the person being tazed isn’t running. She was standing still, I would think she’d be better off being tazed than bodyslammed.

[–]ElMoncho 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just check the videos where people get tazed and bang their heads/faces. Compare it to the gif of the lady being thrown and let me know what you think after that.

[–]Recycle0rdie 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The point is she was being an absolute tool and fucking with everyones day. Not only that, she assaulted the officer and if youre too stupid to know what you get after that then you deserve to be crushed into the pavement. Man or woman doesnt matter.

[–]Valac_I whiteKnight for fatties -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Being tased isn't that bad.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Why'd you get tazed bro?

[–]GilesDMT 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Time for bed

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I thought the reference was funny.

[–]ElMoncho 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Went to weapons demo... Police were giving people a chance to get tazed as to see how it feels and demonstrate weapon use. Doesn't hurt as much as it makes your body lock up.

[–]kragshot 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's the same principle of when you hear about an unconscious person surviving a fall from a great height with few injuries. Their being unconscious means that their body is totally relaxed so their body just concentrates on absorbing the entire shock of the impact.

If you are in a state of electric shock, all of your muscles are tensed up at once, so besides the damage of the impact of falling, the body will also have to risk muscle damage from the fall possibly over-stressing and tearing locked joints and muscles.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Which is exactly why it is the hardest you can be brought down. At least in this circumstance she was hip-tossed so her side hit the concrete first. If your tazed its very possible/likely that you'll hit your head and doing that on concrete is a good way to get killed.

It may not happen often but hitting your head from that height directly onto concrete can kill a person if they hit it just right.

[–]infamousnexus1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

I wish he would have brought her down harder.

I was thinking a good ole 'Stone Cold Stunner' would've been totally justified... but also epic.

[–]quiznex 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not as epic as when The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer’s table... but it's epic enough.

[–]CGA001 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If he had used his taser, the situation might have ended a lot quicker...

The key to the answer to this is the use of the word "might".

Tasers, despite popular belief, are not a foolproof defensive tactic. The only way a taser is effective is if you manage to land both shots on the moving target, and that the target isn't whacked out on hardcore drugs. A lot of individuals on drugs are so hyped up with adrenaline that sometimes, the taser does nothing to them. Generally speaking, tasers are only used if there are other officers around who can assist if the taser fails.

Meanwhile, no one is immune to batons. A broken bone is a broken bone no matter who you are. Even if this officer had a taser on him, this was the smart course of action.

[–]GalagaMarine 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He was swinging his baton at her legs but Mrs. Fatass kept stepping back

[–]zgh5002 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Contrary to popular belief, tasers really aren't all that safe.

[–]TotallyNotanOfficer 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Tasers don't always work, carry a risk of cardiac arrest, and have a history of not working on people who are under the influence of certain substances.

They don't even have to be under certain substances. Relevant video

And if we're talking about being on substances, here is a man on PCP who has literally no reaction to being tased, repeatedly - or being hit by batons.

[–]BatmanIsSmartAf 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

here is a man on PCP

I don't understand this. Tasers work physiologically on the muscles. PCP is a NMDA receptor antagonist, which if I remember correctly, don't have anything to do with muscles. How does this work?

[–]Sexualwhore 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Nmda cascade causes acytlcholine antagonism and our muscles only function on either that, or by nicotinic muscuranic receptors, which is why smoking is so addictive. Feeding your muscles with feel goods. Also i believe myosin which triggers muscle release is margined in part by atp which is codependent of actyl coa which go hand in hand with each other. So pcp just causes too much of a blockage in part by antagonism of the nmda + its cascade constituents, but also the myosin is already relieved by mitochondrias ability to expel any atp that would react to the current of the tazer. In other words, what seems to be a nerve thing is actually a cell currency thing. Thats to pcp

Anyone correct any misses please, maybe there is something more

Edit: the acytl coa is made in part by cholesterol and other esthers which function as both a myelin sheath ingredient, and hormone + vitamin and whole bunch of other things so when its released in abundant amounts there are actually more esthers in your blood stream. That free cholesterol acts as a attuner for the voltage and believe it or not (im just speculating, if anyone wants to actually research be the hero we deserve) is enough to take down the amount of shock the nerves receive by a substantial amount. 50,000 volts is shit when the body is insulated in delicious cholesterol esters. Yea each nerve only needs 75 millivolts to transmit, but when the cells are not using the biochemical potential at the synapse, the nerves have no obligation to transmit, and 75 millivolts * a billion which is supremely conservative add up to more than a few batteries worth of voltage, when the real power is in amperage which are all held by the body in chemical energy. Just one of those processes i mentioned extract a real good amount of atomic energy. It aint playin with batteries. It uses atoms mf

Ok like i said anyone hop on here and fix any errors

[–]TotallyNotanOfficer 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How does this work?

No idea. Same goes with how people on say PCP can be reported to be inhumanly strong under its influence. It shouldn't change the effect, but for some reason it appears that it may.

[–]Revan343 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Can't really feel pain on dissociatives, so you aren't prevented from overexerting to an extent that would damage your muscles in the long run

[–]TotallyNotanOfficer 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Same applies to adrenaline though. You don't feel pain properly or at all when it dumps into your system. Given a substantial number of encounters can have/cause adrenaline dumps, adrenaline should do the same then, no?

[–]Revan343 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I would expect so, but you don't generally get adrenaline spikes that often. Frequently taking epinephrine intentionally in order to perform feats of strength would probably start to damage your muscles-- but I think in that case your heart would give out first

[–]johnq-pubic 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wow. Hats off to those policemen, in your 2nd link. That guy was not going down, but they stayed calm and didn't use deadly force.

[–]TotallyNotanOfficer 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, they handled it pretty well.

[–]BroaxXx 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The video of the guy on PCP is clearly being misinterpreted. On the first taser shot one of the electrodes doesn't pierce the skin (you can see it at 0:55 where one of the wires is rolled on itself). The second shot does hit with both electrodes and the guy is visibly incapacitated (at around 1:56).

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She is a big girl. Going for an immediate body slam or tazer might not have worked as well. But I'd love to see a tazer to the face for once.

[–]wasdninja1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Her size doesn't matter for the tazer though. You fall like a rock, big or small.

[–]gerrettheferrett 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

... False. By a long shot.

Lots of bigger fellas can remain a standing.

Also, those on certain substances often can tank it.

Do your research before commenting.

[–]flaviuscrispus 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

are they trained to strike the legs though? I was wondering why he just didn't jab her in the face with the nightstick.

[–]ionicomb 69 points70 points71 points 8 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Quads, glutes, deltoid, are all green. (1st target) Belly, groin, flank, joints (knees, elbows, wrists, ankles) yellow (2nd target Head, neck, spine red (lethal force)

[+]flaviuscrispus -30 points-29 points-28 points 8 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

interesting, I'd never've'd thought hitting someone in the head with a nightstick was considered lethal force.

[–]fucknazimodz 25 points26 points27 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hitting somebody in the head with pretty much anything is considered lethal force

[–]FountainsOfFluids 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"I hear that's like really bad for you." - Archer

[–]m00k0w 44 points45 points46 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Please think or look up more about it. This goes for everybody reading, because there is this thing I see where it seems like very few people are aware of the implications of head and spinal blows / injury. A well-placed hit, not even necessarily very strong, but just with the right vector/angle of force application, can leave a person permanently physically or mentally disabled.

We see this problem in comments for MMA or amateur fights, where everyone is discussing the tactics and no one is talking about the fact every single punch or blow to the head could be a significant impact, worse than stabbing somebody in the gut. That heals, but your brain does not heal very easily.

[–]ionicomb 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You have to think of the index of suspicion of injury. If I crack you in the C1-3 area of your cervical spine (the base of your skull to 3 spinal notches down) with moderate force, I will like do a couple of things... 1. Sever your spinal colomn which will kill you instantly 2. Cause an internal hemorrhage which will swell and push the brain stem against the base of your spine essentially sheering It, which will kill You, albeit slower than a severe, but it will kill you 3. Cause severe swelling and occlude blood supply to several important parasympathetic nerve areas resulting in complete paralysis, which is a long slow torturous existence which subsequent infections such as pneumonia for example, will eventually kill you ie. Christopher Reeves. A strike to the flank or chest plate can cause a few life threatening injuries such as cardiac tamponade (blood build up in the pericardium that prevents the heart from pumping effectively) or a trauma pneumothorax (collapsed lung) or hemothorax (collapsed lung from hemorrhaging ) however all of those can be fixed realtively quickly and with minimal long term impact in comparison to spinal or cerebral hemorrhaging where in many cases there is literally nothing that can be done except wait to die.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. I have seen many instances of someone fucked up for life because they got punched in the face or kicked in the back of the head.

[–]SystemFolder 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They don’t weigh anywhere near that much. The standard police baton is the Monadnock PR-24. It weighs 23 ounces.

Jeez sorry man, there's definitely only one weight/size baton. I retract my other statement.

[–]Throwaway123465321 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No there are a lot but you might want to hit the gym if you picked up any baton and thought it weighed 20 pounds.

[–]GotSomeOliveInYaSkin 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How the fuck would you carry a 20 lbs baton on your belt....or swing it more than twice before you run out of juice. That's ridiculous.

Unless you are not being sarcastic right now. In which case, I retract my bewilderment.

[–]flaviuscrispus 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I never knew they weighed that much

[–]fucknazimodz 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They don't. Nightsticks weigh 2-3 pounds. No idea where this guy gets his info. Maybe he lives in dark age Europe and is confusing nightstick with maces

[–]AsteRISQUE 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Same, I was wondering how the drunk was able to dodge the 1st few strikes.

Now I know that there are green->red areas for striking and that it weighs significantly more than just a regular baton, which makes it a lot more difficult.

Good on that cop for using the safest way to stop her.

edit: added cop compliment

[–]Throwaway123465321 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's a no hit zone that starts at the head and extends downward the width of your head. So sides and legs are okay, groin and face wouldn't be for example.

At least that's what I heard from a cop buddy years ago.

We all know you are quite happy for it, that is part of the fucking problem that we are trying to fix, calm the fuck down. Have you seen how many people we punish by shooting and jailing? I know, we ALL like revenge, hell there are many subreddits dedicated to it and I love them too; but it's NOT WOKING. Like a lot of things that we Americans hold dear, this why we are no longer NUMBER ONE at anything other than punishing people.

I know I am going to get punished for this one, please be gentle.

[+][deleted] -45 points-44 points-43 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

I'm with u/Vip3r20: he should have used a taser. IIRC Police in the US are supposed to serve and protect which includes even fuckwits like this particular woman. This officer was attempting to hurt this person, not protect himself, the perpetrator or the public.

Deploying the nightstick WAS the least amount of force available at his disposal, unless you would have preferred that he punch her in the face or just shot her.

u/Sucessful-Troll has just highlighted why so many Americans are killed during arrest. I would hate to spoken to or interact with any member of the American Police force for any reason at all (based on most of the footage I've seen and news I've read). Until this military approach by police in the US changes a lot more people, including police, will be injured or die.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I do not disagree with what you say, I am simple pointing of how the law currently works. "Protect and serve" is a motto, not a legally binding statement of conduct. The entire US police force IS militarized. The last administration even authorized the sale of used military equipment to police forces. You have small local sheriff's departments serving warrants with swat teams and armored tactical vehicles.

This officer was attempting to hurt this person, not protect himself, the perpetrator or the public.

He was attempting to incapacitate her to remove the threat.

[+][deleted] -13 points-12 points-11 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My issue with his conduct isn't that he might harm someone who's dangerous and behaving dangerously, my issue is that he could surely have maced her or taser' her and it would have been safer?

What do you make of such heavily armed Police in America? I appreciate every time they stop a car the person(s) inside may be armed. So different to the UK where it is highly unlikely someone is armed with a fun. Maybe a knife but that can carry serious jail time.

[–]MustakaThinks breakfast food is gay sex 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If I recall not all police have tazers. Would have been much funnier to see her dropped that way though.

[–]GingerJack76 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can go blind from mace, and as mentioned before, tazing has its own risks. Plus both of them might not actually incapacitate the target, where is grappling them is safer in comparison. Having a few bruises from a night stick on the legs and sides isn't anything terrible, and if you're trying to harm a police officer, I don't think that's unreasonable amounts of force.

[–]GingerJack76 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

If you taze someone, they're going to fall without being able to catch themselves. If she were to fall on the concrete and hit her head, that might be a serious injury. Not to mentioned as before, it risks the officer because tasers don't always work, he might not be carrying one.

Also, expecting an officer to not use as much force as necessary to protect himself is insane. We have a serious problem with some sections of our population committing 50% of the murders, you don't have that in places like Germany. Saying that it's the police using military grade equipment is insane considering these other factors.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

He beat that woman onto the ground! Did you watch the video? Teasing her would have been way less effort and he could have always whacked her as well. I know I'd much rather be teased than beaten if I was resisting arrest.

Your second point: I just completely disagree with you. Policing in the UK is very reserved, very measured - psychical contact with the public (even if they're criminals) is usually a last resort and the officers are pretty limited as to what they can do.

Also interesting I've seen many Police in America patrol alone. Just one officer per car. Here Police almost always seem to work in pairs.

Obviously what works in one place may not work in another. I just feel like America is already very, very dangerous and a tooled up, militarised police force with an inferiority complex doesn't help that.

[–]GingerJack76 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You don't have guns, you don't have a poor community like we do. Like I said:

We have a serious problem with some sections of our population committing 50% of the murders...

I just feel like America is already very, very dangerous and a tooled up, militarised police force with an inferiority complex doesn't help that.

147 cops died in the USA last year while on duty. 104 have died this year. No cops, so far as I can find, have died in 2016 in the UK, and only one has died this year in the UK. I shouldn't fault you for being ignorant of this, but it is a lot more dangerous here, and it's not because of the cops, it's because our population is different. We have a much higher murder rate, and as I've already mentioned:

We have a serious problem with some sections of our population committing 50% of the murders...

Please don't presume your simplistic view of the world will fix everything, you're just going to make things worse.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

First of the UK certainly does have poverty. Worrying amounts of poverty.

I also can't see any police deaths for 2016 but I have to go to work. I will check in a bit more depth later and report back.

Lol to the back end of your comment! Why do you think:

  • your population is different?

  • your murder rate is higher?

  • no police deaths in the UK last year is anything other than a success?!

  • that my view of the world (as if someone's opinion) will make things worse?

[–]GingerJack76 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've already answered all of your questions, you're not reading what I wrote.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Also, I will add the there is a big "culture" problem with police in the U.S. They are taught to be "warrior guardians" They view themselves as going out "to do battle with the criminal element." Every citizen is a potential threat.

That is why IMHO, the police shootings have less to do with race and more to do with training and culture. Its not that cops are shooting minorities BECAUSE THEY ARE MINORITIES. Its because they are facing a set of circumstances that their training tells them to react to by shooting.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I agree that training and culture are more of a problem than racism (though I'm sure in some departments that combo is a potent mix).

Is there a way o train US officers in a way that keeps them safe and simultaneously gives potential innocent people a good amount of safety as well? The traffic stop and search training I've seen would be something I'd see soldiers doing in Mogadishu, Mosul or Aleppo, not in a civilian area.

What would it take to keep officers safe and stop people being investigated/arrested from being seriously hurt or killed?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The only way things will change is if there is a concerted effort at the national level to bring civil rights charges against departments that result in the entry of a consent decree under which the departments agree to a different training methodology.

[–]mouthpanties 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree, my concern is who actually become police. We dont pay them very much to put their life on the line. They have the right to go home safe, and that supersedes most of your rights. We dont have enough people to be cops if we expect more but dont pay quite a bit more. Or the cops just aren't going to care. I have friends how are cops in Oakland, they just answer 911 calls. Thats it. The city runs itself. If you don't support the police, they have legal ways to not support you.

While both men and women are a threat, This is true - Men have around 50% more muscle mass, and also produce about 50% more strength output for the same mass. Some 89% of men, are stronger than women. A whole 11% of women are stronger then men, and this accounts for age groups well into elderly ranges, when testosterone has a much lessened effect due to a lack of production. It's also a nationally representative sample, which means you have more disabled/elderly than otherwise would be included.

[–]TotallyNotanOfficer 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I provided you the link. What do you mean? It clearly details it.

"Combined grip strength by age and sex. Combined grip strength is the sum of the largest isometric grip strength readings from each hand, measured using a handgrip dynamometer. Grip strength is an index of upper body strength. Each point is one person. Sample size = 7064.
Data are from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2012: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nhanes/nhanes2011-2012/overview_g.htm
NHANES is a representative sample of the US noninstitutionalized civilian resident population of the United States. It utilizes a complex, multistage, probability sampling design. The sizes of the symbols represent the sampling weights.
The grip strength variables are described here: http://wwwn.cdc.gov/nchs/nhanes/2011-2012/MGX_G.htm
All ages > 80 were set to 80 to protect participant anonymity.
Plot was generated using the svyplot and svysmooth functions from the survey package in R.
EDIT 1: controlling for age, height, and weight, the adult female mean is 23.3 kg less than the adult male mean (without controlling for height and weight, the female mean is 33.8 kg less than the male mean). Adult: 18-60.
EDIT 2: Some of the very low values are individuals with disabilities (this is a nationally representative sample).
EDIT 3: In these NHANES data, 89% of adult men are stronger than the 89% of adult women.
EDIT 4: Grip strength is a decent proxy for upper and lower limb strength, and is also correlated with other indices of strength. Based on other studies, there is a smaller sex difference in lower body strength. Here is the conclusion of one recent study (Bohannon et al. 2012):

The findings of this study suggest that for healthy adults isometric measures of grip and knee extension strength reflect a common underlying construct, that is, limb muscle strength. Nevertheless, differences in activities requiring grip and knee extension strength and the findings of our analysis preclude a blanket advocacy for using either alone to describe the limb muscle strength of tested individuals.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3448119/

EDIT 4B: According to Pheasant (1983), a review of 112 datasets on sex differences in strength, the female/male ratio of lower limb strength is 66%. In chance encounters between a female and male, the female lower limb strength would be greater 12% of the time.

Edit 5: Male strength varies more than female strength: The standard deviation of adult male strength is 17.1 kg; that of adult female strength is 10.5 kg.

but prohibition wasn’t bad, per se. people could not drink wouldn’t die bc they couldn’t get their whisky, but drinking is fun… so prohibition = bad? it’s just the men got drunk and beat their wives within an inch of their lives, so they collectively decided they wanted to ban alcohol, and it worked. can you blame them for not wanting to be fucking decked in the face every day?

[–]Lord_ThunderCunt 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Are you fucking high?

Prohibition is bad. You ever hear of an organization called the mafia? They gained all their power in the states because of prohibition.

Look at the current money pit that is the war on drugs for a perfect example. The millions of dead because of drug policy did nothing but create criminals and cartels. The rise of for profit prisons and the school to prison pipe lines. It's an insane policy.

[–]KyubeyTheSpaceFerret1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

[–]Lord_ThunderCunt 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It was a total bullshit, we have alcohol today, you think every man that drinks knocks around his wife/girlfriend/significant other?

Prohibition was pushed forward by a minority of overly moral busy bodies with too much time on their hands.

And according to some one who replied to me earlier, funded by the Rothschilds to keep people from using grain alcohol as a cheap fuel alternative to oil.

And if you want to see some ugly faces do a Google image search for "lips that touch hooch, will never touch mine"

[–]KyubeyTheSpaceFerret1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Back then, beating your wife and children was widely accepted as one of a husband’s god-given rights. women were like… 3/4 people. Children like 1/2. We think of dogs as like 3/4 people. You would beat them sober, but you wouldn’t beat them like you did shitfaced. You don’t have any inhibitions sloppy drunk, you would hit them harder just because 1) you were drunk, you weren’t in your right mind and were angry, and 2) you were drunk, you weren’t dexterous enough to pull your punches– not that you would, you were an angry drunk.

Now, if you actually (drunk OR sober) beat your wife and do anything more than roughly spank your kids more than a couple times, you’re absolutely fucked. Your life is ruined, you’re going to jail, the rest of your life, at least socially, will be a struggle– as it should be. Don’t brutally assault people and don’t abuse your children, else you go to prison and rot.

The woman who really started prohibition’s husband died of alcoholism. Her message really resonated with Christian women (so, basically all women in America at the time) who adapted her message to being against drunk-beatings, too.

Can’t find anything related to “grain alcohol Rothschild oil” on google.

So they didn’t want to be in a relationship with an alcoholic, we can safely assume they were in a romantic relationship or had a personal relationship with one before and didn’t want to do that again. Keep in mind, this is the blue collar 1920-30s man + alcohol, not the 2010s man.

You know what happened to men beating their wives back then? The woman's fathers and brothers eventually found out about it and a wife beater got the shit kicked out of him.

Feminism is about empowering women and saying they are equal to men. You can’t blame feminism for the crazy ness of a person who probably had terrible parents and never learned how to be anything but a shithead.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 8 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is about empowering women and saying they are equal to men.

except they aren't. equality is a myth. if one man can be better than another man, that stands to reason that one man can be better than many men. and if a man can be better than many men, he can also be better than many women. some women are better than some men. some men are better than some women. in certain areas, especially physical areas, most men are laughably better than most women.

either everyone is equal and therefore interchangeable as diversity has no value. or people are not equal and therefore diversity is about having an equal vote at the table.

[–]MuffinPants996 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean, I was responding to his last point that most men are better than women, when a good portion of the women I know have been sexually assaulted in some way. I agree that there are differences between men and women, but that does t mean we are “better”

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 8 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

A good portion of the men you know have been sexually assaulted too. It's just not 'acceptable' to talk about.

You also seem to have completely skipped over the first part of his last point.

"in certain areas, especially physical areas, most men are laughably better than most women."

On average men have 40% more upper body muscle mass, and 33% lower body muscle mass. So yeah, when it comes to several physical tasks etc men are better. Not ha-ha better, just as a result of the differences in hormones of our bodies.

Men are also WORSE at many things than women. Look at the ability to multi-task. Women on average are significantly better at that compared to men.

We can bring out example after example and debate until the cows come home, but the simple fact is that men and women are different. This difference isn't BAD or GOOD - it just IS. It comes down to the individual level to determine if someone is a good person or a breathing pile of shit. I believe that is what u/the-capitan was originally stating.

[–]MuffinPants996 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I guess I misinterpreted difference as insult and I apologize. I agree that, in general, men are stronger than women physically.

[–]HugeMongo -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Look at the ability to multi-task

That's debatable and in my personal experience not true.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just because a few women you “know” claimed sexual assault, 1. Doesn’t mean it happened; and 2. Doesn’t mean they experience it more than men Stop being an apologist

Retarded is not a hateful word you retarded retard. You need to look up the definition of the word. When someone says "real men like curves" it's them sharing a retarded phrase that retards them as a human because it encourages being obese meaning they aren't developed properly as a human. When you bitch and complain about someone saying the word retard or retarded, you yourself are actually retarded because it shows your lack of education on the english language or a massive delay in your development where you think any use of a specific word must mean hate. Stop being retarded and join the rest of the world.

[–]Hip_Hop_Orangutan 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't even think it is the fact there is so many shitty ones...but how the shitty ones are treated and covered up for and usually let go when they do something wrong. If they held accountable and prosecuted...we wouldn't have the protests and issues we have been seeing lately.

[–]teetaps 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]akevarsky 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a police officer you have little to no idea of what skill set someone might have. Getting into a position where the perp can grab your gun is not safe.

[–]GotSomeOliveInYaSkin 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Additionally, the vast majority of police holsters are designed in such a way that there is a locking mechanism that requires you to disengage a slide-lock, sometimes two "switches" simultaneously. They are positioned in such a way that it's cumbersome and difficult to attempt removal from the front or opposite rear side.

Furthermore, high or not, it's not in the least bit difficult for a grown man to incapacitate an unarmed grown woman....without having to bash in her knees. She almost got a hold of the baton herself. I'm not claiming this is excessive force, but it damn sure was excessive effort and a terrible display of tactic.
