I worked with a pharmacist who was absolutely stunning, and madly in love with her husband who was a stay at home dad to their three kids. He provided exceptional childcare, he kept the house clean, he grocery shopped and did the bulk of the cooking (she really enjoyed cooking as a hobby, so she would cook sometimes), and he even found time to garden and preserve produce. He was well groomed and had the eldest child on time to school and all her extracurriculars every day. And when the youngest started school, he chose to return to work.

She never lost attraction or respect for him because he took pride in what he did and he did it well. He didn’t use his SAHD role to laze the bulk of the day away and accomplish nothing.

If he's too lazy to work 8 hours a day I can't imagine him taking care of the whole house, cooking all the food and raising the child. He just thinks it's a vacation.

Women lose interest in SAHD because of this mindset. That housework is feminine and can't be done by men. That it's all a woman's responsibility and he's "helping". So he sits at home doing nothing. It's the laziness, misogyny and attitude that dries us out, dude. Women love coming home to see things are actually done, and he gives a shit about her comfort, well-being and happiness. Not having to manage a manchild and delegate his own tasks to him.

If he truly wanted to be a provider, he wouldn't be whining about not being able to bag a house husband career. He wouldn't view having to work as a "penalty", in his own words. These days, most people work, single or married. I’m an unmarried woman providing for myself right now. By his logic, I should believe I have it worse than some of my coworkers, who are pregnant and taking care of toddlers while also working the same job I do. Because I have the “provider penalty” for myself, while their husbands are the breadwinner for them (while they also work and do all the childcare). Make this make sense!

Honest answer? Because men are shit leaders, in the home and in politics. Their decision-making is questionable at best, they are mentally fragile, corrupt and superficial, and as a woman, allowing them to make choices that influence women and their rights is equivalent to shooting yourself in the face.

Having money gives us a choice to select among the least dumb and socially maladjusted among a damaged male population to include in our personal lives. Having money also allows us to easily abandon ship once they get testerical and violent, like you would give up a doberman that's finally lost its mind.

Money is power, and giving men power is plain stupid, especially so much of it, and even more so when you have none yourself. The "system" was and is working great for men, but of course not for us. It didn't matter if it did, because we weren't the ones making money.

Now that we have gained a little money and independence we can finally properly express our resentment. It feels great.

The truth is, women wouldn't mind being housewives if men weren't either evil or stupid, but somehow they're fucking both!

All the privilege and does not know the first thing about how women have been struggling just for being born a woman.

Like you mentioned wage inequality. That's just the tip of the iceberg... Even as women as a whole earn lesser due to men dominating industries that are higher-paid (which they had a hand in), we live longer, need to spend money to deal with our monthly periods, makeup. So much additional time, money and mental energy because the way we look is heavily affects our opportunities in life. Taking on additional labour at home because all men are capable of doing is one job 🙄. (There are many other things but it would be the length of a novel)

I would be so happy if all I have to do is go to work, earn more and not worry about anything else because even if I'm incompetent I will still get promoted easily 🤡

I wouldn't mind a SAH spouse so long as they were fine with me being the boss. I make the money (and he gets a generous allowance/pay) and he follows the rules and budget.

I also won't be doing a majority of the chores or childcare. I work a 12-15 hour day. Help wash dishes? Fold laundry? Vaccum? Yes. Want to hire a maid or occasional babysitter to lighten the load? Sure. However, basic household maintainance is on him. He's home all day! Isn't that what men say when women complain? And with a far less generous set of conditions?

The problem is that most men (though they are in onesies and twosies) aren't very good SAH spouses. Whether they have those skills naturally is irrelevant, they aren't socialized like women are to be that level of mental-load/procedural task competent. Then, there's the problem of idle hands and devil's work. What's more appealing to an aspiring Pick Me than a man with a baby and a sob story about his corporate harpy of a wife? 😒

But seriously I don't understand this mindset. I went back to college so that I could afford to have a family. I have worked my ass off for the last 5 years so that I could buy my husband his dream house and my children a neighborhood to grow up in. And now that I've acquired that family and home, I'm plotting out the next 5 years of investments and career opportunities to build our family wealth. And this dude calls it a penalty???

I saw a great quote on here the other day - you can be anything, but you can't have everything. If I didn't want this life, I could change it in a moment. I have infinite possibilities. I could live overseas. I could hoard all that wealth building into myself. I could live alone in a dream condo overlooking the ocean. All of those things have a cost and a level of effort to acquire. But if you truly want it, that effort is a gift.

This man is not forced to care for his family. He just feels entitled to them. But with a family or without one, he will never be happy because he will view any effort to sustain his wants and desires and dreams as a form of forced labor.
