It's not debatable that men on dating apps are nearly always rejected by their actual looksmatches. With the ratios being what they are, it can't really be any other way.

I'd argue that the problem isn't the chubby men thinking that they are average. The problem is that the non-chubby non-fit men think that this makes them more attractive because at least they're skinny.

Like, yeah women are gonna go skinny > chubby when asked JUST THAT, but the difference isn't big. It's like arguing about whether blue eyes or brown eyes are better and then scoring yourself as more attractive for having blue eyes. Yeah...blue typically wins over brown when asked JUST THAT, but it's not important enough for the a big enough % of the group, to effect your dating opportunities like that.

Almost no one is gonna go: "ohhhh, she's so hot. She has blue eyes " or the opposite "you know, she has great personality, but unfortunately I'm just not that into brown eyes." (Some will offcourse, some always will).

And the difference between chubby and skinny for men, is like that. Yeah, skinny is better, but it's not gonna give you a head-start, it's not like you are toned.

And skinny guys...act like it is.

And my type is a fucking Pete Davidson. But bro... that's not just being skinny. That's the whole esthetic. That's the skinny + the tattoos + the outfits + the chill vibe, maybe even the slightly sick look.

Just being skinny, doesn't get you there. Nor am I going to be thinking that you are a better catch then the chubby guy. You are about the same.

...but they really do be acting like they're better because of it.

There is a point here. Women are not necessarily ranking men just against all men that exist now. They also consider them against men who have existed in the past, and the very ideals of male beauty.

So sidestepping who is who's 'looksmatch', one has to also remember that men are not just competing against a woman's other options for a relationship. They are also competing against the 'stay single' option. Women's attraction floors are less flexible and higher. Women are also less thirsty to just have sex, many being able to go for long stretches on occasional vibrator time. Women tend to have deeper emotional connections with platonic friends and relatives, as well as a wider social network.

So even if girls are fat, too, this tends to only alter what a woman finds arousing in men to a limited degree. So regardless of her own weight, if a woman finds none of her options sufficiently attractive to arouse her, why bother? In terms of individual decisions, no woman (or man for that matter) is concerned about gender fairness of the fate of the human race. All that matters is whether she feels a given guy would improve her life enough to make the effort in trying to connect with him worth it.

As a matter of fact, in most developed countries, you will find that men are more likely to be overweight, but when it comes to obesity or extreme obesity, women are miles ahead.

The avarage guy is chubby and the avarage gal is chubby. The distorted view comes from the fact that an avarage woman gets incomparably more attention from above avarage men on OLD, then an avg man from above avg women.

Of course, the solution to this is not sulking but to get fit.

Everyone defines 5/10 differently. To me, a 5/10 guy is someone completely inoffensive, their looks don’t stand out to me at all. I’d have never gone out with a 5/10 though.

But to address your specific point, a chubby (dadbod type, not obese) man can be a 5/10 if his face is alright.

Average is relative to the people in the current times so yes if men and women are fatter now then fat becomes the average.

At certain points in the past people would have had worse dental and personal hygiene but we can't say average people today are 10s just because they have better hygiene than in the past. The standards are different.

With that said, there are different flavors of crisco. I’m lucky enough not to be the type with wholesale chins. The way I carry my weight also makes me look older. I’m fortunate enough to have gotten the best of both sides in terms of looks from my parents. I happen to be an attractive fat guy. But, you’re right, being fat is generally unattractive. There’s cultural reasons and naturally ingrained reasons behind this. Cognitively, we are mostly aware of cultural causes. Being fat signals laziness, messiness, poor self-care, and other neckbeard stereotypes for men and women.

You can draw the line in the sand for partners with no fat people. You can’t say all fat people are ugly though, because there are fat people who are sexually successful with fit partners. Women and men.

It’s a preference. It’s a matter of preference.

I never understood why being fat was a bad thing dating wise. I have only ever dated heavier women except one girl in college. Fat girls tend to be nicer, and not as manipulative, and a lot better in bed imo. You should find someone that is right for you. Heavy or thin shouldn't matter.
