A guy came into my work today and sheepishly conceded that his wife had messed something up on a favor he was doing for her. He is a regular and it happens consistently and when I asked why he didn’t just tell her he said “you’re not married, are you?”

This is really pathetic to me. I see it all the time too, guys completing their “honey do” lists with their tail between their legs, walking on eggshells making sure they don’t screw up or dare risk upsetting their wives.

Is this what marriage is like? If so I have even less interest in it now, and all of the commonly satirized “boomer/wife bad” tropes ring true down to millennials.

The broader and more important question is, why are these men, many of them very desirable and attractive guys, happily adopting this subservient role? Are women offering something so superior to them that they feel unworthy of mutual respect and desire without begging for their approval through favors?
