Surprisingly not for boys (fgm is illegal, but still a huge problem in some parts of the world). Violence against children is an area where we really need to see some new legal reforms (including mgm).

Coming from Europe and having needed circumcision as an adult I can safely say that indeed it should only be done when necessary. When I was young I had no issues keeping it clean, never had an infection ever. I had strong reasons to remove it as an adult but I absolutely don’t think we should ever do preemptive surgery, especially on a new born thats fucked up.

Circumcision is advertised as 'preventive operation' which should be outlawed in my opinion. In the same vein you shouldn't remove anything else because it MIGHT get infected, when there is no indicators of anything abnormal from a healthy human body.

I also think it is vile that religious freedom gets ranked higher than bodily autonomy in that regard.

I got the following explanation from r/intactivism

“It’s technically already illegal, but not specified: 1.) “To wound, maim, disfigure, or endanger the life of” is to commit Aggrevated assault (Section 268) -The exceptions to this are: A.) There is a current medical problem that needs correction B.) The patient is 16 or older and wishes to have an Asthetic surgery, by their own consent C.) An act of self defense

NOTE: A parent cannot consent to harm of their child, that would be negligence

The Canadian Pediatric Society (CPS) states that circumcision is “not medically indicated”, meaning, the benefits, do not outweigh the risks enough for it to be medically ethical. They state it is a religous/cultural right, which applies to section 2, of the law (Religous/cultural rights), so circumcision only exists, in the medical field to protect baby boys from having their parents circumcise them, at home.

Section 2 has no limits, therefor, it can even exceed a babies right to protection from Aggrevated assault. Unfortunately, for Jews, that means circumcision is valid, as it is mandated, in the bible, however, every time a doctor circumcises an underaged boy, from a non-Jewish family, the doctor is chargeable up to 14 years, in prison, or suable up to $410, 000, in Ontario. There is a limited time a man can sue for childhood malpractice, the timer starts the moment, one is 18 or older and has gathered reasonable amounts of information to start a case, from then, the prosecutor has 2 years to sue or charge the defendant.

If looking to change the law, you must establish that through section 1, of the law. To do such, you must establish that what you are changing, is within alignment of the “Principles Of Fundamental Justice”, or PFJ (Lines up with human rights). I would say that the PFJ, affected by circumcision, is Autonomy, under section 7,3iii (Security Of The Person). Autonomy must be approached carefully as it can be twisted, in a lot of ways, like psychological integrity, which is the main purpose of that section, so definitions are important.

One last thing, section 21 states all involved with a crime, are chargeable, which means, parent, doctor, mohel, assistant, etc., are all chargeable.

It really shouldn't be a thing. I have a 6yo son. While we were both in hospital after birth (a private hospital in Australia) the on call paediatrician assumed hubby and I would be getting him circumcised. The response was "we didn't order one of those". It's still engrained in many medical professionals. Thankfully the paediatrician didn't push the issue.

Sometimes there are reconstructive procedures that need to be done to infants that may damage foreskin and that I can understand but circumcision just for the sake of it? No!

In America, circumcision is not illegal. It is commonly done to male children.

I got a circumcision in 2020 at the age of 39 for medical reasons. For me it was right, but for the majority of men, they won't suffer from phimosis.

I don't think it qualifies as rape...

But it is assault. One can argue whether it's sexual assault if there's no sexual intentions on the part of the perpetrators, but it is a brutal assault.

There's also possible complications. I have skin bridges where my glans fused with my shaft. It restricts erections.

You can see part of it if you check my profile but that's only the top view, 40%-ish of the circumference is fused with skin bridges.

I need to get it fixed, but to me aftercare(keeping it clean constantly to prevent infection) is intimidating.

I wish my parents had never chosen to get it done to me, it wasn't their right.

No. Circumcision isn't assault, or battery, or sexual assault, or rape. It's a medical procedure, and as such, parents are the ones who can authorize performing it on a child.

I agree that there is no compelling reason to permit circumcision (outside of the very few cases where it may be medically indicated, such as a non-retracting foreskin) and that the practice of routine circumcision should be ended. We did not circumcise either of our two kids, and I never regretted the choice not to do it to them. But it's preposterous to compare it with sexual assault or rape.

I'm torn on this. I'd rather be circumcised than not an I wouldn't dread getting it when I was older I know a couple dudes who got it when they were older. Its just my personal opinion I don't like how it looks among other things but then again how does anyone know what I want if I'm a newborn. It definitely shouldn't be performed with parental consent tho.

Punching someone in a boxing match or cutting their gums open in a dentists office is also assault yet it is legal. Yet also in countries like the UK boxing for sport is legal and boxing for sexual pleasure is illegal. The line is basically whether or not society approves of it or not. Or rather whether or not the judge/jury/etc. thinks society approves of it or not. It's basically completely arbitrary. So yes you could probably prosecute circumcision as "already a crime", but you'd need to get enough support to overrule the "precedent" first. In this case "precedent" meaning that some other judge/jury/etc. got the case first and now you need to go along with what they say for an arbitrary amount of time.
