Ultimately, without this incentive, whether you like it or not, men would have no incentive to do whatever it takes to become powerful. This includes but is not limited to screwing over others, one upping and betraying others to get better opportunities, and just in general being as selfish as possible to get what you want.

Most women do not care about the process you undertake to get power. It is for precisely this reason that there seem to be more men committing selfish acts to get what they want compared to women: because women reward them. What matters is how powerful you are, not how you get that power. You're a trust fund kid who was born rich and had to work for nothing to get money and then get famous? It doesn't matter. You're still seen as powerful. Women will still harp around you like flies. Granted, some of them may be more opportunistic when interacting with these men rather than have a genuine desire for them, but the fact remains: that man will still be surrounded by more women than another man who worked his entire life just to be at a worse social standing. How many men stick around powerful women like flies trying to get opportunities? How many men are lining up in droves to visit a club and see a female artist like Nicki Minaj and suddenly have their eyes widen with interest just because she has power? There simply is no male equivalent.

What's arguably even worse is that the type of power seems irrelevant as well. A person known to be a humanitarian with less money and less fame than even a porn director with more money and fame will still do worse with women. These are just the facts. Results matter. The process doesn't.

Ironically, the process only seems to matter to other men. Men appreciate the process behind things that require a lot of gruntwork even if society does not promote them to a higher social standing. This can include construction work, being the best painter, winning a weightlifting competition, being a great teacher, etc etc. It is not to say that women don't appreciate the process. They certainly do. Many can understand the work it takes. But they are not incentivized to learn or care about it. The head of some unknown punk rock band will do better with women, even if he has the social skills of a fly, than a guy who for example invented something that affected tens of millions of lives. Why? Because women prop up people of the former kind more than the latter. The fanbases of very successful scientists, researchers, inventors, etc. are mostly men and this isn't a coincidence.
