Artificial womb, solution to abortion?

Ignoring the fact that this is medically impossible and the embryo/fetus would immediately die once detched from the placenta and probably wouldn't survive being implanted into a fake womb let's entertain this.

How invasive do you think organ removal surgery is? Because the placenta is an internal organ that grows with pregnancy and attaches to another interal organ (the uterine wall) and the fetus can not be removed without it due to it being a life support system. Do you think slicing a womans abdomen open in a medically dangerous surgery where a blood heavy interal organ must be removed intact while somehow preserving the fetus and the uterus around it is going to be easy peasy?

A woman can not simply hand a embryo over to a clinic. This will require a MEDICAL PROCEDURE that is likley far more invasive than an abortion. (90 percent are done with pills causing the body to have a "natural" miscacarriage process which requires very little medical intervention in most cases).

So now you are still forcing a woman to undergo a medical procedure agianst her will and blocking her medical choice in which procedure she gets to end her pregnancy. She can either remain pregnant or risk death by having an interal organ that connects directly with her blood supply removed in a probably hours long surgery with a 12 week healing time that comes with major risk of death or severe complications. Like a C Section. She has a heavy risk of hemorrhaging or disability after. You think women are going to choose that? Or its going to be an attractive option?

Say science finds some way to detach the embryo from the placenta that doesn't kill it and it can be extracted almost like an egg for egg donation. That still requires a massive needle to be inserted into the vagia, thru the cervix, and into the uterus to collect the microscopic embryo. Then what happens to the placenta? It needs to come out. It can't be left in there or it will kill her as it rots. So she still needs yet another invasive medical procedure after this extractions.

This is absolutely stupid as an idea. Not only will the fetus/embryo not survive this idea because it immediately starts dying the moment it is detached bit the risks on a woman's body be a thousand times more severe than a regular abortion. No one should be forcing women into medical risks without thier consent or taking away less invasive and safer options in favor of options that come with massive risks to thier health.

I think being able to transfer the foetus fr9m the mother to the artificial womb without killing it will be a lot further away than being able to grow one in it.

It's not just women not wanting to have children that's the crux of the abortion issue so, no... it wouldnt be a solution. We still need access to abortions because shocked pikachu it's fucking healthcare. Miscarriages, still borns, fetal anomalies not conducive to life. Etc etc etc.

Abortion is part of basic reproductive healthcare for women. It’s not a ‘problem’ that requires a solution.

Long story short, the claim is that women want abortions to avoid pregnancy, but the reality is that many women want abortions to avoid parenthood. That's all well and good, except that these same women would never support allowing men to have financial abortions.

There are a lot of logistical factors that would make this unlikely. There are over .5 million abortions in the US every year, so artificial womb technology would need to be very cheap. The these children would need homes, and if no homes could be found would need to be raised by that state. Also not cheap, and not a good environment for raising pro-social citizens.

But in order to have an artificial womb one needs to extract and embryo without killing it. If we could find a woman to then freeze the embryo, like we do with very early embryos (5 days old), that would be less costly, and many women would likely go back and re-insert their embryos later when they are more ready to be pregnant, tho most would probably end up in a permanent no-man’s land.

Regardless, not really a relevant topic to PPD

If technology allowed for a pregnancy to be transferred, which is a large step beyond artificial wombs and we don't even have those yet, they could be one option. I don't think we should force people to use them to create babies just for the sake of it though.

Umm i don't think it would work. With artificial wombs being so common there would be enough for every unwanted pregnancy, I guess every couple interested in having a baby from artificial womb would pay to carry their own that way, or if they don't produce gametes then they would at least choose an educated, nice, tall donor instead of lining up for some random unwanted fetus with possible addiction, low iq and other issues.

Who would pay for this? If the government to battle low birth rates, then I guess some dystopian public care state babies ready to be soldiers or whatever would happen. Hell, even then it would make more sense just to abort unwanted ones and create this 'population booster' from some better quality genes. // not saying its great, just what I would expect to happen

We would have to live in a very very heavily pro life religious regime for it to make sense as a general policy. I think more common use case would be wealthier people moving the foetus to the machine quite early on to prevent body damage due to pregnancy and birth.

I don't exactly care about abortions as much as I care about fertility rates. You cannot sustain the economy when fertility rates are low, and older generation is collectively reliant on younger one. And when you have this insane deficit of money, you run out of everything really quickly. Plus, people of younger generations are not to blame for their aunts deciding that they preferred childless lifestyle. But conservation law is a bitch.

Once we crack creating artificial eggs, women can abort all they like. The possibilities are way cooler than anyone can imagine. Unlimited perspectives for screening is just one of them. I'm perfectly fine with creating like 32 identical twin fetuses from every egg and eliminating all but two most viable. Thus, I don't care what happens with aborted fetuses/blastocysts. Roughly half of them die naturally within the first couple months anyway.

Personally i worry about a child being born in a world, where he never had a connection to its biological mother during pregnancy.

Estimated three percent of babies in UK are born with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, and roughly 6 thousand babies are born with addiction to drugs (neonatal abstinence syndrome). Pardon my Mongolian, but "a connection" my ass. "Sacred feminine magick" is a myth.

It's not a solution if the answer is to surgically remove an implanted egg from the body of an already pregnant woman and risk her life in the process.
