See this stuff bugs me. This mom (which I'm gathering its mom since they talk about dad in third person) is so wracked with pain and anguish over putting her son through a procedure that she is praying over it......a procedure that by her reasoning isn't evenbs necessity.

Also for her to say that hurts her more than it hurts him? Well again if its so painful why do it? Im sure if there was a medical necessity she would have mentioned it so take there isn't.

So why isbshe having it done?

The problem is that a circumcised penis has become what a penis is "supposed to look like" in American culture. The percentage of newborns being circumcised is dropping down towards 50%, so clearly this is changing, but it could and should be dropping faster.

And really, this would be a great issue for groups interested in promoting men's issues to actually pursue. An effectively run awareness campaign could actually have a measurable affect here. You could buy ad space on popular websites for pregnant women, maybe run some PSAs, talk some OB/GYNs into letting you put pamphlets about the issue in their waiting rooms.

So why isn't it being done yet? There are plenty of men's rights groups out there, and if I could think of this, so could they. So why haven't they?

Infections related to the foreskin still being there is a myth, but you can't blame the ignorant for being ignorant. However, I don't get the "so he can get a girlfriend one day". Are we at the state we need to mutilate ourselves to be attractive to the opposite gender? I hope I am wrong and no man has ever been turned down (I am not talking about one night stands) by a woman simply because he still had skin on the tip (Simply because he doesn't have skin, I am not talking about the hygiene problems that can be related to it).

Medically not needed, can cause more harm than good eg. tip of penis can dry out and crack, increased risk of phimosis, not any cleaner than non circumcised and will eventually have less sensitivity... yes some will argue there are benefits but i for one am certainly against it(source: Im a nurse... seen plenty of messed up penis)

It bugs me that the infant gets no say in it what so ever, it is a medical procedure, when on an infant it is cruelty often only local or topical anaesthetic is applied.

This mother is so caught up on tradition, it hurts to read that sort of stuff, yes it is a personal choice (one that the baby has no say in) and secondly wtf? who says that there kid will get a girl because he is circumcised thats just fucked.

I have no idea why this is such a big issue. It's an elective surgery to remove part of an infants penis. That fact should be enough for most parents to not do it. I got so much shit when I decided to not get my son circumcised, too. At least my husband agreed with me 100%. Probably because he's not American.

I'm probably in the minority here but I'm glad circumcision is widely accepted, mostly for selfish reasons. My parents decided not to get me circumcised when I was a baby, but I developed really nasty phimosis, which inhibited me from peeing properly and it was super painful. I had to get an emergency circumcision when I was 5 years old, which was pretty traumatic but for my sexual life it's all I've known. So if it weren't for society's acceptance of circumcised males I would probably be seen as a freak.

My case is an extreme one and I believe that unless it is for health reasons, the male in question should be free to choose later on in life.
