The research showed that women who defied gender norms by being more assertive and dominant at work were more likely to be targeted by their female counterparts, compared to women who exhibited fewer of those traits.

But remember, it's men who create and enforce all these social norms so literally everything is to blame on toxic masculinity. Right?

[–][deleted] 290 points291 points292 points 8 years ago (38 children) | Copy Link

Most people who use the phrase toxic masculinity can't seem to give positive examples of masculinity if asked.

[–]CAMYtheCOCONUT 43 points44 points45 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Every brave and heroic act by men was a case of positive masculinity, and they greatly outweigh the negatives in my opinion. Think of the world as a whole, it has progressed greatly over time which means our good deeds outmatch the bad. It's just that we disproportionately view positive things as much less impactful than negative things. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negativity_bias?wprov=sfla1

[–]WikiTextBot 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Negativity bias

The negativity bias, also known as the negativity effect, refers to the notion that, even when of equal intensity, things of a more negative nature (e.g. unpleasant thoughts, emotions, or social interactions; harmful/traumatic events) have a greater effect on one's psychological state and processes than do neutral or positive things. In other words, something very positive will generally have less of an impact on a person's behavior and cognition than something equally emotional but negative. The negativity bias has been investigated within many different domains, including the formation of impressions and general evaluations; attention, learning, and memory; and decision-making and risk considerations.

I have pointed this out to people so many times it's frustrating. Focus on the positive, sure it's easier said than done, but you should be aware of our tendency to inflate the negative and ignore the positive. That's very unhealthy behavior.

[–]Lumby 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I love asking friends for examples of positive masculinity whenever the topic of 'toxic masculinity' comes up. Most of them blank and have clearly never considered how they stereotype a whole gender as toxic without acknowledging any positive traits.

[–]NibblyPig 25 points26 points27 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It is dumb, because they might say like, a man's aggressive behaviour is toxic, and yet when there's a spider in the bathroom or a lion in the village, or an enemy at the gates, all this so-called 'toxic' traits are what help people. So the trait isn't toxic, just people's perception of it.

That and every toxic trait men have is exactly what feminism is trying to give to women. Stand up for yourselves ladies, fight back! Be dominant! Be the super ambitious CEO career woman that Gets Things Done! You can do anything men can do, you can be a firefighter, you can be in the army, you can be big and strong! You can tackle your own problems without help. You can do all these things! And men, if you do those things, well then it's toxic!

[–]Bloody_Rekt_Tim 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's almost like women who defy gender norms are treated as outcasts by the moderate members of their wider social circles. It's no different than when dudes act way to girly & get cast aside by their more masculine counterparts. Most people don't like overly aggressive women, nor do they like overly-sensitive men. Feminism is creating a shit ton of overly-aggressive women with horrible attitudes, and society is sending a message: tone it the fuck down.

Implication that most of the genuine and inspiring people out there are men, not women?

I have to ask, how is this constructive in any way?

[–]The_Best_01 -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I was being kinda snarky, saying the opposite of what the other guy said. It sounded like he was saying most of the genuine and inspiring people he met are actually women because "some" just means "a few".

I know it's subjective, but what do you think the ratio is, realistically? Is it about half-and-half? Or does the fact men are generally more honest have something to do with it?

[–]cknight18 -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I don't know what the ratio is, I doubt there's any data on it. You'd have to have some objective way to measure it. I'm sure that since men and women differ in their personalities, there might be some ways men generally are more "genuine and inspiring," and some ways women tend to be. Do I care? Not really.

You may deny it, but I think your initial comment comes from resentment of women. It's not incredibly uncommon on this sub; I think it's an understandable consequence of a lot of the shitty things feminism has done. But by some chance if you actually recognize that you might have some resentment towards women, I'd encourage you to think on it and try to change the way you approach the issue.

[–]The_Best_01 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I really don't have any resentment towards women, just feminism. I realize there's a difference.

You said there needs to be an objective way to measure it, but then go on to say men and women are both genuine and inspiring in different ways. That's literally a subjective perspective.

If I could provide an example from experience though, I've noticed men are generally more honest, have more integrity, and even have more empathy, where a few decades ago, one might expect women to be more empathic.

I'd be interested in seeing any data on this though, but any studies are bound to be biased one way or another depending on who's conducting them.

[–]cknight18 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You said there needs to be an objective way to measure it, but then go on to say men and women are both genuine and inspiring in different ways. That's literally a subjective perspective.

There would have to be, but like I said I don't really have any interest in measuring it. Even if we could measure it, which I don't see how you'd do it, I don't really see the point.

If I could provide an example from experience though, I've noticed men are generally more honest, have more integrity, and even have more empathy, where a few decades ago, one might expect women to be more empathic.

Anecdotal experience doesn't count for much, especially here. This holds about as much water as when feminists say "men interrupt women more than the opposite!" So, really not much at all.

[–]The_Best_01 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even if we could measure it, which I don't see how you'd do it, I don't really see the point.

It would help to prove or disprove each gender's assumptions about the other. And like I said, it would be quite interesting.

This holds about as much water as when feminists say "men interrupt women more than the opposite!"

I try not to exaggerate things for my own agenda though. Like I said, just something I've noticed in dealing with my fair share of both genders. I bet women would say the same thing about them though, so you're kind of right at least.

And traditionally masculine positive traits are claimed as nongenderspecific, or if not then it's because of culturual reasons that all need to change also.

[–]PinguCannotLose18 points 8 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

I love the many perks of being a woman but damn our FEMININITY can be so toxic. Women treat each other worse in most settings (work, school, social circles) than men treat women or women treat men (*in western society of course)

[–]Choice77777 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Taking 50% of hundreds of millions without working for it isn't just a "perk".

[–]morerokk 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you ask them for positive examples, you won't get any. If you list any, they backpedal and say "but those are just generally good human traits to have! They're not exclusive to men!", etc.

Yet they have no problem gendering negative examples and blaming those on "toxic masculinity".

[–]shit-zen-giggles 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a good point, I'll use that in future discussions. Thanks!

[–]killcat 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup, tried to get someone to give some positive examples of masculinity, nope, they just trotted out MORE "toxic masculinity".

[–]ManhattanT5 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never had a problem with the phrase or concept of toxic masculinity, I just always thought that it was unfair that "toxic femininity" isn't defined. What do you suppose toxic femininity would be?

Grudge holding? Discrimination against fellow females? Passive aggressive attacks aimed at wounding someone socially or emotionally? Utilizing groups as a weapon against an individual?

If we're going to generalize and label the negative behaviors of one sex, we should do the other.

Didnt we read about a few businesses that women started and hired only women that were completely dysfunctional and disbanded because of in-fighting and cattiness?

[–]HotDealsInTexas 37 points38 points39 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The thing is, there's a bit of a selection bias effect. Someone who founds a female-only business, or who decides to specifically apply for a female-only business, because "men are such pigs am I right?" is likely to be a toxic human being in other ways as well.

[–]peppaz 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's not a selection bias, that's just logic playing itself out.

There’s lots of women run businesses that do well, so a story about “a few businesses” that failed here sounds like cherry picking to make a point.

EDIT - Some data:
http://www.deartechpeople.com/

[–]majortom22 26 points27 points28 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think the added bit "and hired only women" is pertinent, here.

Yeah, lots of women-run businesses. The CEO, say. That's one thing. But their employees aren't all women.

The point he's making is that when it's all women -surely anomalies and a minority just by statistical nature- as has been explicitly done by some, it hasn't worked well.

The reason it seems to be a point to be made is the prevalence of this notion that "if women just ran X"....it'd all be just so great.

Edit/Addendum: How many businesses, what kind, etc I am not sure -I haven't reviewed the data. I'm simply addressing the mechanics here.

[+]tlalexander -14 points-13 points-12 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]ShelSilverstain 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I've done some light googling, but I can only find negative stories about female only companies. Do you know of some positive reports I can read?

[+]tlalexander -10 points-9 points-8 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Im not sure about female -only- companies, but there’s some companies with predominantly female employees or predominantly female leadership mentioned here:

http://www.deartechpeople.com/

Also for what it’s worth I worked at an engineering company with 25 men and 2 women and it was a pretty toxic place for me. One of the sub teams had a pretty aggressive way of handling things as did the management, and meetings became these pretty serious emotional environments that felt pretty uncomfortable for me. I remember one time the boss made one of the women cry with how much he was pushing her, and he didn’t stop. I now work at a bigger company with real management and it’s way more comfortable. I’m super happy with my masculinity and I go camping alone and enjoy it, and cry and don’t feel insecure about it, but that environment was rough.

I worry that when people on here hear about some bad business with only women they think it’s women at fault, but really there’s good businesses with only women and bad businesses with only women and the fact that it was women might change the way it’s good or bad but it’s not what causes the problems.

[–]psidekick 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would think it isn’t the women that cause the issue, but the ONLY part of it. Companies with ONLY men happen in some fields, but naturally as opposed to forced. If it isn’t forced, there isn’t really a problem with it. If you had a school that required you to be male to start teaching, that probably wouldn’t work well either, because you limit yourself to half (or less) of the normal pool you would be hiring from, lessening the quality of workers.

As en example, let’s say the pool you would normally hire from for your business is 75 men and 25 women, and we’ll say the quality of workers is the same between the top 25th of each gender. If you want the best workers, you’d get 1 woman for every 3 men naturally, and the quality of workers would go down after the first 4 workers hired.

But, let’s say you only hire women. Now, you get 1 woman, and the quality of your next worker is lower. If you hire 5 employees, 4 of them will be lower quality, compared to only 1 in the first scenario.

Even in a scenario where the pool of workers is 75 females to 25 males, hiring only females is a bad idea because then you’ll have 2 lower quality workers vs. only the 1.

TLDR: If you hire workers based upon gender (or anything else that shouldn’t make a difference) you will get worse workers.

everybody looks at Google

[–]Dembara 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That was not what his comment was about. A woman started a buisness dedicated to being women only in a hyper-competative industry and the women just would not get work done and were too busy competing with each other.

Women run businesses can do well. There are plenty of smart capable women. But some women tend to be more competitive with each other in some environments in a way that is harmful to productivity.

/u/peppaz, I doubt anyone here would say women and men cannot exist just fine together...

[–]peppaz -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I literally never said they can't. My boss is a woman and she is wonderful. I said when women tried to hire only other women and discriminate against men, it did not work out- because of the reasons found in this study. I don't know where you or the other commenter came up with that strawman argument.

[–]Dembara 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was replying to you saying: "this whole sub is cherry picked stories. Most men and women exist fine together." Implying that this sub disagrees with the latter sentiment.

[–]subthrowaway321 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do I need to explain why an anecdote doesn't carry the same amount of validity as actual government statistics? When women run businesses, they don't do as well. When corporations have lots of women on their boards, profits shrink. Why? I don't know. But, that's a mathematical/statistical fact. Women just have different interests. Working eighty hours a week isn't something they do as much as men. The studies have been done, no need to use anecdotes.

As a woman, this is my greatest problem in the workplace. I actually deliberately look for workplaces that are predominantly men and have gone into an industry where I am often the only female.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But then elsewhere on reddit it would seem you must be constantly sexually harassed by all these men. I was downvoted to hell for pointing out on an unrelated sub that I've never worked in a place where that kind of behavior was rampant by men, or even occurring on any noticeable level.

[–][deleted] 31 points32 points33 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Toxic femininity is apparently the real problem women face.

[–]Skiddywinks 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Come on, be more imaginative.

"But the culture and environment these women are raised in is constructed by men, therefore it is not the fault of women that they behave this way"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You better believe that's their argument.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not only that, but this is entirely generational. Boomer women got to where they were by having bigger balls then the men around them. They HATE the whiny little millennial who need "mentors" and handholding. The older female attitude is "fuck you I did it when women were ACTIVELY discriminated against."

Its the difference between the 2 lady cars in Cars 3: the "main character" had a shot at racing and chickened out because she was "scared." She needs a man to give up his place. The old lady car pretended to be a boy so she could race back when lady cars were banned.

Whose the strong independent woman?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds more like an individual ego problem. Blame human nature for not bending to our will.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also remember that everything bad women do is also because of men for having done that in the past.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ding ding ding. We have a WINNER! That's literally the idiocy feminists are already arguing trying to deflect.

[–]Windex007 45 points46 points47 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Super interesting leap:

women who defied gender norms by being more assertive and dominant

Got more incivility

...when men acted assertive and warm — in general, not considered the norm...

Got more civility

...men actually get a social credit for partially deviating from their gender stereotypes, a benefit that women are not afforded...

I'm interested if this is just bad journalism, or if the paper actually suggests that its the deviation from "norms", rather than actual behaviour that is the best justification for the change of civility. I have a hard time believing that "maybe being 'warm' is preferable to being 'dominant' if the goal is having civil interactions" isn't explored in the paper, but it's no stretch that the shitshow that is journalists trying to write about science took their own uneducated stab at interpereting the results.

It would be world of drawn out intrigue, permanently shifting alliances, assassinations and vendetta. Never could there be peace, unity. The ideal of forgiving each others wrongdoing would wane, openness and direct, honest conversation fading into memories of the distant past.

Sorry, are you saying we have "peace, unity" and "forgiving each others wrongdoing"'s? Can you give me an example, because I couldn't disagree more.

Example: the middle east, a place where women couldn't be further from power. They hate each other, and have for many many generations and will for many many more.

[–]Newgame95 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just having a little fun here, exaggerating.

[–]majortom22 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think this warrant/example seems to be an instance of looking at it backwards. I don't know that you can extrapolate from the middle east something like that. ME is too much an anomaly with a strong 3rd factor influencing the data (Islam). The region hates each other because of Islam. They oppress women because of Islam

Islam.

Other male-heavy entities do quite well and don't hate each other or oppress women. You know. Without ideology.

[–]cO-necaremus 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i believe the main problem in the middle east has to do with the abrahamic cult as a whole, not only a single sub-group, like you are trying to picture.

it's abrahamic cult (jews) against abrahamic cult (muslims) down there. I know the USofA has a history of always aligning with one sub-group of the abrahamic cult (jews) and helps this one side the best they can.

Most of the time "Anti-Islamism" is jewish propaganda; they want the middle east for themselves. "Antisemitism" comes from a lot of corners. I, personally, do not like any of the abrahamic cults (Judaism, Christianity, Islam - ordered by age - are the three biggest). I don't even understand why they are fighting each other. They are all praying to the same "god" and have the same underlying philosophy. The only thing they cannot agree on: which prophet was the most hip one. Sure that is enough reason for several(!) wars. sigh.

Something like the United Nations or NATO definitely would not exist. The situation at the end of WWII where Germany and Japan instantly became allies with the nations they were formerly at war with wouldn't happen.

Okay, I'm probably gender stereotyping here but you get my point.

In Europe, women, the queens, started more wars than the kings. So, that whole, if we had women dominating politics, is nothing more than assumptions from people who are already biased. There have been studies that show queens went to war, and were willing to go to war more so than the kings.

This story still manages to throw men under the bus.

[–]MaggieNoodle 28 points29 points30 points 8 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

Well not exactly. The study found that men had more positive reactions when breaking from social norms while women had more negative reactions when doing the same thing.

[–][deleted] 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

"The researchers also found that when men acted assertive and warm — in general, not considered the norm for male behavior — they reported lower incivility from their male counterparts. I agree that feminism is stereotypical female nagging etc., as it is what huMAN called "female amplification".

But men's rights does not seem stereotypically manly to me at all. I think it just applied male logic to feminist ideas of equality.

[–]Tymalic 26 points27 points28 points 8 years ago (32 children) | Copy Link

It's about perspective. I've run into some particularly vile people here. The fringe bits of each movment take on the bits of more fringe individuals. Both are characterized by their aggression and lack of empathy.

[–]mansausage 51 points52 points53 points 8 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

I rarely see aggression, especially not on the male side. Bitterness I see sometimes, though. Which is no wonder, given what some people went through.

I also understand why many men don't feel like having any more than very basic minimum-empathy for women anymore. Because I believe it is objectively true that women have next to none for men in general either.

[–]Tymalic 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Well I mean it's an anecdotal observation in my part but I have ran into a few violent and hateful people on this sub. Not many. I do find it harder to communicate with feminists though. Maybe it's because I'm male. Or perhaps it's the facts.

[–]mansausage 33 points34 points35 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I can't communicate with feminists on Reddit anymore, because their sub bans anyone saying anything even remotely provocative or outside their narrative.

I responded to some replies I had gotten on there (before getting banned) via PM, and it turns out even their own subscribers don't like how quickly they ban people.

It's also facts, and the phenomenon that women never learned to put themselves in men's perspective. Because this also doesn't come naturally for them, they simply can't grasp what it is actually like to be a man. If you try and tell them, they react as if you are saying the moon was made out of cheese. That's how alien this is to them.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its the facts. Watched some videos where feminists were confronted with facts. Their beliefs are not properly founded, its fuzzy logic (like the earnings gap) and they couldn't properly define what they were all about. The feminist devolves into screaming, hitting and sometimes just crying.

[–]Tymalic 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Oh you brought up the empathy thing! I think men are wired to have empathy by our culture as we're providers. That being said I've met plenty of selfish people who are both genders. For some reason if I become friends with a person I find that dudes are way more tantalize and easier to communicate with where as women feels as if I'm bothering them unless I'm offering them something.

[–]mansausage 27 points28 points29 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, because women are wired to maximize utility value for themselves and their (potential future) children's sake. Which is why feminists say things like "we still have a long way to go". There is no enough, there never will be. As long as there potentially is anything more that could possibly be provided to them, women will want it. If there is nothing more, men better come up with something more for them.

[–]Tymalic 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There is a maternal drive for provision. It's interesting seeing that interact with the shedding of traditional gender roles. I mean it could still be an artifact from gender roles? I'm not sure if there has been a powerful enough biological emparative. Maybe it could be a toxic feminity. Its funny that both sexes have this symbiotic relationship we've just now decided to disagree with. Maybe that's what this is. Maybe culture is trying to over ride nature?

[–]mansausage 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women got rid of their responsibilities, they have been messing with the symbiotic relationship for decades, because they thought it would pay off for them. But they cannot escape their biological nature.

Now it might all blow up in their faces, because men actually have a chance to satisfy their needs without actual women. Sex dolls may still be ridiculous, but just wait what we can do once we figured out how to tap our brains and experience anything as if it was real...

After slogans like "we need men like fish need a bicycle" they deserve what is only starting to happen now.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Because I believe it is objectively true that women have next to none for men in general either.

That's depressing. Is that based on how people treat each other online/media stuff, or observations of behavior? I see a lot more empathy in personal interactions; devices dehumanize people.

[–]mansausage 24 points25 points26 points 8 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

You see it everywhere and every day.

When women tell other women about a new boyfriend, they will ask what he does, for example.

If you have a relationship, ask your woman why she loves you. Now ignore that what she says makes you feel good, and realize that you are probably being described much like a manager would describe his most productive employee.

Last century women in England would use white feathers to shame men who did not want to go to war to die for them. Today they have Titanic as substitute, because women get off on the idea of men (potentially) dying for them. By male standards, this is actually quite perverse, but that's how women are.

Think of your favorite love songs. Are those from women? I didn't think so.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

I dunno man. I think you have some pretty serious stuff to work through. Not sure who hurt you or what, but that's just not been my experience in life. I have a loving wife who helps me every bit as much as I help her. My mother was awesome and friendly and nurturing. I've had lots of great relationships with women, both romantic and platonic, who were every bit as empathetic (and generally MORE empathetic) than the men I've known.

Sorry your life is this way or seems this way. I hope you meet some good women and don't feel like this forever.

[–]mansausage 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

I'm doing just fine and I have no problem with women. I just have no interest in long term relationships anymore.

My problem now is that I would find it inappropriate to start questioning you about what it is your wife supposedly does for you etc...

It's probably a matter of personality, too. I am an INTP. If you google that, you will find things like "truth" and "independence" and "logic" being extremely important.

I wish you the best of luck with your marriage. You will need it, because legally... ah, never mind.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I wish you the best of luck with your marriage. You will need it, because legally... ah, never mind.

I'm happy you're doing fine, but why is it MRA folks always have to tell me my relationship is failing/no good? The last one explained that because I wasn't alpha enough, my wife was most certainly cheating on me and would leave soon.

I just don't get it. I also value truth, logic, and independence highly, as does my wife. That's why we work. I can truthfully say "Hey, I need a day to just be introverted and not be around people," and she respects that. It's possible to have independence within a relationship. Codependent relationships are terrible IMO.

Anyhow, have a nice day and glad you're fine. Just please stop being MRA dude #5,732 to explain that anyone in a relationship must be doomed to failure. I'm starting to feel like all these guys are just projecting because their relationships fail.

It has been my experience that I am somewhat more likely to experience (as a man) poor behavior from a female than a male in the workplace. This behavior consistently happens more often and is of greater intensity when it comes from a woman. At my current place of employment a specific group of women many of us refer to as the "sisterhood" or the "mafia" has exercised exceptional influence in decisions about promotion to higher ranks (I'm in a law enforcement organization), continued employment beyond required retirement limits and the creation of new jobs with highly desirable pay and/or scheduling for it's members. The double standard for behavior in my organization is sickening and dangerous.

[–]MadeInBeirut13 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Every place ive ever worked that had a 50/50 split in staffing, it was a daily occurrence where the women would have a "situation" with each other, and management would have to constantly mediate. When we looked at statistics of certain branches in our companies that had a more 80/20 split, with men being the majority of the staff, they would always excell in every metric whether it was sales numbers or retention.

When an office or sales setting has a majority in female upper management, there would be noticeable retention problems in both male and femalw employees, plus a very noticeable HR presence in internal investigations. I asked an HR rep at Verizon about this when I worked there (female HR rep) and her blunt response was "woman are the worst"

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm a woman and my job is at a marketing firm, with a lot of Israeli and American clients.

Occasionally I have to take a look at individual franchise centers and figure out why their advertising or tactics have suddenly stopped working in that area. 8/10 it's always that the head bitch from their female HR department or region sales manager has fired or harassed to quit the best female saleswoman in that store or team. And when we ring up the stores themselves or go talk to them, the entire staff loved that employee and the reason they were fired is always some absolute bullshit.

Female HR and managers are the absolute bane of the workplace when it comes to productive and competent female employees under them.

Every night my wife comes home, I have to listen to the daily play by play of who did what shitty thing to who and it's just the most petty, spiteful bullshit I've ever heard. My last job was in an office of 100+ women all together in a call center and it was like being back in goddamn junior high the way those catty bitches fought with each other and gossiped and backstabbed. The CEO had to call the entire company to a meeting and scold them like little kids because of the amount of childish bullshit that went on and the crazy rumors they kept starting about everyone in the office. "Paired with estimates that incivility can cost organizations an estimated $14,000 per employee, this presents a problem for organizations." How exactly does this cost organizations that much money per person?

[–]Thormoran 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People experiencing incivility are more likely to leave the organization. I would assume that's part of the average cost. Costs to train new employees are very high. Then they probably add in the loss of productivity from the experience.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Which is why most companies just don't do it anymore lol

[–]ForumCube3 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I’m very interested in learning how they came to this figure, too. This study assumes incivility can only have a negative impact on a company.

Depending on the nature of the work, incivility can be positive for some organizations. In the appropriate office culture, incivility can be used to draw out higher productivity from employees.

[–]Isellmacs 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Did you mean competitiveness? I'm not sure what you're envisioning for incivility directly inducing higher productivity.

[–]foot_kisser 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The researchers also found that when men acted assertive and warm — in general, not considered the norm for male behavior — they reported lower incivility from their male counterparts. This suggests men actually get a social credit for partially deviating from their gender stereotypes, a benefit that women are not afforded.

My guess would be simpler. Instead of some complex interactions with social credit and partial deviations from gender stereotypes, I'd suggest that men respond in kind to other men being warm by being warm themselves.

I mean, if someone's being nice to you, why would your reaction be "that jerk, how dare he be nice to me"?

[–]Isellmacs 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Often enough a man who encounters warmth from another man will receive it as a genuine kindness, and reciprocate. I think a big difference with women is they receive warmth from a man as either something they are entitled to via female privilege, or that the man is hitting on/sexually harressing her, and deserves or requires a cold response to put him in his place.

The advantage of being the choosing gender is all the men come to you, while the disadvantage of being the choosing gender is that all the men come on to you.

Hello and welcome to /r/MensRights. If you are not a subscriber, please take a moment to understand what you are seeing.

This subreddit is about the issues faced by men in our society.

We welcome healthy debate and you won't be banned merely for disagreement. It is common here to reject feminist ideology, but that doesn't mean we hate women or oppose equal rights. Rather, we seek to expand those equal rights to include men.

These are some of the best discussions we've had. There is also a documentary made by a feminist who investigated our movement. If you want to know more about the issues we are concerned with, try these books: The War Against Boys by Christina Hoff Sommers or The Myth of Male Power by Warren Farrell.

Thank you for being open minded.

im retired medicine and EVERY male nurse I worked with would say the same thing. They would also say that the male nurses got much more difficult patients / assignments and if they complained, the hive of women would turn against them, eat them alive, then go back to devouring each other. They only liked the male nurses when they could exploit them but when they stood up for themselves, they IMMEDIATELY stopped what they were doing to outcast him.

Sam in my job at sales. There are other issues that add to it. To be successful in my line of work, you need to be at the business/company. Most of us guys who are successful, work 50-60 hours a week. It's auto sales if you are wondering. Anyways, there isn't a single female "closer" and we are the biggest auto group in the state. I have worked at three major dealerships, never have I seen a female in the top five, or really even ten sales reps. They work forty hours, hit their quota, and pretty much slack off the rest of the time. Then, wonder why they aren't management or finance officers when we have guys often working double the hours, and tripling the females numbers. Most of them are married and the husband is the breadwinner. So, the drive to provide for their family doesn't exist, because the husband is already doing it. It is basically just extra income to them. Not, a necessity for their families to eat and have a roof over their heads. I've seen female sales reps get into it with female customers more than I can count. Needless to say, they don't get those sales. The mentality is just so different where I'm at between the men and women. There are only two females out of about twenty of us now. They don't really like the high stress, long hour jobs. Most give up before ever really even trying.

This is highly because of this: https://web.stanford.edu/~niederle/NV.AnnualReview.Print.pdf

This paper is from Stanford and studies how gender affects competitive nature among men and women.

Even women don't like to be in all women teams. They also prefer male managers.

But yeah, males fault.

Every woman I've ever dated has said this. Yes, there are asshole dudes at work who make life very difficult, but 90% of complaints they have about co-workers are about other women.

There are some real cruel and douche bag dudes out there, but let me tell you, in high school, I'd rather have a dude punch me in the stomach or the face than be a chick and have my best friend going around spreading rumours about me gang-banging 10 dudes, fucking my uncle, teacher, or best friends bf, or that I fucked myself with a hog dog, have an STD and spread peanut butter on my cooch and let my dog lick it up. ALL of those are rumours (some ubran legends) that I have heard GIRLS in high school spread about girls who were their friends.

That is some twisted shit.

And in the professional world it just gets worse and more vindictive because they actually use believable shit.

I don't know hardly any lifetime "girl friend's". They always seem to stab each other in the back if they spend to much time together. Almost every man i know has at least one very long term bro.

this research has been established for years. Most pro-women and anti-male researchers had hoped these were anomalies, but apparently you cannot form too many women only groups without the friction. Maybe these groups need more diversity

I fucking believe it! I work in a vet clinic primarily staffed by women and the sheer cattiness is unreal. They can be so rude to each other (and to me, am also woman) over practically nothing. I'm not interested in workplace drama, so I try to kill 'em with kindness, but it's definitely made me reevaluate my momentum in working in the veterinary field, considering that a large proportion of vet techs seem to be female.

Note how /r/feminism is of course again saying it's because of misogyny

[–]Dembara 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

While interesting, I do not think this is directly men's rights.

[–]Smacktardius 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is related to mens rights as society in general turns a blind eye to this female douchebaggery and simply blames men for this kind of behavior at the workplace.

[–]MisPlacedNeuroBlue 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Old news - i learned that in junior high. Nobody was meaner; more cruel to each other; more of a back stabbing rumor mongering traitor, than one girl was to another girl - often after having just smiled to one another and walking away from each other.

I'm shocked! (I'm not at all)

[–]sumfacilispuella 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I feel like this is hard to discuss as a woman, because when you point out that you would rather work with men and that some women tend to be catty as fuck, people assume you are the bitchy lady who cant get along with women or that you have internalized misogyny. No. Some people just want to do their work and then go the fuck home.

[–]Now2Forever 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

This is no surprise. The worst domestic violence occurs in a household with two lesbians.

[–]Dembara 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Makes sense. You expect there to be a lot of in-group competition in the workplace.

Is it worse than how men treat men?

[–]CALAMITYFOX 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wonder what it's like on the flipside, whether men treat each other worse than the rest.

My GF is in such divide with her roommates, because they take their complaints to the landlord. I fucked back at my place, had my roommate come knock at my door let me know my mistake and i let him know that im gonna fix that the next day. He thanked me went back about his business, true to my word i fix the issue. Thats that. but she gets some petty sneaky biz from the two people who arent doing any cleaning, or supply any communal necessities, and have made it their complete space. And gets an email from her landlord.

"Women who aren't progressive liberal feminists are bad for business, and men suck too."... I wonder, does this author have a gender studies degree or a social justice degree?

Is anyone shocked? Women hate each other for the most part. I’ve seen women throw glass bottles at each other just because they walked by them with attitude. It’s ridiculous.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is true. I used to be a cook and worked with mostly women. I got along fine with nearly all of the women but I noticed that the women often didn't like each other and were always talking bad about each other behind their backs. Just like high school all over again.

[–]EvidencePlz 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Come to my workplace and see it for yourself. It happens every day, all the time. Not a single day goes by when a woman didn't cry because of the bullshit she had to put up with because of another woman's evil douchbaggery.

[–]warcroft 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. Goes hand in hand with lesbian couples having the biggest rates of domestic violence.

Women are bitches. Always attacking each other. Its in their nature.

We live in a society where men are punished for responding and retaliating against bitchiness.

But women are free to respond to bitchiness with more bitchiness.

Men don’t do anything that is not rewarded by sex. Men are exactly what women want them to be.

Look how much your next paycheck gets taxed. Bear in mind that women as a group receive more money in government assistance than they pay in taxes. Guess where it comes from? You've been getting fucked this whole time, my friend.

If an article on the Internet showing men aren't to blame for everything is all it takes to shake your faith in equal rights for men, are you really "all for supporting men" in the first place?

Showing women as hateful creatures is not equality

What? Are you saying that this is an inconvenient truth and, as such, should be suppressed to save the feelings of women?
