Hmm... you know, having a child around 35 sounds much better than having one in my twenties. All I've seen of motherhood is struggle with finances, childcare, and shitty partners. But I've never considered what it would be like to raise a child with a HVM in my 30s. I will have to consider it.

My mother had her last baby naturally at 49, on the other hand I've known women in their 20s who were struggling to conceive. Fertility is unique in every woman and I'm glad this myth is being exposed as another one of the patriarchy's lies.

I've been talking about this to everyone I know for years, probably irritating the hell out of them but I don't care. What scientists have done to women with these bullshit lies (basing a fertility study on women in 1700s France, are you kidding?) is criminal in my mind.

How many women's 20s have been stolen because they believed they had to have kids before 30? How many women live in regret because they rushed to have children based on this utter bullshit?

Do not just 'trust science'. Do not just blindly trust scientists. Especially as women. Scientists are people and people often have agendas. I firmly believe that these lies were deliberate. Look at all the articles about dwindling birth rates. Those in charge know that the more educated and independent we are, they fewer children we have. So what better way to turn that around than to cause women to panic and rush into having children before they even know what they want from life?

I've always thought that the reason woman may have problems conceiving after age 35 is that they have problems with fertility anyway; and if they had tried to conceive at 25 they would have had the same issue 🤷🏾‍♀️

I believe this myth started when men decided they want to have sex with women too young for them. It's the only reason this myth exists.

I kind of figured that it was a myth because I know of tons of educated older women having children in their 40's. Like a poster said already, fertility is unique to every woman.

My mom had my brother at 34 and my sister at 40 and delivered us all vaginally. Whenever I hear a man use that as his argument as to why women should be more mindful about getting pregnant younger. I know that they A. Have no idea what they are talking about B. Need to stop policing women's bodies. C. Have no faith, and are PARTAKING in societal pressure. D. Aka they are full of it.

Okay so can we now talk about how men's sperm undergoes degradation after age 35 that not only creates difficulty with conception but can also cause harm to the mother and child. With the latter manifesting as developmental issues, mental illness or congenital diseases for the child.

As always the burden of fertility and reproduction is placed on women, but men need to have the light shone on them as well. The whole, "men can reproduce into their 90s" crap is tired.

I work as a bud tender at a pot shop and I’ve noticed that guys who are daily heavy pot smokers fuck with reckless abandon and have no kids. I’ve also had friends who tried to conceive with heavy pot smokers and couldn’t but eventually ended up pregnant by another man. My female friends and customers who share children with a heavy pot smokers generally report that it took them longer to conceive. This is all anecdotal but I can’t help but feel like fertility doctors haven’t made the connection yet and the woman blames herself. I haven’t heard about adverse effects on fertility in women caused by cannabis.

I just had my (probably) last baby at 39 and read a lot about this beforehand... There’s a lot of fearmongering that makes it sound like it’s nearly impossible to conceive after 35, and if you manage it, the kid will probably be fucked up, etc.

From what I was reading, I was prepared to try for 2 years to conceive this baby. It took 2 months. Lol.

When I was EIGHTEEN and still in high school I had some cysts on my ovaries that got found accidentally- NOT pcos I had no other symptoms etc. GP told me ‘when you meet the right guy, don’t wait because you might find it hard to conceive’ Those words still make me feel so icky!

I will turn 34 in just a few weeks. My husband and I has tried for 7 years now to have a healthy baby. No luck yet... so this gives me so much hope. To read the article but also your comments. It’s not to late and there is still a big chance that I will have my miracle. Thank you!
