This is such a simple question I feel embarrassed for asking. I saw recently that washing ones face with bar soap can dry it out. Does this mean that I should use what is referred to as a cleanser to wash my face in place of using bar soap? If so, does this mean I also should not wash my face in the shower with the bar of soap?

Working hard on being less of a hermit. Socialising more, structured activities, community events and gigs etc. Kind of hard but also rewarding and also improving my self esteem a bit.

Go to the gym 5-6 days a week. Eat a healthy diet. Do cold exposure. There’s not much you can do with limited genetics unfortunately. As a man today you need to have the full package. Looks, height, social skills, money. I have a lot of those things but lack some so self improvement will only take me so far

Things I'm trying to improve at:

Getting more organized. I got overwhelmed with work so certain things were left neglected. I should pick up the slack.
Doing sport. At least 15 minutes of daily exercises besides long walks a few times a week.
Returning back to regular cooking. I relied on husband cooking but now I have more free time so I should ease his load of housework.

So far I've restarted bullet journaling which helps with organization and budgeting and occasionally do some cardio exercises, but I should dedicate a specific time of day to it. Have been cooking in turns for a week and it seems to be working, but it's pretty tricky to put cooking in-between my lessons so the food would be ready when people got home.

What are you struggling with?

Motivation. Really struggle with sticking with it, because I don't think anything I can do will meaningfully help me in ways I care about.

Like for example, why do I go to the gym, when even if I practically lived there I'll still be the weakest adult male on Earth? Like I'll still be weaker than those soyboys The Try Guys. Feel like I'm wasting my time. And it's not just the gym, I feel that way about basically every form of self-improvement.

I am working on being calm and not losing it around my kids. We just moved a month ago with a 3 month old and a 3 year old. The 3 year old is not starting any kind of full time school until October so it’s mostly me with them until then. The move and the introduction of her baby brother has been hard on her. Everything feels like a struggle - getting dressed, going to the potty, hitting and throwing. All normal especially considering the transitions but it’s still tough. I need to do a better job of keeping my cool around her and remembering that she’s just a kid who needs love and fun just as much as structure and boundaries.

It’s very hard to fit in everything that needs doing around caring for the kids. Food prep, cleaning, laundry, unpacking, planning. Not to mention our poor dog. My husband is great but his capacity is limited by his job. And even with help from my mom, and the occasional babysitter, there’s just no way to do it all.

So I need to be more OK with things not getting done to my standards and not going to plan. Trying to see the light side of things and enjoy the kids rather than stressing out. And if I could lose a couple pounds that would be swell to - I have about 10 to go to hit my pre-baby weight.

I’m trying to basically live without spontaneously passing out. Sucks that you can’t just will your blood to flow through your veins faster or harder. I currently look like an out of shape junkie with both arms full of holes and bruises from recent medical tests. My gym/training has been put on hold until I figure out what’s wrong. I’m going to have a “tilt table” test today with a cardiologist…really really dreading it but hopeful that it will shed some light on whether or not I have POTS.

Once I get medical clearance, I’m anxious to get back to the gym.

One of the things I appreciate most about my gym routine is that I can see it in advance.

When I see the hard work coming, I can feel my body immediately pulling back, and asking myself "Do we HAVE to do this?" -- all the feelings of wanting to run away.

Yet when the day comes, I tackle them head on because the reward is so much greater than a better body.

It's staying committed to the hard things, even when you don't feel like it.

It's feeling the dread/discomfort & doing it anyway.

It's keeping the promises you made to yourself years ago.

It's understanding that you'll have to sacrifice fun meals today for a greater reward tomorrow (beautiful body)

I'm also reading Reality Transurfing to further condition my mindset & expand my spiritual growth.

We get better day by day.

Let's go.

I’ve worked out for nearly a decade so that’s not been an issue. I know I’m in shape because it’s not unheard of for me to have strangers (men or women) comment on my physique. But that’s out in the real world.

In the gym I probably just look like a slightly above average strength person - I swear humans in general are getting or have gotten larger than when I first started lifting. High school kids on steroids sorta thing. Trips me out to see people so young spending all their free time lifting.

What worked for me was taking it slowly, “5*5 strong lifts” to start. Then I set goals for specific exercises for a few years. Eventually I surpassed all my goals & now I just kinda fuck around & do whatever I feel like. I don’t eat enough tbh, but I currently have no specific goals so it doesn’t make much of a difference. As long as my minimum strength needs are met I’m golden.

It was my birthday recently, and nicely timed with that was the death (overdose: fentanyl) of a mentor/friend (now both of my mentors dead from OD), on top of getting another friend into detox for fent, and watching my other buddy drink himself to death in a hotel, I joined the club and had my own brief relapse from all the stress. It was actually my relapse prior to that that did me in. I took an ungodly amount of psychedelics, one which no one should take (Datura) and lost 10 days of my life. But that’s a story for a different time & different sub.

I tried hanging out with the old friend who is drinking when I briefly relapsed and it was, rightfully so, simply super depressing. As such it removed any desire I had to continue drinking. I must’ve only had 4 beers. So I handled that relapse well.

Regardless, my friend holed up in the hotel worries me. No ambition. He’ll be out of money soon. Doesn’t really have anything to live for and is kinda creating these problem scenarios for himself. When asked why he picked this hotel he’s at in particular, he told me a story of how he was assaulted there. Like, bro, any hotel in the city & you pick the one you were beaten near to death at? But he’s well into adulthood and I should let him figure out his shit, if he even wants to.

I have my own struggles with mental health & it’s the only thing really holding me back - a lot of trauma (be that loss/death or physical violence done to my person or theft of my life’s work…some of my life’s story is so far out it’s not even worth explicating, because people [therapists included] have simply never dealt with the sort of shit I’ve been thru].

This being said I’ve also been with enough women (countless tbf) & had solid LTR’s (some healthier than others, but increasingly more difficult to lose as I got older) to know why I’m single, and unfortunately one of those reasons is the impact sobriety has on my sociability.

I’ve taken a step back from PPD to observe the sub recently (realizing over a decade ago I was active in these forums when it was Chateau Heartise & Dalrock & Shark & other bloggers - a few remain) and noticed both PPD & those red pill spaces truly are an echo chamber or stuttering on repeat. At this point, the whole subreddit may as well be an AI generated conversation of caricatures. I think I’ve seen the same posts, topics, and replies for months.

It amazes me that there is so much cognitive dissonance in these spaces. I’m rambling. I think it’s incredible that rn the best voice for men is that Tate guy. What a tool. No wonder our worlds in shambles.

I'm a guy that for the past 8 months, has been working out 5 days a week using the following schedule:

Mon: Biceps, Triceps, Chest.

Tue: 5km Jog

Wed: Calves, Bums, Thighs

Thu: 5km Jog

Fri: Shoulders, Back, Abs.

In that time, I have switched to a modified keto diet (I heavily supplement it with fruits.) I'm beginning to see the outline of my abs and my chest sticks out a lot more, but my thighs and bums are still huge. Female attention is still pretty rare to come by. Thinking of taking up smoking to get rid of my large bums and thighs.

The last Hail Mary attempt at increasing my SMV is losing 10 kg and getting to ~12% bf, have lost about 3 kg. Been eating in a 500 calorie deficit, eating ~ 2-2.2 g/kg protein, working out 5-6 times a week, 2 hrs each time, strength training along with steady state cardio.

Positives: I'm just so poor lol, but I've applied for promotions, so that is good. I planned a trip to bond with family socially. I continued getting back on the exercise train even if slowly.

Struggles: Mainly the things that require daily consistency. Even with the diet, exercise, and the appearance-related personal stuff. Anything requiring consistency and money is more difficult these days.

Solution: I'll make a pact. Just for this one week, I'll be consistent. And another week after that. That's how I convinced myself to finish yesterday's run. Just 5 more minutes. Ok, now just 3 more. 1 minute and a half more. Before I knew it, the full time passed.

PPD takes: Always a chance this improvement might improve my marriage. Believe me, I'm sure my husband could use better eye candy and we could both use more money to even remotely have fun. In the end, I'm not doing it for my marriage. I can't make him change certain things that might be a problem. A man is not the key to happiness, but even if a man was, I couldn't force anything alone. Relationships take 2.

We did have some good sex. That was really nice, and maybe it's the same as everything else. 1 step at a time. 1 loving, shared gesture at a time, sex included, consistently over time will add up to so much more.

if we consider the dating market self improving only works in certain circumstances as a guy. the most effective improvement you can make to get more options isn't personality/social skills but looks. In my opinion as a man the best thing you can do to increase your chances is improving your looks and once you reach your ceiling in terms of looks you can focus on maxxing the other stats like social skills/money/game... the more attractive you are the more attractive people you can attract

With the right incentives, I'm more than willing to basically do anything. But, I'm not going to brainwash myself that the things I do are somehow intrinsically good.

I've done a lot of what people here would consider self improvement. But I don't consider doing all that stuff fundamentally good. The effort is put in to be attractive, and use that attractiveness to get laid. Take that away, and I'm not wasting my resources. If not for sex, I'm dressing for comfort, not looks. If not for sex, I'm shaving my head like its Covid lockdowns. If not for sex, I'm going to be a homebody, not out and about spending money I don't have to impress people I don't care about. By extension, if not for sex, I'm not stressing myself out in my career for extra money that I now don't need.
