Assuming that men are only interested in sex and women are only interested in hypergamy, then for a man, sex has a cost. If a man is able to find cheaper alternatives to sex (such as masturbation) or if he is able to suppress his desires, then his expenses come down, which means he is able to be financially better off and retire early. Even if a man uses sex workers occasionally, he is likely to be better off financially compared to marry a woman and having kids with her because sex workers are a variable cost, allowing the man to control the costs eg if inflation is high and the man wishes to cut down on expenses, he can reduce the frequently of visits to sex workers while increasing the frequency of masturbation. However, having a wife, family and kids is a fixed cost that involves ongoing payments that cannot be easy reduced. One of the key rules of business is to keep fixed costs low and make sure variable costs stay variable. This gives more flexibility.

However, does the same logic apply for women? If a woman is focused purely on financial success, is is better for her to find a wealthy man to marry or is she better off being single, getting a job, investing, and retiring early? If a woman marry a rich man, she can enjoy high standards of living and all she needs to do is some domestic duties and look after the kids, which is not a hard job. She is basically living off the man. However, there is risk with this approach because the man can easily divorce her and she become a single mother. She may not be able to get half the man's wealth if the man is well versed in asset protection and has good lawyers. Also it a woman stays home to look after the kids, she doesn't work and earns nothing and becomes completely financially dependent on the man. Domestic duties and looking after kids may be easy, but if the man becomes abusive or eg suddenly becomes addicted to rough porn found on the internet, then the stay at home mother effectively becomes a sex slave. As such, it may just be easier for the woman to simply be single and childfree and work for herself, invest for herself, and retire early.
