Wasn't there dating in the 1950s and 1960s? Yet, people still managed to get married young and have children quickly. So, in my view, it probably has to be something other than dating that is causing contemporary relationships to be so unhealthy.

On the contrary, I think you need many options to have a healthy relationship. If you don't feel like you and your partner have properly chosen each other and someone's forced to be with someone they don't really like due to a lack of other options, things are going to go badly. Dating before committing is healthy, at the very least you have to ensure you are compatible with your partner and your goals match.that’s why mainly western countries, eg the rich and powerful ones do it

Western dating is like going to a bakery, ordering a pastry, eating 90% of it, then deciding you didn't like it, returning it and moving to the next.

A healthy relationship is based on responsibility, commitment, duty. Not lust, not material greed, or whatever else westerners call "love". If you get into relationship, see it through to the end. Work through the hardships.

Having options and being more "judgemental/picky" prevents miserable loveless marriages where nobody wants to leave because they feel they have no choice. Taking your time and falling in love with someone who you actually like sounds a lot healthier than just tolerating your spouse because you were pressured.

Agreed. Dating has become marriage with everything but an "I do." Dating is open ended, there's no real commitment even in the longest relationships. Personally I wouldn't be able to trust someone to play such an important part of my life without fully committing. To me "dating" comes with the assumption that you have one foot in the door and you can turn on your heel and leave without consequences.

Greed, stupidity, envy and immaturity define relationships here in the West. Most females, and some men, treat love as shopping, always on the look out for new shiny toy. And unfortunately culture supports and enables it, especially for females. People don't really care about each other, just their feelings in the moment, think themselves infallible and don't appreciate what they have. It's a competition for using another person as much as possible while giving as little as possible.

And when such behavior leads to pain and disappointment they rarely reflect on their own actions, and instead start to blame all men.

"Dating" is a very American concept, especially for adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

Having multiple partners, and so many options continuously makes both men and women less tolerant, more picky, more jaded and more damaged when it comes to being committed.

This is more or less how most people operate in the industrialized world, it's not American specific at all.

Actual American specific dating culture that emerged post WII is more or less dead and gone or otherwise merged and indistinct from general "developed" world dating culture.

Countries that have healthy male-female dynamics generally do not have a heavy "dating" culture. It is weird and frowned upon to be "dating", and society will be pressuring anyone dating to quickly progress it to a serious relationship and then marriage.

It sounds like you're just describing traditionalism.
