and for one reason or another it's generally considered a lot less creepy and shameful.

In fact I would say it's worse in women's cases purely because most women have far more suitors than most men do, so to that end it makes more sense why a man might become obsessed with a woman who has shown interest in him (which isn't to say that it's a reasonable response but it's more understandable)

And when I think about my male and female friends, it has been the guys who have generally been harassed or stalked by ex girlfriends more than vice versa, one got their dog kidnapped and another one had their car scratched. I suppose men are statistically more likely to actually physically harm of murder women they're obsessed with which contributes to the stereotype of their cathexis being comparatively creepier.

Also, I know several intelligent, beautiful women who have at one point or another been eating out of the hand of a shameless piece of shit who treats them like dirt.

It always staggers me how such women who have endless options end up getting tunnel vision on a particular guy who oftentimes isn't even anything special to the extent that they will ignore far more respectful and even successful men who show interest in them. (question: how do women generally determine who to pursue relative to men?)

Maybe there's a sociological cause as women still fight the stigma of being devalued for their promiscuity which makes them more inclined to focus on one guy at a time?

I hate to make generalizations because this sort of thing is very individualized but I've noticed that men are often accused of succumbing to oneitis more than women, but I believe this is bullshit, and the nature of the obsession isn't generally any more extreme or creepy either.
