Do we need more ways to discourage men from approaching women? It seems cold approaching has fallen out of favor of most people these days.

I think women approaching men would decrease the necessity for men to always be the ones who approach. But that's not very popular among women, is it? Which is a pity, because generally women who take the initiative often have more successful dating lives.

I think we need to encourage men to read social cues.

Approaching strangers at parties clubs and bars is fine and it’s kind of a dick move to be mean on arrival if you’re approached in a space like that and it’s better to just give a polite no(unless he doesn’t take the no)

Things like “don’t approach women wearing headphones”

“don’t approach women in the middle of something”

“if she’s not engaging she’s not interested”

“Grocery stores and public transit is less likely to get a yes”

Are what they actually need to hear and internalize.

But discouraging men from approaching altogether lmao we already do that and it appears to be working so 🤷‍♀️

Wouldn't it be better to discourage shitty approaches and reactions to rejection? I don't think there's anything wrong with a guy coming over to talk to you cause he thinks you're cute. There's a problem if he won't take "no" for an answer and keeps bugging you, or if he gets aggressive but if he was chill about the whole thing, I don't see an issue. And I'm saying this as someone who doesn't like being approached.

But if you want to discourage men, I dunno, bark like a dog and walk around smelling like sewage, that will probably kill any romantic interest they might have.

It’s clear that he is trying to say “nobody wants you because of the bear and gym and me too!!!!” It sounds like he is getting a smug sense of satisfaction from these women not being approached and it gives him a sense of justice, because he feels that men are afraid to approach women now due to metoo and the gym thing and the bear thing.

Approaching isn’t bad. It’s not taking no for answer, trying to manipulatively trick women into things and being an asshole that’s bad.

I’ve been approached before, and I didn’t feel afraid because most of the time the men were considerate; they did it in a public open place so I didn’t feel cornered, they respected my no, and spoke to with me with respect (no gross oversexualisation). They probably did it before and got results with other women. They were emotionally/socially competent, and accepted rejection. Am I meant to be afraid of this?

Men approach women, it’s just a part of life, or it was a part of life for decades. Until suddenly everyone became super afraid it. I’m pretty sure my dad “approached” my mum at university, he’s a good dude and is not scary at all. If you ask around a lot of older men that found women that they dated and eventually had kids with this way. The issue isn’t the approaching, the issue is now we’re becoming retarded socially because we are being raised on computers/phones and kids don’t understand manners and social context cues.
