Men feel alienated from mainstream feminism because they don’t see their struggles reflected in the conversation. When they raise real problems, the discussion often pivots to how women suffer more. This usually plays out in two ways:

Men’s pain is viewed through the lens of female oppression, which implies that their suffering is only legitimate when it reinforces or supports women’s struggles. This framing makes it difficult for men’s issues to be acknowledged on their own terms.

Feminism tends to ignore the struggles of the average man. Everytime i had seen feminist talking about how hard is to live as a girl/woman in comparison with boys/men, they usually are comparing themselves to boys that are in the hightest postion of whatever social structure they are part of. Ignoring how that kind of person is the exception, not the rule, so is not surprising that many men don't trust their judgement or might even think that they are lying.

I don't remember who said it, but there was a comedian that said "Feminist only want equality in the sense that they want to be in the same places that the 10% of the male population on the top of society, but not equal to the regular joe on the street".

hypocrisy and double standards mostly . feminism likes to tell men to make your own movent about your issues then when men do they call it misogyny and try to silence the movement. feminism ignores issues men have or tries gaslighting with things like "but women have it worse" or its mostly men doing that like it like that makes it any better for men who have been victims of DV/Rape/assault. feminism actively gaslights men on things like domestic violence affecting male victims or false rape accusations being rare when statistics show that its anywhere from 5% to 50% depending on location and source (https://imgur.com/a/GHmq666)

so why should we follow a movement that openly allows hatred of men and when called out on it they say those arent real feminists but dont do anything to stop that hatred just makes excuses.

The main reason would be because men as a whole are waking up and seeing feminism for what it really is..
A movement that touts and proclaims the ideals of "Equality" but in reality the focus is only ever on equality as it affects women..

Men as a whole have been demonized, vilified and generalized for decades now with the constant messaging of "Not all men but always a man"
"Teach boys not to rape! instead of teaching girls don't get raped!"

You also have the feminist Patriarchy "Theory" which is nothing but a boogieman (Pun intended) designed so they can assign blame for everything wrong in the world and to also take women's agency away from them when convenient.

For example, if something bad happens to women? Its the fault of "The Patriarchy"
If women benefit in some situation over men or are otherwise advantaged or protected compared to men? Its "Beneficial Sexism" which is also caused by "The Patriarchy"

Couple that with "Toxic Masculinity" which regardless of any ACTUAL merit it may have, the term itself is deliberately gendered in such a way as to be easily weaponized and used to attack men and the fact that the term has morphed into being "Anything a man does or says which either offends, upsets a woman or that a woman disagrees with"

It looses its meaning when you have women saying "Men who burp after eating a meal is "Toxic Masculinity""
"Men who scratch their balls is "Toxic Masculinity""
Etc..

As such most men have decided that enough is enough, they are done being the proverbial whipping boy and so most of them are checking out.. I myself still DO care about women's rights / issues but I can no longer bring myself to invest time, effort and empathy into women's issues when men's rights, / issues will NOT receive the same in reciprocation.

Hence I now focus near exclusively on men's rights / issues.

A lot a feminists will openly admit that men are harmed by and benefited by patriarchy. However, when it comes to women they are apparently only harmed by patriarchy. The math doesn’t even math here.

In a situation where a man is at a disadvantage what is that same situation doing to the woman? When a daycare center says “we don’t hire men” what is that doing to both men and women as a whole? It’s like they deliberately Matrix their way out of it by saying female privilege doesn’t exist because they don’t have the dominant attributes. I’ve seen an expert say this on the Cinema Therapy video on Mean Girls. It’s insane how they bend over backwards. “Toxic femininity doesn’t exist because we wouldn’t assign toxic to something that is not the dominant.” Let’s condense that. “Toxic wife doesn’t exist because we wouldn’t assign toxic to someone that isn’t the dominant one.” See how that doesn’t make sense.

Toxic masculinity is just the bad traits that come with being masculine. Being aggressive; invulnerable, initiators, inherent leaders, etc. Ways this can be used to one’s benefit is fighting when you want; leading everything important, yelling when feeling insecure, etc. The disadvantage to this is that since you’re seen as an agent you therefore can’t get help; be seen as a victim, care about your life, etc.

Toxic femininity would then be bad traits that come with being feminine. Being passive; weak, agreeable, being a caregiver, etc. Ways this can be exploited is pretending to be weak; not being expected to act, keeping control of the children whether through daycare or parenthood, etc. the disadvantage to this is being expected to care for children by default; not being taken seriously in male fields, not always agreeing, etc.

It benefits and hurts both of us.

This is precisely why I have flipped to considering myself anti-feminist in the last few years. Because I've come to understand that feminism isn't belief in equality. It's belief in patriarchy. That is what separates them from non-feminist belief in equality. It doesn't matter if they acknowledge that patriarchy hurts men, too. Whenever they're not saying it as a PR effort to protect their movement, they're sneering it in a "serves them right" or "fucking idiots hurting themselves" manner.

But more importantly, when you place all the blame for it on men with the belief that "men have conspired amongst themselves to oppress women for thousands of years", there's a consequence to this. That this becomes a statement that there is innate evil in men. They'll try to claim that they don't believe in gender essentialism and blame it all on socialization. But where did that socialization begin? If men are to blame for the origination of patriarchy, which they enthusiastically push at every opportunity, then why did men originally begin to socialize each other to oppress women? They know they can never say it, but they *clearly* carry a belief system that is impossible without some element of innate evil in men.

And the consequence of that is they can never actually fully support gender equality. Because if men still carry whatever is in them that prompted patriarchy to form in the first place, then under true equality, won't they just do it again? When you get to the root of it, they don't actually believe that men and women can co-exist in an equal society, because in a truly equal situation, men are too dangerous to women. The best society they can imagine is one where men are disempowered for the sake of protecting women. And this aligns very cleanly with their actual behavior and the specific policies they support.

The "patriarchy" makes no fucking sense. This world isn't the result of men alone. But using that, makes it sound like this word is baaaaad and it's because of men! If that's not extremely sexist what is that? Feminism would make ni sense anymore, we need egalitarianism, we need unbiased philosophers to talk, we need that women call toxic women and men call toxic men. We need to live in reality : if you have broader jaw than me and more masculine traits, it will be hard for me to call you a she. And that's OK because i accept you as you are you know, we don't judge people on their sexuality but on their integrity and the main problem is a out the bigots who don't accept. Now bigots feel persecuted and are even more violent (the roe v wade reverse!) and have more material to work with! And the left is just taking care blindly of identity politics kinda pushing me outside of the scope!

I want it to be fair for everybody, find compromises even with the bigots because they are part of society. But for now, no discussion is possible! You talk, you get cancelled and berated and the mods will always side with women trying to shut you up (at least in reddit but I have got that in other platforms too). Yesterday I had an encounter in Jung's sub. You talk against the main narrative, we downvote you, we dehumanize you, we strawman you, we put words on your mouth, we bully you and NOBODY will help you. Except redpillars... But I can't agree with what they are saying EVEN to defend me!

I consider the Patriarchy framework to be dishonest and geared towards allowing awful women to cheat in society.

For example, men's hatred of the idea of raising a child that is not biologically theirs is deeply ingrained by evolution but French feminists made it illegal to get paternity tests without the mothers permission to allow women to cheat and still parasitize male resources for their children.

Men needing to be professionally accomplished is just as biologically ingrained but misandrists can convince men to attack their own ambition and take themselves out of economic competition by convincing them that male ambition and orientation towards dominance is a patriarchal construct rather than an evolutionary instinct.

They're laughing at us that we were weak enough to believe them and damage ourselves and our destinies in their favor. They are irredeemably untrustworthy. They're obviously just cheating.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of this, a man mentions how the mayority of suicide victims are men and how a lot of them are told to supress their emotions.

But then someone says "and who set up that system? men", and then act like if they said something clever. But to me that's just victim blaming, just because they happen to be of the same gender doesn't mean they're guilty that other men set up that system, like for example a very left leaning man that would have never set up a patriarchal system like how the right wing ones do, but still being told that because the blame is put on men as a whole, just like the kind of guys who talk about women like a monolith.

I've been on the internet for quite some time, and back in the day being a feminist meant being into equal rights. That means not generalizing men, dismantling gender essentialism and all that stuff. Acknowledging that men can be affected by the "patriarchy" (I don't believe in it anymore - I think crapitalism is the root cancer of society, and that women enforce harmful gender roles as well) was a part of it. These days, "feminism" has become mainstream, and has also evolved into man-bashing, so obviously not many men would want to be a part of it.

I would consider myself to be a feminist, though very critical of it \\\ so, you should condider yourself an egalitarian.

Feminists proclaim that feminism is a movement for gender equality but don't care about anti-male sexism at all and cancel men's rights (who could advocate for men) activists with slurs they are far right, fascists, homophobes, transphobes. While it's toxic European feminists are rapidly becoming homophobic and transphobic.

I see that most feminists cherish gender stereotypes that benefit CIS women like "ladies first". They proclaim that feminism is almost the same as LGBTQ rights movement. But this is one the samples how they just don't care on us. This is just one of many samples. How many feminists have said that male only mobilization is sexism? Gay, bi men, non binary AMABs, trans women (as they are considered men) are among forcibly kidnapped on the Ukrainian streets. The radfem lobby which has occupied LGBTQ organizations that already declaring that "cis gay men" are supposedly privileged despite all the hate crime statistics, list of countries that criminalize only male homosexuality and notorious porn based double standard on same sex experiments. It's just malicious!

Because of feminists in many European countries gay men can't create families, because of their ridiculous lie and demagogy on surrogacy. And yes, I used to be a huge feminism and I'm very angry right now.

Because modern feminism is by its very nature anti-egalitarian. They oppose legislation that is neutral and applies to any demographic that suffers the injustice they claim to oppose. I don't believe in perceived discrimination being codified into official systemic discrimination "to balance things out" let's fix the law, not break it further.

It's like when people talk about "true" communism or "true" capitalism. As far as I can tell, in practice, feminism means "women get to do all the stuff men do" and it's basically seen as a group for women to boost one another. I have no issue with that, I want everyone to have all the opportunities they can. I want everyone to have all educational, professional, occupational routes open to them.

But feminism in practice isn't this high-minded thing about truly pulling down the broken system, it's about thriving within the system as is. What's broken, per most feminist authors, is the notion that we can thrive through domination and control. That's not purely a feminist observation - I think you could find the same conclusion in stoicism, most eastern religions, most books on emotional health etc. But what is actually celebrated IRL is the girlboss who is following the exact same blueprint to life as the man she may have replaced. Even at my work, I see these successful power-women drifting into "toxically masculine" behaviors. One of our partners hired a guy while she was drunk because he looked cute. Drinking at work, vaping in the middle of a meeting, getting all egotistical and blowing up at people - and why wouldn't they do the same shit? At the end of the day, men and women are more similar than they are different.

So personally, I just don't see what I, as a man, have to gain, or have to add. It's been made abundantly clear that we are "taking up space" or "stealing the spotlight" or "making it about us" or "silencing female voices" if we participate in feminist spaces, and I have no desire to participate in the ritual self-flagellation men are supposed to do in those spaces to prove they're "the good ones."

I'm a motte feminist. In theory completely compatible with being egalitarian which I would normally claim first. The way you might define terms here men are not patriarchy and it's more a pervasive cultural problem impacting both sexes in different ways.

I'm not a bailey feminist. I could name double standards or a definitional exclusion of men's problems or misandry but I'll just mention them as a blanket for the advancement of women at any cost to men.

I think the problem has and will always be that men and women are not the same so when you force symmetry into asymmetry it never works out...

Men have different wants and needs and women have different wants and needs and we should embrace our differences instead of fighting over them.

Feminism doesn't work because it only focuses on the privileges and rights men have without acknowledging the privileges and rights women have. Most men aren't that dumb and we all kind of collectively see through the BS.

I prefer egalitarianism which strives for equality and bypasses most all the bullshit and I think that as a philosophy should supercede on most issues. Yes I realize females have particular issues related specifically to their sex and gender but I don't feel like, as a male, it's my business to be all involved with that and I don't feel they want males to be all involved in, just like males have their own sex and gender specific issues that I'm not interested in females being all involved in.

It's called egalitarianism, and feminism ditched that way back on the 70s when they recognized it meant women would get more responsibilities and would be held accountable to a higher standard.

See the problem is you're thinking about this logically, and logic has nothing to do with ideology. Feminism says men are violent oppressors who oppress women for their own benefit, and that men vuolt society as a patriarchy to systematically benefit thesemves at the expense of women.

When women look around they see that reality doesn't match the made-up ideology so feminism comes up with a bunch of notions to explain away the inherent contradictions between what they claim to believe about reality and how reality actually is.

To prevent people from.coming face to face with cognitive dissonance, of holding the two mutually contradictory ideas of how feminism describes the world bmvs how the world reality is, feminism comes up with thought terminating clichés, a sentence that sounds good reassure the believer, and immediately gets them to stop thinking about the contradictions in order to preserve their belief in the ideology at the expense of the believers rationality, logic, and grasp on reality.

Patriarchy hurts the men too, it's men raping other men, internalized misogyny, toxic masculinity and more are all ways for pelple to stop thinking about and stop empathizing with male victims and redirect all blame back onto men.

Toxic masculinity is a fun one too because the concept it refers to is useful but they could and should have called it toxic gender norms. Instead feminism chose to pick a deliberately offensive term and fight to keep the term that men have repeatedly told them is offensive.

They rather keep the offensive term that aligns with the ideology, than give a single flying fuck about men's feelings.

And then they wonder why more men aren't feminists.

Feminism is a woman's advocacy group at its core that's completely synonymous with being "Benevolent Sexism: The Movement". While it may validate women's experiences, it's built on the foundation of erasing male victims and it relentlessly perpetuates and reinforces patriarchal norms that women are victims and that men are perpetrators. They advocate for rapists, pedophiles, domestic violence abusers, and child abusers around the globe, marginalizing millions of male victims with their advocacy.

Feminists perceive holding female-perpetrators to be "taking away from the conversation", so they leave them off of statistics, give them legal immunity, or fall back into women being the "benevolent other" to have women-only reform programs when they're rarely held accountable. They perceive boy's and men's victimhood as an existential threat. Even during #metoo they attacked any man who stepped forward and accused a woman, but were cool if he accused another man. When it counts, feminism is just men vs women. Unfortunately that's the only kind of "equality" you can expect from a movement that centers one of the genders. Of course the most effective solution to solving rape culture and femicide is to hold all rapists accountable, but feminists really hate the idea of holding women accountable so nothing changes.

Feminism may have a long history of academics, while some of which certainly makes sense, it's the same academics that created the belief-based duluth model that marginalizes millions of male victims of DV globally and the same academics that peer-reviewed and certified mein kampf as credible contemporary feminist theory.

Feminism doesn't encourage accountability, it encourages a victimhood narrative that blames the world, mainly men, for all their own shortcomings. This incompetency is one of the reasons feminists are so incapable of getting society on board despite claiming to champion a cause that most western folk can agree one. Feminism de-powers and removes women of autonomy (but most importantly, accountability and blame) via "internalized misogyny", which is a progress way of saying "you can't know any better because you're a woman" to silence women who disagree with them.

To me, feminism weirdly parallels Christianity except it centers white women instead of white men. Feminism is for men the same way women are for Christianity; as the second-caste, sinful, villain role whose words don't matter and are to blame for all that's wrong with the world. They effectively reinvents prejudice through a progressive lens. No movement that dehumanizes a group as oppressors is capable of achieving gender equality, as they're explicitly framing it as "us vs them".

And most damning of all, most feminists are completely comfortable with a modified version of patriarchy that's completely toxic to men while telling themselves "men benefit" from this role that they refuse to let men out of. Then future feminists can solely blame men and excuse women's behavior for their lack of progress. The sole onus of blame, sacrifice, and change is purely put on boy's and men's shoulders while enabling, coddling, and catering to women's needs under the guise of "personal choice". It's society's duty to get together to let women out of their traditional role, but it's a "personal choice" to let men out of theirs, so most women don't because it's really convenient for them. More feminist countries lean harder into traditional gender roles, because evidently being an emotionally mutilated workhorse isn't a role women are keen on filling. It's a burden that feminists frame as a "privilege", prefer the arrangement, and then hold it against men.

Feminists end up holding 49% of society accountable for the actions of 100% of society. They do less than nothing for men, as they assert men have no issues for being men, center women in men's issues, co-opt the issues, and force it through a feminist lens until boy's and men are no longer the victims of their own problems - all the while claiming to care about both genders' issues. In practice, feminism may have been positive overall, but as far as its affected men its been overwhelmingly negative.

In the feminist narrative the patriarchy is now just what Satan is to Christianity. Misogyny is the original sin of man and men are the sinners. Everything bad and wrong about the world is misogyny. If a woman does something bad, it’s internalized misogyny, so therefore it’s actually the patriarchy’s (read: men’s) fault.

Women are nothing but innocent victims with no agency, who are tempted by the patriarchal snake to defile themselves by internalizing misogyny.

It was funny watching from the sidelines when feminists were tearing each other apart and demanding group discipline by labeling other women pick-me girls for apparently seeking male validation. This is a very broad statement. Many men have different reasons.

That said, I would say I follow feminism, because it benefits me rather than hurt me.

If feminism is attacking the patriarchy, which is hurting me more than helping, then why would I not follow it? Because I disagree with a few bad actors and toxic people? The same thing happens in other groups. I would rather follow it for the good cause and call out those who are wrong. That said, as a man, it is hard to call out women without sounding like you are mansplaining.
