When I say masculinity or femininity --- I use these terms in the way they are popularly defined by stereotypes relating to appearance, roles in marriage, behaviour, personality, parenting style and general skillset.

And, of course, to what you extent do you conform to the stereotypical caricatures/traits of your own sex? In terms of appearance, role, behaviour, and skillset.

I'm asking because I want to know if the so-called "masculine - feminine" polarity/complementarity sustains marriage? Or is it better if two partners are more similar to each other?

I hear a lot of contrasting takes on marriage.

1) Some people say that marriage is best when it follows the "best friends who love each other, fuck each other and laugh with each other" model.

2) But some people say that the above model is overly simplistic and disrespectful to the sanctity of marriage. And instead ---- a masculine-feminine polarity is needed as the primal tension that drives all humans to seek out members of the opposite sex.

What is your take on this, users of PPD?

Some people say that marriage flourishes best when both partners are like best friends -- best friends who share a home, share financial and household responsibilities, have shared goals and shared values, with deeper emotional intimacy and of course, sexual intimacy.

Other people say that likening marriage to "best friends who fuck each other" is a mockery of the sanctity of marriage. And that a certain "masculine/feminine" polarity is needed for long-term sustainability (and for sexual tension).
