Why is it written as "they WILL have sex" and "you HAVE to have sex"? If they're having sex, it should be because they both want to, and therefore shouldn't factor into who pays. If someone's having sex despite not wanting to then something is very wrong.

I'd say she should pay for it, and he should return the favour and fly out to her the next time.

If you both are going somewhere that's not the town you live in, I think it's more reasonable for them to pay for their own flights and the man to cover the hotel and most other expenses. That's what I've done for most casual flings when we've gone on trips together.

The problem is the expectation, he doesn't have to pay unless he wants to, the girl doesn't have to fly if she doesn't want to pay, its really simple.

Now if she were to visit I hope she did that with the intention of treating it as a vacation else she's just overinvesting which doesn't bode well for the relationship, if she continues to do stuff without waiting for him to match it she's exactly going to feel like shes not getting what she deserves. You need to wait until he matches the investment or just never do such a thing in the first place.

Instead plan a vacation for you both together.

Whoever is more interested should be the one to travel and pay for their own flights and hotel. Traveling on someone else’s dime is a bad idea because they are likely to expect “payment” via sex even though they shouldn’t. Sex is absolutely NOT a guarantee and shouldn’t be an expectation regardless.

If one party is willing to invest the time and $$$ travel to see if there’s a connection, that’s on them.

The only caveat is that if either person goes into this situation knowing they aren’t interested and allows the other person to invest money or time, they are a bad person. That absolutely DOES NOT mean that anyone has an obligation to do anything that they don’t enthusiastically want to do once they are face to face.

The comment about sex was weird. Sounds like she doesn’t enjoy sex and thinks it’s something she gives men not something she enjoys.

She doesn’t sound ready for any sexual relationship.

Also the scenario is weird. Why would someone be flying to meet someone they barely know and have just been talking but aren’t clear about romance being an option? Why meet at all? Just keep talking. Why not meet halfway? Or whichever party wants it more should fly to where the other lives.

Why on earth would you go so far as to take a flight to see someone you're not even dating? If you're going all that way for them the least they could do is want to date you. If they don't even like you that much, why bother? If they just want to hook up they could surely try doing so at a shorter distance?

Anyway, if you're on a flight and it's not for work I think you should pay for it. Women aren't children and it's insulting to imply they can't pay for their own things.

(And just general advice: if you're not even dating someone and you're going to their house for the exclusive purpose of sex and you can't easily get home without flying, you should perhaps reconsider for your safety. After all, what happens if you say no?)

In an traditional world, women would not be permitted to travel alone, and certainly wouldn't be allowed to go off on some sexual adventure.

But in our modern world where equal rights are enshrined in law, if a woman wants to travel to see a man, she can certainly pay for it herself.

In any event, a man would be a fool to pay for a woman's travel to visit him. Because if he does so, he is wide open to being manipulated. In the same way that women sometimes trick men into buying the drinks or expensive meals.

As a side note, this is yet another example of women wanting the benefits of traditionalism (men pay for their travel) while refusing the burdens of traditionalism (women cannot independently jet off to some sexual adventure).
