Name changes are almost always about identity, not emotional attachment. Not a big deal and let it go. It does not mean she wants to get back. There are many possible reasons: laziness or she built a professional identity using your last name. Or she does not want numerous name changes or she has a legal reason to use that name or like your last name and derives some comfort from it. She is not trying to reconnect but has some other reason to use that name.

You're as well trying to figure out the origin of the universe. Its probably more understandable than what goes on in our ex's heads.

I've given up trying to rationalize my estranged wife's irrational behaviour. The more I know, the less I understand as someone once said.

Who cares what she changes her last name to? Women are crazy. Bottom line. I never understood their thinking then, if I truly understood them, I would probably still be married.

My mom did that, but she was a strange woman who, though she married three more times, according to her, was still in love with my dad. I think she did it because it was her name for so long as well as the name of her children. I think it was just kind of home base to her.

Mine wanted to change her name but since she had so many credit court orders against her, the judge said she can't because she was trying to hide from the creditors and collections. The judge ordered her debt but she'll never pay it

When I got divorced my exwife kept my last name because it was the same as our two daughters, 6 and 9 at the time. One year post divorce she got remarried and took his last name.

3 months later she told me she wanted to change our kids last names to her new last name. I said “no! I’m not some dead beat dad. We have 50/50 custody.” And both daughters said “no!”

Three months after that? Her new husband left her and then filed for divorce. Then she told me she was thinking about going back to my last name.

But she didn’t have money to file a response to his divorce petition so she was stuck with his last name.

Now she tells me she wants to go back to her maiden name. But she still doesn’t have enough money to file with the court,

Some people are weird. My ex kept my last name for years. I just recently found out she remarried like 7 years ago... And changed her name back to her maiden name.

Does your last name carry any weight in the city you live? I'm asking because my father was very popular and respected in the city I grew up and literally carrying that last name got me so many favors from people I didn't even know.

Your last name probably makes her full name sound better! My ex kept my last name as well because her maiden name was an ugly Czech name and my last name is great.

I wonder if she never went through with the name change on her second marriage. Like it was just a lot of effort that she would "get around to some day" and that someday never happened. She may have socially gone by the new last name but legally was still your last name.

Changing your name is a colossal PITA.
