Something I've noticed since I was an edgy “not like the other teenage girls” teenage girl hating on celebrities my peers liked is that it's mostly grown men who do that, and they have very different motivations from me. I used to hate on teenage heartthrobs because I thought they were talentless but the grown men were calling them effeminate, secretly gay, not a man's man, inexperienced with life and women etc. All their insults would center around the fact that those teenage heartthrobs (Justin Bieber, Twilight, One Direction) are not real men and the implied conclusion was that they are unworthy of attention from teenage girls.

After spending some time on this subreddit and reading about how men stay attracted to teenagers for their whole lives while women's preferences keep evolving as they age it got me thinking: are grown men upset that teenage girls like teenage boys and don't have an early and life long preference for 35 year old, established men? Or is it something else?
