I don't know any woman who hasn't been assaulted in some way. When I was 14 I confided in my friends that I had been raped 4 years prior, every single one had been subjected to sexual objectification or some sort of assault as well. I was horrified.

I was raped at 19, I know a girl that was 17, and probably more people that just aren't okay with telling others. They can't even wait until we become a person to ruin our lives forever. In 2 years, I have stopped going on walks, riding my bike, going to the movie theater by myself (I used to be an avid movie person), going anywhere at night or early morning by myself without a pepper spray. Going anywhere, night or day without having my car doors locked immediately and at all times. But yeah RaPe IsnT As Bad As MurdER. I used to have panic attacks if I was alone, at home, on a street, anywhere if I was alone. And guess who immediately got into an abusive relationship because I was so needy.

The first time I almost got assaulted was when I was right. EIGHT years old! He was a close friend of my mother and was in his thirties. Thank goodness my mother had warned me about men like that. Whilst I was able to get out of the situation and report him, that experience skewed my perception of men forever.

I hate how it's the norm for girls and women to experience or deal with sexual trauma in some form. It's not a joke, this is our bodies and our minds that are being hurt.

I posted something similar when #metoo was picking up steam and the amount of WOMEN who showed up to comment how "nothing like that had ever happened to them" because they were so good and virtuous or whatever was truly disheartening. Some told me how everyone is "too sensitive" and it's ruining things for all women in the workplace. All I could think to respond with was, "hope you get picked."

I don't even know what to do when I'm confronted with that attitude from other women. Try to reason with them or delete and block?

One day at work my director and I were having a conversation and she said that she remembers the first time she was assaulted and started to tell the story and all I could think about was that she said "the FIRST time" and not "the time".

Almost every single woman knows another woman who has been sexually assulted or harassed but pretty much every single man doesn't know another man who has done that shit to women.

Too many men get away with it.
