If you want to level-up through going to group or individual therapy, NEVER go to a "life coach." Please go to a licensed social worker/counselor/therapist/psychologist.

Licenses for mental health clinicians are regulated by a state or national government agency. They require a criminal background check, a degree from an accredited university, hundreds-thousands of hours of training, passing board examinations, and annual continuing education credits.

Life Coaching has zero oversight and no requirements. Literally anyone can call themselves a "life coach." I know of quite a few life coaches in my area who could never be licensed to provide mental health services due to not having the required education, lying about credentials, criminal behavior, or lack of professional boundaries.

Examples: -Male "life coach" started dating a client and became incredibly controlling, manipulative, and abusive. -Man rebranded himself as a life coach after losing his license as a psychologist for smuggling contraband into the prison where he worked. -Man joined a "healing" trauma group (ran by a life coach) with the sole intend of trying to date the women in the group by preying on their emotional vulnerabilities.

Before going to a therapist, always be sure to verify their license/credentials. This can usually be done on a government website. Even if their license is in good standing, always check to see if they have any prior complaints or violations.
