I was actually surprised by many users claiming that these issues are common and should be expected, instead of the problems I experienced in my dating life, which were cheating, laziness/indifference, and dissatisfaction.

I think that you’re right and that they aren’t common. A guy getting drunk or high once in a while or yelling during an argument is not the same as a guy who is an actual addict or who is dangerously, pathologically angry. I agree with the users here who say 5 to 10 percent.

It's a small percentage. I think u/thejim66 has it right at around 20%.

Here's the thing, though - women are insanely attracted to men with anger and addiction issues.

There'd be fewer of these men if women wouldn't fuck these men and show their attraction to them.

OP - when we say addiction excluding porn, aren't we really talking about alcoholism and substance abuse? Or is there more to it in your opinion?

I think less than 10% of men have issues severe enough to be pathological. Much more than that, and we’d have a hugely dysfunctional society.

None of the men in my circle of colleagues raise suspicion for these concerns.

2 men out of the 30 or so men on my freshman floor did.

I do think that as people pair up and exit the dating market, men with pathological problems become overrepresented. But I also think that women have a tendency to gravitate towards those men because there’s a certain appeal to those dark traits. There isn’t much appeal to the straight-laced nerdy looking “nice guy.” Even if he isn’t even truly “nice,” he’s a far more stable and “boring” option.

It is quite difficult to evaluate actually. Men are not expected to expose any problems they have they are expected to hide them and deal with them while pretending that everything is OK.

Whenever says "men are like" or "women are like" in this context they mean just the people they choose to date.

I wpuld expect that the kind of women who date a lot of men, go for men with huge egos, and require a high level of aggressiveness, end up dating these same kind of guys over and over again.

Very little, just few. Your question is for when consuming or rage becomes an issue meaning men who can't control it. Those aren't that many I'd say less than 1% male population based on the fact rapists aren't more than 0.5% of the male population

Keep in mind that women are going to “stretch the truth” about these things.

If he yells at her once for being annoying and unpleasant she’ll call that “anger issues”. If he had trouble getting it up once she’ll call that “porn addiction”.

In reality it’s probably no more than 10% of men who have these. It’s also dependent on age and socioeconomic status probably

This is sort of tough because you need to define what you mean by "addiction". The ASAM says it's: "Addiction is a treatable, chronic medical disease involving complex interactions among brain circuits, genetics, the environment, and an individual’s life experiences. People with addiction use substances or engage in behaviors that become compulsive and often continue despite harmful consequences."

So for example, if you dated a guy who you thought played way too many video games, but he was able to do so without much ill effect on his life, is he an addict or no? How about a guy who drinks alcohol every night but is otherwise totally fine and healthy?

Addiction and laziness go hand in hand. Wherever you find a lazy man, you will find television, video games, drugs, or something of that nature. This is high among the single men and low among men in relationships. Sex, and the promise thereof, makes men tick. Very few men are hyperactive when single or lazy when in a relationship.

Anger issues are completely separate and more rare than you think. The competition amongst the women whom find this attractive is very high. There's not enough of them to go around to meet the demand.

Around 30%-35%. I know the official results from "the studies" and I think they are absolutely garbage or refer to extreme cases .Self reporting studies vastly underestimate most issues. That said I think the percentage of women with issues is even higher.

20% probably covers the whole spectrum. But by the same token I've been around a lot of people consider having a socially acceptable amount of alcohol too much and would consider even a casual beer a couple of times a week to be too much. At this point its less about the man having a problem and more the woman wanting a man who doesn't have any relationship with any kind of substance regardless of its legality or the health of that relationship.

I'm not sure what a realistic percentage would be, I think it depends on if you mean of the dating population or the general population, but I think its a lot more than people think. Growing up I think most adults I knew had drinking problems at least and I recognized that as a child. Now I just see it everywhere. Addiction also comes in many forms, so I think even people may appear addiction free, but actually are addicted to technology, unhealthy habits, etc.

I'd say like 40% have either an addiction or emotional problem AT LEAST

About 25%. Most times when women talk about "porn addiction" they're referring to any man who watches porn. This is because they want to control access to male arousal so that low value men are left with no sexual outlet and either kill themselves or are arrested, thus ensuring their removal from the dating pool.

Anger I say less than 15%, addiction I say 60% because I include video games and TV and food.

If I excluded those three things I'd say that addiction is 30%.

Chronic anger/addiction issues? I don't think there are many men with those traits.

Acute ones (as in, they happen once in a while, like being addicted to a game for a few days or losing their patience in a discussion)? I do think they are pretty common and to be expected.

To me, it seems like some of this is people making up narratives to justify their own behavior. The vast majority of men consume porn and it's an easy thing to blame.
