This has me fuming. I'm not an avid poster, but I can't even believe somebody wrote this. Each gender has a unique set of problems, and equality will never exist in a society that believes one side's issues are more relevant, meaningful, or for that matter existent than the other. Notice how Logan never gets in a fist fight and has his nose broken, is never bummed out because he's short, never has to ask a girl to a dance, never gets power tools for Christmas, never goes on a date with a girl who only shows up for a free dinner, never loses his kids in a custody battle, or has to pay half his net worth to someone who despises him. This is bullshit and reflects really poorly on our cultural standards. Fuck the girl who wrote this pointless smut garbage.

Logan has been playing soccer for several years, but he suddenly drops out. When he competes he gets sweaty, his hair gets messed up and he doesn't like the way his legs look when he's running. He knows that girls could be eyeing him and he is gripped by self-consciousness. It's OK, though. He has plenty of male friends who have also decided that athletics make them look gross, so now they all watch the girls' matches from the sidelines and cheer the girls on.

Let's replace the word "trophy" with "model" or "ideal", and we have either a "model wife" or a "model husband". Be it trophy, model, or ideal, it means basically the same thing. Future spouse who has a partner proud to be with them. Of course the implication is that women are valued for their looks, except that being beautiful isn't exactly a bad thing for men OR women.

Birth: ...you say goodbye to the skilled and compassionate nurses who took such good care of you both, and one of them tells you, "He is so gorgeous. I bet he'll be a model one day."

Well fuck me, are you daring to imply my baby boy is somehow beautiful? The nerve of that nurse!

I fail to see what's wrong here. Be it a prince or a princess, grandmother's are allowed to be affectionate towards grandchildren.

Age 3: Logan is an active preschooler. As he runs through the house, you hear the tap-tap-tapping of his little shiny dress shoes on the hardwood floors...Outside is a new swing set. He loves to try to run up the slide, but it's tricky in those smooth-soled shoes...teachers notice that it's hard for him to run and climb like the girls, but they gush over how handsome he looks in them.

Perhaps its time to buy him a pair of proper shoes then. If I recall, they make toddler sized tennis shoes for BOTH genders these days. Catch up.

Age 4: Now in pre-K, Logan is really into imaginary play...They avoid the girly doctor kits and toy cars and multi-colored game boards. Those come from the girl aisle.

What's that? Girls play differently that boys do? Why hasn't anyone noticed this before!? The injustice of differing interests! I suppose next we should claim toy cars and actions figures and video games create a hostile environment for girls, and should be made to be more gender inclusive despite 'most' girls having NO interested in those things.

Age 6: Logan is learning to read! There are so many books in his classroom, and he naturally gravitates to books about princes. He even wears his Prince Charming costume to school most days and keeps it clean...You love that he is learning the important princely qualities of kindness, good grooming and an appreciation for the finer things in life. You do wish he'd like books about science, too

Well there's your problem isn't it? If you're a parent and your child displays NO interest in science, then how is that any body else's fault? If anything its YOUR fault, but I wouldn't even go that far because not everyone can be naturally inclined towards the sciences.

Age 11 Middle school! It's a whole new world with different classrooms, different teachers and kids who seem to have changed a lot over the summer. Sometimes he pretends to be dumb so girls will like him. Logan feels some pressure to conform. He wants to dress like the other boys in clothes that you and his father feel are a bit too clingy and revealing. He notices how hot and sexy all of the boys are on television and in the movies, and he wants to be hot and sexy too, so he rolls up the bottoms of his turquoise shorts to make them shorter, hoping not to receive a dress code violation. He has mastered the ability to look around nonchalantly as he walks down the hall, checking to be sure the girls are admiring his body.

Typical middle school experience. I see little in the way of gendered politics with this one.

Age 17: It's time to look at colleges. Logan is excited for this new chapter in his life. He'd like to apply to engineering schools and he might, even though he knows it's a woman's world and that he'll have to perform twice as well to be perceived as half as good. He'll face a lot of sexism and sexual harassment in the workplace. He'll get paid less than the women, who everyone knows are innately better at science. Deep down, he wonders if he can be handsome and sexy and a chemical engineer, and whether he'll be able to one day balance having a family with that kind of job. You tell him that even though he sees these stereotypes a lot in the media, men can do anything women can.

Sounds like they're trying to predict the future with this one.

All in all, this article is a lot of complaining about nothing too troubling.

I thought we already established that "Logan" wasn't into science. Perhaps my biggest complaint with this STEM bs is that everyone acts like if we just shove a bunch of women into engineering everything will work out. Guess what, you can offer full ride scholarships to get people to do things, but that doesn't change the fact that they'll still hate it if they don't like it. I can barely count the number of women I know who received full rides to get STEM degrees only to work less than a year before declaring that they actually hate their field. Now suddenly everyone's complaining about "sexist tech culture" causing all of these women to leave.

Not according to every admissions counselor, fellowship organization, and recruiter. To those people he's as good as gold. In fact, he's in such short supply that different organizations are competing for him. Failure to attract enough people like Logan mean that an organization will suffer horrible consequences, and it's a zero sum game. Someone has to lose, and spoiler alert: it's not Logan.

I worry about that all the time. But not only is that a concern, I first and foremost need to be prepared to be the primary breadwinner. If my future wife has higher earning potential than me AND decides that she wants to work full time, then I can worry about that work/life balance. But looking forward, I can't do anything that jeopardizes my earning potential.

The media is the problem. You're literally telling women every day that being an engineer is awful and that you'll get harassed and discriminated against. If you'd stop fucking doing everything in your power to convince women NOT to be engineers, maybe you'd get some more.

Then you throw piles of money at the mediocre ones to study it, but they're just following the money, and competing against men who have worked their entire lives for it, so they hate it. And then you blame all of this on sexism, making the entire thing more undesirable. Idiots.

One thing they've got spot-on is the color coding. All this "girl's stuff is pink" nonsense is ridiculous.

However girls aren't constrained to pink; they only get pink when someone chooses to give them a "girls-only" toy. Girls don't just play with girls-only toys though; they also play with "everybody" toys of every color.

The one thing that doesn't happen is boys playing with the girls-only toys. Pink doesn't mean "for girls"; it means "for girls only".
