My STBXW and I agreed to a divorce back in September. We agreed to wait until after our youngest son turned 18 to file in order to avoid child custody issues.

I bought her out of our house and have been waiting for her to find a place (we still share the home) and also to see what her financial situation looks like before we file. I’ve been patient and a bit reluctant. I have been wanting to talk to an attorney to get some guidance on the process and have been putting it off.

She has a drinking problem. She decided to participate in dry January. This past week her FWB encouraged her to break it for some reason and she listened to him and bought a bottle of vodka over the weekend. The hell that she unleashed in our home in her drunken state finally got me to commit to filing. I’m connecting with an attorney this week if I can and will file as soon as practical. I am considering asking her to find a place of her own within 60 days.

She offered some halfhearted apology to the family via text in the middle of the night for her behavior last night but then proceeded to blame our oldest son for her outburst.

I can’t live in a toxic environment anymore. And I absolutely refuse to let some other man (who is cheating on his wife with my STBXW, by the way) have that level of control over what goes on under my roof.
