It is basically this;

If the girlfriend or wife sent these types of messages, listing her boundaries. Everyone says, "She is an empowered woman! She is setting the stage for what is and most importantly what is NOT acceptable behavior."

But if a guy sends a message like this? "He is a controlling jerk that hates women! How dare he do this. She should be allowed to live her life as she sees fit!"

Jonah needs to be more selective than most men. He's definitely in the category of a person who can pull lots of tail, because of his very large amount of resources. Being famous attracts predators and users. He doesn't want to be used. Can't fault him one bit for wanting to make sure any woman he settles down with is loyal and devoted to him. It isn't controlling to express your boundaries upfront and then give the person you're talking to the option of either respecting them or leaving your life.

Sometimes a partner might not be right for you because you can't respect their boundaries or they can't respect yours. Everyone has slightly different boundaries. If you aren't a good match due to different ideas about what boundaries should be, far better to know in the beginning and make your boundaries clear than to have secret boundaries in your head that only you are aware of them crossing. I bet women going forward who date Jonah Hill will learn from this public kerfuffle and be less likely to cross his boundaries. Hill being willing to walk away from a 25 year old supermodel is actually a big win for him.

He wrote it clear, concise, firm and fair. That is how someone is suppose to communicate. But if you fly off the handle about it. You are the problem. That may be why females aren't liking it.

I saw it on “the shade room” and the comments, amazingly, were entirely supportive of Hill, lots of “ain’t nobody need to see those messages” and “he’s just expressing boundaries” types of stuff. And yeah, he didn’t do fuckall wrong. He did exactly what they tell us they want lmao

Some of his boundaries are legit, such as “boundaryless inappropriate relationships with men.”

Others we don’t have enough context on, such as what the deal is with these female friends.

But the one that jumps out at me as problematic is actually the first one — she isn’t allowed to surf with men? She’s a professional surfer! That’s like telling a female accountant that she isn’t allowed to work in an office with male accountants.

So…that’s crazy.

Of course, Jonah’s been public about the fact that he has crippling anxiety, and so one can understand where these boundaries come from even while acknowledging that some of them go too far.

He’s allowed to set his boundaries. And she’s allowed to decide whether those boundaries are deal breakers for her.

I do think posting them publicly, years later and right after the birth of his child, is some petty, fucked up shit.

As an aside, I do think it’s funny when 40 year old men date 25 year old women — and then complain that their 25 year old girlfriend is acting like she’s 25.

I read some of the story and my take is he was manipulating this surfer girl to his advantage. Trying to set boundaries but it really sounded like he was trying to control her. I see him as the douche bag here. The girl seems pretty normal. He seems like a control freak. With self-esteem issues.

None of that is any of my business. Insecure partners shouldn't police the behavior of their significant others unless it negatively impacts them, but they don't have to pretend to like it either. Adorning pearl clutching displeasure in the patina of counseling language is lame, but so is petty public airing of grievances to deflate a happy moment in their life. Fact is, I've literally never heard of this person until this was amplified by Hill's celebrity, and if they thought this was their me-too moment, they've got the whole rest of their life to cringe at themselves for trying to wedge their high school B.S. into an important movement and zeitgeist. Hill isn't going to lose any work or fans because an anxious guy sent weirdly sensitive text messages about things he finds uncomfortable in a relationship. No smoking gun here. But please... please don't let Kanye release a statement on any of this.

Was talking about this and I’m mixed. Boundaries are about you and not about them. In reality, he should have broken up with her without going through a laundry list of things she must do to be with him. If she asks why, then he can tell her and let the onus be on her to try to adapt/change.

I just looked at it the reverse and if my girlfriend was like you can’t hang out with her, or do this, or that or we break up, I’d be like, yeah, controlling. If she said, I’m breaking up, and I was all, why, I can do whatever you want, I’ll never talk to her again, please please please, don’t leave me, then not controlling and I’m a pathetic simp.
