I don't particularly like my wife, I am definitely not in love with her, but I respect her and I trust her.

We live in the same apartment, sleep separately, we talk like acquaintances or colleagues. We have both left our country seven years ago (married 2 years before that) and moved to live in Western Europe. I'm 46, she's 36. We have a son, almost 5, who loves us both and spends time equally with each of us; my wife and I both work full time, getting paid reasonably well. We have separate budgets - her account is hers, mine is mine, whatever we have to spend on our kid, apartment, food, bills, any communal expense - we contribute in equal parts.

I am contemplating a divorce, because I think I might be missing out; because I think my marriage is functional but barren, it has no love, no companionship. But it has the convenience, and my son is happy.

The thought of even trying to build a family with another woman feels like a burden. Why even try? I don't believe it can work; it's my second marriage and my ended my first in a divorce. I don't care all that much about sex either.

My son loves me quite a lot, but he loves his mother too, maybe slightly less, but still. He likes it when we go someplace together, the 3 of us, but mostly it's him and me or him and my wife.

It would also be quite expensive to start living separately; we have a good interest rate mortgage, refinancing it will make it twice as expensive.

So, it kind of works - but not in a fun or pleasant way.

Any thoughts? Any advice?
