When people say sorry

I tell people I'm sorry they had to go through that and hope everything works out well.

Especially when they have kids and I know, like myself, they'll have to continue to deal with their ex for a long time.

Haven't heard of a single divorce that was easy and completely painless so I think sorry is justified.

When people say sorry, just say thank you. You don’t have to explain anything. If they have more questions or actually care they will ask.

Yeah it's a sad thing then again not. I hate it for my son his family was broken apart. It's not our fault his mother chose to make some decisions that had unintended consequences she was not expecting.

I won't be corralled, not going to be anyone's doormat.

She got what she wanted at the cost of her family.

Divorce is like a stain, it leaves a mark and whether it's good or not people just choose to see that stain. For that reason I dont think it's worth explaining that to people. If they have gone through it maybe you can relate, otherwise meh it's none of their business.

One good thing that I have that other people don't is that now I see people's relationship dynamics and how they struggle to keep it together. Not saying that everyone is struggling but a lot of people are. They try to fill it with random boring hobbies while your horizon is wide open. Just think about that... But again, that's their business and yours is yours 🤷‍♂️

My dad is a heinous sex offender. When I tell people I have no relationship with him, they always say, "Oh I'm so sorry. That's got to be hard since you'll always love him."

Lolololol. I literally never even think about him. They just can't help but project their own circumstances.

Mine was finalized on 4/29. I changed my Facebook profile pic to Mel Gibson as William Wallace from Braveheart with the caption, "FREEEEDOOOOM!" Then I created a life event that said I was Divorced. Then as the first comment I posted this emoji: 🥳. And to top it off I clicked the ❤️ reaction.

And I still got a couple, "I'm sorry"s. Like, really? The lying, cheating, leech is gone. Celebrate my victory with me! I'm a freaking one man parade here, throwing candy to my friends and neighbors, sitting on the back of a convertible with a Burger King crown on my head.

I get that a lot. I just respond with "oh, well I not!" And depending who it is, I'll laugh or show a big smile. People just don't know how to respond to that kind of news and it's best to let them know.

I’ve always taken it as “sorry you wasted such a big chunk of your life on a narcissistic cheater.”

Like, I’m sure as hell not sorry I got divorced, but I’m sorry that I didn’t recognize her for what she was sooner, I’m sorry I married her in the first place and I’m sorry about the devastation she caused to me, our kids, our friends and everyone else impacted by her insane antics.

Well, when you take into account kids. It has a different ring to it.

I don’t think any of us here had kids to be exchanging them in parking lots once a week etc.

That is madness…but I suppose it’s the best we can do.

I do not grieve over not having an ungrateful person in my life. I grieve over seeing our kids have to go through this.

If only I would have known, I would have left her at the alter and not think twice of it.

I'm happy you're enjoying your life post divorce. Lots of us experienced the divorce as the worst thing that we've ever experienced. That lens is the lens these apologies come from. I doubt they're trying do anything other than empathize with their personal experience or as bystanders in other horrible divorces.
