It bothers me how obsessed the director is with showing characters that are supposed to be TEENS naked. Although, I really liked how it portrays how damaging porn is and the ways sex is viewed by younger people, for example guys thinking girls like being choked and rough and girls thinking that’s what you tolerate to make a guy like you.

There is nothing "high school" about Euphoria.

It's way too unrealistic, downright pornographic and sexualizes minors every second.

It only got popular because Zendaya is the main lead. That's a fact.

I think the director is obsessed with seeing the actresses tits. I also guess it’s about time naked men are shown in TV since it maybe will help paint the picture to men that it’s not necessary but I heard that the dicks are prosthetics so it’s like why do the women have to bare all but the guys get to technically “hide” their nudity?

I think the show honestly is portraying drugs and sex in a glamorized way for teens

Multiple actors have flagged they were uncomfortable with Sam Levinson’s original writing of the scene, being too geared toward nudity, pornography & paedophilia. The interviews did say the writer changed the scenes for the actors, but it just shows the writers intentions.

I think it’s an interesting watch cinematically, but like many/most TV productions, I don’t agree with the internalised misogyny that is so prevalent throughout it. I don’t think it does enough to show the dangers of Pickme-ism, early porn usage, & abusive relationships.

It could make some interesting points if it wasn't basically sexualizing high schoolers and showing characters for the male gaze. People need to realize we don't need to show sex to get some point across, especially when the characters are MINORS. The more I grow up, the more I feel that is incredibly gross. It's like the show lacks self-awarenessto realize it's doing what it's supposedly against: turning the characters into objects.

The dedication to cinematography is phenomenal but it feels disgusting to watch since the characters are meant to be a bunch of high schoolers. Same for the netflix series "sex education." There's a gratuitous amount nudity, which is usually the case for HBO series but excessive and has so little to do with the plot line. Knowing what there is to know about the creator and director of the show, it seems plainly obvious that it's meant to cater to a male gaze in the worst possible way, however.

The writer/director/producer is a narcissist with a fetish for Zendaya. Did you see that movie he also wrote/directed where she plays his wife? It’s basically the burning trash that is his marriage because he’s abusive, plus it tokenises the Black experience. It was weird watching his dirty laundry and how abusive men are aware of how awful they are and still make a whole movie about it. Super cringe.

Not gonna lie, all my friends rave about this show - however I think I’m too uncomfortable watching teenage characters sexualized to the extent in which I’ve heard. I understand tackling important issues are necessary and I think most of the actors are my age or older (I’m almost 23), however I worry about the execution. & I also think the content may be triggering for abuse survivors like me. But I don’t know, some people say it’s really good and others seem to get the same icky feeling I do.

It's trash. The narrator is an idiot, and the show doesn't make it obvious enough. It does nothing but give harmful messages to impressionable youth and glamorise harmful behaviours, because that's how it pulls in viewers. The fact that it pretends to be progressive and sophisticated while having a regressive impact on the viewers is the icing on the cake.

I don't watch it but have seen it around Youtube. It is set in high school but nobody is studying shit, kids dressed in extremely sexy clothing, drugs, sex, porn, violence, toxic "love", neglectful parents.

I get it, it is realistic life experience for some kids - but didn't we see this already in 145366778666 other dramas and movies produced by Hollywood? It is nothing new.

If anything it ain't gonna teach the teen viewers anything, just encourage them to emulate what the characters are doing in real life - aka more sex more drugs more toxic "love". And fight for the bad boy's coz he "needs to be saved by love".

I have such conflicted feelings about this show.

I think ultimately it is a good show that does a good job of being emotionally truthful but the nudity is so unnecessary this season. Like, just pan the camera up and in. We don't always need to see it all. We know what is there.

I haven't watched it - I've only seen the advertisements for it and I was extremely, extremely turned off by it. A lot of sexualization of younger girls - and for entertainment I just don't think that's okay because there are too many girls and guys out there thinking that's okay. Reading the comments here I'm glad I haven't seen it.

Honestly it's nothing special.

A typical "gritty" teen/young adult show has:

far too many main characters and can barely focus on one for more than two episodes
shows tons of sex with no mention of condoms or BC
girls not reporting sexual violence for at least HALF a season
gratuitous drug use that is fairly glamorized (I mean come on, many drug use scenes have poppin' music and gorgeous camera work)
somebody always dies, by suicide, drugs, or violence (yes we GET IT, those are statistically the most common causes of teen deaths) and other characters' grief is forgotten after a season

Anything else I'm missing?

I just started watching it a few weeks ago. I don’t think it glamorizes the use of drugs, drinking or sex to be honest. Most situations maybe start that way but there have been really serious consequences for everyone. Zendaya’s character has had some incredibly serious consequences for her drug use. If I was a teen, I think this show would’ve scared the shit out of me, not made me want to do those things more.

Personally I found S1 hard to watch but I also didn’t know what I was getting into then. S2 I found much more enjoyable since I had an idea of what to expect… I like the show for the way certain serious topics are portrayed and the conversation I’ve seen it start.

There’s a lot that would NOT happen in high school (hopefully) but I just add that to the theatrical nature of the show.

It's a list of what not to do. It makes good points occassionally, for eg when Lexi talks about the effects of technology and how it can be manipulated in the future. And then goes back to regular problematic bs.

My major issue is the nudity. I think as a culture we should recognise that nudity is never central to the story. This season they decided to be 'feminist' and show male genitalia as well. Honestly, I wanted to throw up.

There are a few great characters and storylines.

Kat didn't have a storyline for this season, the actress who plays her voiced her opinions on the character's progression. They were going down the typical 'fat girl eating disorder route'. What really annoyed me was how they always showed her eating in her free time. As if she's not a human being who is capable of functioning without stuffing her mouth.

Honestly, Nate Jacobs is a great example of a ZVM. He is abusive, angry and a bully. I hate him.

Cassie belongs in the pickme hall of fame (you can decide what I eat?🤮). She's done no work on herself and has always relied on external validation for her self worth.

I love Maddie even though she's problematic, she does stand up for herself and in this season is putting herself first. Recognising the toxic relationship she shared and trying to move on.

I mean Rue is Rue so whatever. She's had the most boring and predictable storyline of all.

For me Lexi and Fez was a cute dynamic, yet I couldn't really root for them since at the end of the day he is a drug dealer. Better than the rest, but still a drug dealer.
