I’m really struggling with the battle within myself and would love some advice.

I met a guy via OLD a few weeks ago. Last week, he asked me out for dinner (COVID safe in my city. He was tested and I have my vaccine) and I was so excited. I had not been asked out on a proper date in so long. We met for dinner and it went great. He did not hesitate to pay when the check came. After dinner he asked if I wanted to go get a drink and I said yes. We drove separately to a bar close by. This bar had all their tables socially distanced and the bartenders came to you. It was very nice and safe. We were able to just sit and chat and we did for about 2 more hours. Once again he paid without hesitation.

Now here’s where I disappointed myself.

I invited him back to my place. I didn’t have to. I could have ended the night right there and things would have been great. I have no doubt in my mind that he would have asked me out again. Instead, I made the suggestion. He never even hinted at it. It was all me.

So we go back to my place, and decide to play Mario Kart. He still had not kissed and was being incredibly respectful. So what did I do? I got flirty. I made a joke about him not kissing me yet. So he kissed me. I could have stopped it there. He was not pushy at all. He asked for consent before taking my shirt off, pants off, etc. Even asked for consent before “putting it in.” (I’ve never had a guy do that before). After we had sex, I expected him to leave, but he didn’t. He stayed for another hour or so, just chatting and getting to know each other more. He even mentioned that he didn’t expect that of me. He said he only expected dinner and everything after (even just drinks) was special.

I am so mad at myself. I had a good guy, who didn’t expect sex at all, who was nothing but sweet and considerate, and I egged it on. I don’t know if it’s because that is what I have gotten used to so I just assumed that’s what was going to happen or if I have a problem. Parts of me feel like I have to be overly sexual for approval. I think it stems from being someone who looks way younger than my age, it’s a big insecurity.

I guess I’m just kind of lost. He came over again tonight, but it was more of a booty call. He did stay after for another hour and we just got to know each other more. But I gave him this image of me, and so that is what he sees me as.

Has anyone else dealt with this? It’s like my brain doesn’t know how to accept that a man may genuinely just want to take me to dinner without any expectations beyond that. Due to my relationship trauma and toxic past I have a tough time with self worth and trust.

I really just felt the need to let all this out and get advice from some wonderful women. If you took the time to read this, thank you. I am trying to recover from my toxic relationships, but I never expected it to be this tough.
