The 1st issue, She expressed a horribly painful experience and this NV downplayed it and changed the subject. He can't even pretend to have empathy for and be supportive to the woman he is interested in? This is a huge indicator that someone will not be a good partner.

The 2nd issue, He's trying to insult a man who has tragically passed away and treated her well? This is absolutely disturbing. He doesn't even have the decency to say nothing. If a man acts like this, you will eventually become the one he is insulting- because this is how he sees everyone (as something to compete with).

I really hope she drops this man. One thing I will say from my experience is that when you are a nice, caring and empathetic person, it's really hard to imagine that another person could actually be mean and cruel. Unfortunately, you learn the hard way. This is why a lot of women keep giving a man the benefit of the doubt because they don't think like that, so they cannot fathom that he would intentionally act/think like that.

So I've had two boyfriends in my life. The first one was a really awesome dude. We were together when we were robbed and I watched him be shot to death. I was the sole witness to his murder and had to go through a lengthy trial. My ex-husband literally could not handle this part of me and was actively cruel about it. I was not allowed to talk about him and within the first year of our relationship he ended up throwing out a bunch of first boyfriends things I kept because he "needed to organize the closet, I thought you would like it" (spoiler; he never fucking cleaned). When he was angry it would be the first thing he would attack me on saying that I got him killed. Since then I have told other men and not one of them has behaved this way. Definitely, lvm will always feel that they are competing with a dead man. It's pathetic.

Generally, a man who talks negatively about a dead or ill person in your life is showing you he lacks empathy. You may think his lack of empathy isn’t directed at you. But trust that one day, it will be.

Edit: When my NVX said my dying acquaintance who posted about it on social media to inform people was just “looking for attention,” it told me everything I needed to know about his lack of character and low empathy. The guy I’m kind of seeing now had heard of my late husband's business and apparently asked around a bit about him, and has said nothing but respectful things about him. He actually admires how successful my husband was, and that he built his business from literally scratch. He said what impresses him most is how my late husband made sure that I’d be provided for for the rest of my life because that’s what men are supposed to do.
