I bet the boyfriend is someone who lacks the emotional intelligence to understand she is just upset and needs to rant so he tells her she is irrational and overdramatic when she is experiencing emotions. Someone who tells her to "just calm down" because "it's not a big deal" when she is visibly upset.

Yes I do have emotions. Yes sometimes things bother me. Yes sometimes I need to rant. This doesn't make me permanently unable to use logical reasoning. Scrotes out there not understanding that emotional intelligence and logical reasoning aren't mutually exclusive make me mad 🙄

I just finished watching "The Vow" series about the NXIVM cult. And one episode focused on how they were training all the women into believing that they were emotionally irrational...among other things. Like these women were deadass apologizing for expressing their emotions in the middle of conversations. Treating it like it's some maladaptive behavior that men are conveniently immune from. That whole series was a wild ride and there's a lot to unpack, but I cannot believe that grown people (who are very much not in a cult) still buy into this archaic thinking. How are we not past this?
