Why is that inanity so popular with dumbasses-? I am aware of a US DJ and a US politician losing their jobs because they thought that inanity was the height of wit, and used it in public (one on the airwaves, one at a rally or during an interview, can't recall now). But the US men committed public stupidity back in the 1970s ! To do this in 2021 suggests a special kind of tonedeaf stupidity.

They literally just want to be given the freedom and equality that their constitution claims they have. Then you have these garbage men with these disgusting views in power. India would be better off with modern, educated women making the laws and these men thrown in the gutters.

I lived in India in the late 80s as a college exchange student. It was a year of constantly being grabbed and one flat-out attempted rape (by a pilot in uniform). The theory back then (worldwide) was that women shouldn't fight back because they might make the man mad and he might hurt you. Well I had grown up with a lot of brothers so I decided I couldn't follow that advice. I would not only fight back, I would punish them. So if I was grabbed, I'd turn around and sock the man in his face! They were always so shocked they immediately backed off. And I knew all the cuss words in their language so I would start shouting and causing a scene. I always got away with it, I guess because I was in public. I never went in a bus because I was told I would be raped. So I bought a moped to get around. Women driving was technically legal back then but it still wasn't socially acceptable. Men would try to cut me off and sometimes they'd throw things at me or try to grab me. (I wore Indian women's clothes so they knew I was a woman). I told that story to a man once and he asked why I didn't wear men's clothes. I told him "Fuck that! Those men needed to get used to the idea that women were going to drive and not cause us to cower and just stay home, in purdah (seclusion)." So the man was victim-blaming. He didn't understand me at all!

So I needed some decent books for my studies but the bookshops at the college were shit. So someone told me about a guy who had foreign textbooks (mostly from England) at his house. I went there and indeed, he did have good stuff. So I was trying to select what I wanted but he kept grabbing me. I would take my arm and whack his arm every time he did it. The thing is, I really needed those books! So I just kept trying to select the books while fighting him off! At some point i gave up and just left. So I came back with my boyfriend and he had to literally block the grabs as I selected the books I needed! And that happened once on a train. It was nighttime and I had fallen asleep across his lap. But he couldn't sleep the whole night. He had to stay awake to block the grabs. Can you fucking believe that?

One time I was chased on the streets by a group of men on mopeds. I had a woman friend on the back of the moped so it was dragging down my speed. I was seriously afraid because I was told not to go to a police hut on the side of the road because then you would be gang raped. So I was trying to just get away and I saw a herd of sheep and was able to get in front of them and then the sheep blocked the road in back of me! It was an Indiana Jones-type move! It was awesome. I even turned around to laugh at the men!!

The scariest time where I was almost raped happened when I went to an airport cargo terminal alone. I went to the counter and didn't see anyone (rare for India) so I walked into the terminal. There were pallets stacked with burlap sacks everywhere (that's how they wrapped packages back then). There wasn't a soul in there and then all of a sudden a pilot appeared and tried to grab me by my shoulders. He was taller than me so I was scared. I realized he was going to throw me on one of the pallets of sacks. I fought him off (I don't think he expected that, that I could be so rough) and I was able to run. He chased me but I got away. I found a guy at the ticket counter and told him my story. He just laughed. And then I sucked it up and bought the ticket for my parcel and left. Indian men are so fucked up.

I’m Indian (although I don’t live in India). Unfortunately, in my community, women aren’t treated as human beings but as servants or objects. They’re expected to do all the housework while their husbands don’t even lift a finger to aid them. They’re expected to stay with their husbands even when their husbands abuse/cheat on them based on the flawed belief that it is the woman’s job to hold a family together. Victim-blaming is also rife, where women who are sexually assaulted are shamed instead of their abusers. My own father said that I was “broken goods” because I was sexually assaulted, as if I was a defective object. My family blamed me for being sexually assaulted and said that I should “learn from the mistake” I made.

I think the reason men in my community are like this is because their mothers coddle them too much. Their mothers are almost fanatical in defending them, ensuring that they never learn from their errors. Their mothers will also keep their wives in check by demeaning the wife if she (god-forbid) has her own will.
