Hormonal birth control badly affects my depression. I realized it and went off the pill forever about four years ago.

I spent a couple more years with dudes mansplaining the availability of lower-hormone options, feeling like I was being selfish by not trying them and still insisting on condoms. Eventually I got clear about the fact that yes, it’s possible I would not experience the same side effects with Mirena or what have you, but it is not worth even risking months of severe depression just to see if I can get some guy’s enjoyment of my pussy up from a 9 to a 10! I have things to do!!! Lol. As of about 18 months ago, it’s not condoms “just for now” for me, it’s condoms until time to make babies. Did I stutter?

This has been AMAZING for weeding out guys with bad attitudes who are good at putting up a front at first.

I know it’s a really old timey option, but I used a diaphragm for years and never got pregnant. This was during a marriage that I thought was monogamous (hahahaha) so we didn’t use condoms.

But it was pretty easy to use, and effective.

If a dude pressures you into it, tell him to read it before you'll consider BC. There's a fair bit of research in there about women losing their sex drive, motivation to look good, attraction for their partners...

Raise your hand if birth control destroys your sex drive so you can't even take advantage of it, but if you go off it your acne is so bad you feel too ugly for sex anyways. Cannot win.

My body and mind respond horribly to birth control so I’m just getting a tubal ligation. It was still not easy to find a doctor who’d perform one on a woman in her 30s though.

Because of lockdown I decided to go off BC cos me and my SO aint seeing each other for who knows. TBH I felt my cycle, ovulation = horny and generally uncomfortable, week before = HUNGRY AND SAD, period = Worst cramps i've had in years. So I had 1 week of feeling relatively balanced. BC Is my saviour. I'm back on it after a month. Also BC got rid of my PMDD.

BUTTTTT I have multiple friends who've been left to bleed or with serious side effects for MONTHS because the NHS refused to take out their BC (Implant, coil etc). I will never get BC that I can't control. Don't ever put your BC in the hands of someone else!

I got a Liletta (hormonal IUD) put in when my LVM ex and I started to get serious.

The pain for me wasn't too bad - the dr even had to do it twice because the arms didn't deploy the first time. I bled for 3 months straight, but now that it's settled in to it's new home, I barely even have a period anymore. No side effects that I've noticed.

I'm glad I have it, because now that it's in, I don't have to worry about getting pregnant anymore, but if I had to do it again (especially after realizing my ex was LVM), I probably would've stuck to condoms/abstinence.

I got an IUD a year ago to manage some uncomfortable periods, and not only did it make my depression worse, it also made it impossible to lose any weight; I had made really significant progress that has now been completely erased. It also made my PMS worse, which is part of the reason I even got it in the first place. I’m not even sexually active anymore, so there’s no point in suffering for no reason. I’m never using hormonal birth control again; I’m getting that sucker out next week.

My idiot gynecologist, prescribed me birth control pills when I was in high school and not active to "Treat" my PCOS...it did nothing but mask my symptoms and give me severe mood swings and depression. PSA there is nothing natural about tricking your body into thinking its pregnant when it is not. Women are meant to align with our cycles...birth control is a mans invention and only a solution for taking away women's natural gifts.

I've been on birth control for about 10 years now and havent had these issues. If you are experiencing side effects talk to your dr or look into other forms of birth control..

If you're sleeping with a man make sure he wears a condom. Dont fall for the excuses "its uncomfortable for me or kills my pleasure" yeah well having a kid could tear my vagia to my anus and have a big hole... that would kill my pleasure!!!

I stopped telling guys I'm on the pill and lie and say im not. If they give me bs about condoms im out!

I bleed constantly and unnaturally on birth control. Off of it I have the most regular and short cycles. I haven't dated anyone in about two years, but I'm definitely not going back on it. Condoms with pulling out 100%.

I came off the pill for this too, and stupidly got the Mirena... one of the worst decisions I’ve made. My skin has been AWFUL for a solid two years now, I get the worst cramps and have had 2 visits to the hospital to check out said cramps etcetc.

All cus I knew guys would refuse to use condoms.... just why!

BC definitely isn't for everyone, but I've been on it for almost 10 years to manage hormonal acne and PMS and am really happy with it. I was more depressed, bloated, and acneic in the few periods that I decided to try coming off BC. Sometimes your body's natural state isn't at its peak performance and medicine can help you feel better, nothing to be ashamed of!
