You're onto something important there, it just doesn't reinforce your original idea. We can agree that the particular woman's self-designation is anecdotal, but most could also agree she probably considers herself a feminist. Her way of thinking doesn't exist in isolation from feminism.
But your main point isn't (shouldn't be) whether or not she's a feminist. It's that she's a silly marker to exacerbate and measure feminism by. We contend with the strongest possible version of the idea, not the weakest one.
Reddit isn't great at that. You might think a sub dedicated to someone who so explicitly stands for it would be different. But no, not if it's a big sub. The lowest common denominator gets the most upvotes, and here, that's circlejerking over what dumb or obviously malicious people said.
So you get a disproportionate amount of downvotes, for going against the grain on yet another piece of outrage content. But I also think you went against that grain in the wrong way.

I think it points out that any demonstration of men in a positive light will be followed closely by someone throwing dirt all over it and saying how men are still bad and then destroy the whole thing.
Turning every situation into a feminist rant. From "Little kid does something nice", to "Men are still garbage because of anicdotal evidence".
This is important because it shows that men are being attacked and being turned into the villain everywhere. Change the pronouns in the story and see if people still think it is ok. Men, especially straight white men are being cast as pure evil, 100% of them, so it doesn't matter what the person does, if they are white and a straight man then they are already guilty of just being a bad person. That is a slippery slope that we have seen before

The comment didn't compare the 17 year old to Hitler. The comment used Hitler as an example of the idea that if you do some good things you can get away with doing other bad things.
They compared the evaluation of the kid's business to the evaluation of Hitler. Just because Hitler is in the same paragraph doesn't mean the two are being compared.

many people see it as a product that’s marketed toward people who are insecure about their masculinity. it’s reinforcing the idea that regular candles are too girly and that men shouldn’t enjoy the smell of flowers or whatever because it’s not manly enough. i’m happy for the kid for having a successful idea at such a young age, but i have no interest in burning a candle to make my house smell like bacon or whatever and i have no problem admitting that i love the smells of pumpkin spice or roses.
