I thought about organising aid specifically for the men that have to remain, basically an emergency manpower reserve, so that there is no public "omg he dares to take food donations" kind of bs.

Meanwhile do everything to stay mentally sane right now. Go for those stupid mental health walks, flail around in bed like a fish, acquire a regular masturbation cycle, do things like staying neat and tidy to create a space where the world seems whole and ordered, to contrast with the disorder and chaos outside.

And take what you need from charitable supplies. If people flip you off insist on your human right to, you know, survive? Everybody else is allowed to leave so why shouldn't you take something? Youtuber Karolina Zebrowska from Poland reports in one of her videos (with self-filmed footage) that sometimes certain products in stores are just sold out because people keep donating them, especially sanitary products. She also includes footage of a train station with people waiting for news and people offering shelter.

Also if you would manage to slip across the border somehow, all EU countries will take you WITHOUT a visa. Proof that you're Ukrainian will certainly be of use in this. Speaking English even more so. I live in Germany and we have a spare room should the need arise, however at the moment our government is worning out ways to accomodate people without the need for charitable citizens. We pay enough taxes to expect the functioning social systems and humanitarian efforts we are getting.

And note that this is the biggest event in probably all of human history when it comes to charity donations. Tons of money, food, clothing etc. is being sent your way. I hope it will also find its way to you!

I have hear many other nationalitis who tried to come to Ukraine to fight, were said "you are not enough experienced, go home" So yes, they do not take whatever guys there, they need experience because a rookie maybe be a risk to the whole group.

In my country there are several charities for animals in Ukraine, but nobody cares about the soldiers, or at least about those who got wounded. We can throw away the idea of equality, because this clearly showed that it does not exist in Europe. Also, the women that leave Ukraine will never come back - they will try to get a western man and stay in Europe. We have a lot of lonely men here who would take any woman, as long as she's pretty. So, women will be fine. *I don't judge them, if I was hot I would do the same. But whenever I read that women are the most affected, I just want to leave this planet.

Thank you for sharing this. I really feel like your leadership is at fault here. It's like they're trying to turn Ukranian men into cannon fodder. They can't do that. They should let the ones that the army won't recruit leave ffs. So many families are being ripped apart and destroyed needlessly because of this ridiculously stupid decision. Leave any way you can. Even if it means illegally through somewhere else. Heck run the other way into Russia, bet they'll have more sympathy for you than your own government. Good luck!

I am heartbroken over Ukraine’s civilian’s situation and hope you stay safe.

i have a question for you if you have time ( will ignore non Ukrainian answers).

A lot of people, (especially in the global south where i live and non aligned countries who traditionally like both Ukraine and Russia) think that sending arms to Ukraine is causing it to be destroyed. Meaning, it is prolonging a bloody invasion that can’t ultimately be turned back, only slowed, because if Russia gets frustrated, it can just flatten cities with hypersonic missiles, air power, and they don’t mind losing soldiers etc. So it just delays the eventual peace deal. Of course, such people still condemn the invasion and want to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine though.

But I want to ask if there is this view in Ukraine? Do people fight just out of patriotism but know it won’t be won if the war keeps ratcheting up? Do they feel peace talks will succeed soon?

Or do they think they can somehow kill enough russian soldiers to make them retreat?

Or maybe they stopped caring and just fight out of honor? Thanks.

The most funny thing - our army is oversaturated and refuses to take everyone without military experience. It makes no sense.

This something I had pointed out in one of my comments a few days back.

The modern military machinery is too complex to be operated safely by an untrained draftee.

The male-only draft only leads to unarmed men being stranded on the battlefield with no or minimal humanitarian aid...

The idea that untrained, inexperienced men will just pick a machine gun and start shooting like a pro happens only in movies....

In real life, draft is not helpful at all. And if your country truly has come to the point where you need draft to salvage a war, then you have already lost the war.

I see the men's rights crisis in Ukraine continuing well past the war.

Many of the single women who fled the country will stay in Poland or other European countries. Ukrainian funds will be directed at women in hopes of bringing them back. But it'll compete with European funds for refugees. Dating in a country full of dudes will be hell and the way that men's PTSD will be blamed on them just like all men's mental health is treated. Etc.

Ukraine will be a topic on this sub for at least a decade.

Back in the day women stayed in the country too. They would be spoils of war to the invaders should their country fail. Along with the men dying, this was a consequence of war.

But we have removed that consequence of war from women by allowing them to flee the nation. And having neighboring nations accept these women with open arms. But the consequences for men are still intact. Even if they aren't fighting they are required to stay in the country and starve and die for a government that has no problem stabbing them in the back and taking away their rights to try and survive!

Goes back to the one of the central themes that keeps coming up with Gender roles and responsibilities being intact for men, but removed completely for women. No matter how bad or dire times get, women cannot be asked to sacrifice. Women don't have to show any loyalty to their country. They fled the nation and some may never return. While men are forced to stay, suffer and possibly expire. Many of them not even contributing to the war effort. Is this the "patriarchy" that women complain about? The same patriarchy that prioritizes female comfort and safety over male lives?

Unfortunately, we live in the world where men are the second class citizens who don't deserve to live. It's unbelievably sad that so many men believe they are worth less than women and they shame another men for wanting to change that, for not accepting this state of affairs. I believe the main reason for the ban is the 'ladies first' rule. They want to help as many women as possible at the expense of men who they treat as disposable. I deeply deplore this barbaric belief.

First of all, no one forces us to fight, at least directly, only through shame and everyday news about how many men have returned to our country to fight and even a few stories about minor that came to volunteer, but despite this fact we are still banned from leaving.

Okay, so basically they are forcing you into a corner to fight now that you have no choice to be able to escape. What is the view of Ukrainian men of 'fighting age' on this situation of being unable to leave and pressured into fighting? We haven't heard from them, we have only heard about the ambitions of Zelenskyy, who is apparently the one that gave the order in the first place to ban men 18 to 60 from leaving the country.

Every men that dare to took humanitarian aid (food) claimed as the worst creature in the world. Even through official evacuation from the hottest spots males have the lowest priority or simply don't have one (no jokes). It's just an agonizing oxymoron.

Who is the person giving the order to shame men that try to look for humanitarian aid, because obviously someone gave the order to prioritize "women and children" for humanitarian aid?

Even if these men aren't directly forced into fighting, they are put in harms way by being prevented from leaving.

Recently, Zelenskyy banned "opposition media" (which included leftists and socialist groups but apparently didn't include neo nazi groups) and consolidated tv channels to 'combat misinformation'https://deadline.com/2022/03/ukraine-president-vologymyr-zelensky-combines-all-national-tv-channels-to-combat-alleged-misinformation-1234982814/, which is a common tactic during war time to clamp down on anti war protests or dissension to policies carried out by the government and military. Debs in World War I and how Woodrow Wilson had him jailed for speaking out against the war).

Again, what is the general view of Ukrainian men that are forced to stay in Ukraine on this situation?

I guarantee you people do care. I am in Canada and everybody I know is absolutely disgusted with what is happening to you.

However, most of us feel relatively powerless to help. We can send money, food, etc., but NATO has resolutely made a decision to send weapons, but not get involved yet.

Canada has some of the most Ukrainians in the world outside of europe. One of my best friend's is Ukrainian. Every single Ukrainian Canadian i know vehemently wants to murder putin. But how can they help YOU?

Your fellow countrymen, i guarantee, they have their hands full.

I believe you need to do what you believe is right, and what you need to survive. If you flee as a refugee, or fight and die, or do what you need to survive, it's up to you.

Don't give up brother. You do not deserve this, and I believe the entire western world knows this. We are all angry. Remember Russia has nukes pointed as us too. That scares us... I sincerely hope that NATO steps in eventually.

Lots of countries are sending aid. Millions and millions of dollars.

Last thing. Just survive. This will end eventually!

Eventually , I expect there will be negotiations and Russia will annex the newly independent territories , the border will be re drawn on the map . It looks like Zelensky is deliberately dragging his feet on peace talks to support USA foreign policy decision to make Ukraine into the new Afghanistan. Ukraine will be destroyed into shit now so that USA can give money and weapons to far right "freedom fighters" to commit terrorist acts in Ukraine and Russia. Same as they did in Afghanistan 40-50 years ago. They will destroy the country to make it a chaotic mess so that Russia will be hurt by these "freedom fighters" the same way they said the Taliban were "freedom fighters" 40-50 years ago.

If they get their way Ukraine will be a bombed out basket case failed state and the men who aren't neo-Nazis now will be forced to work with them by the USA and pretty much slaughtered by the Russians for a decade or two until they get better at being terrorists. Again same as Afghanistan.
