Every time there's a public debate on male/female differences in career preferences or cognitive skills like that one sparked by the google memo, I can't help but think that it's basically a diversion to not address the real gender difference which is in sexual desire. Said difference has two logical consequences:

  1. In relationships men tend to trade resources (material and social ones) in exchange for sex while women tend to trade sex in exchange for resources. It's quite an uncomfortable truth for a society that pretendes men and women are on the same playing field when it comes to dating/relationships.
  2. Women are increasingly becoming financially independent and they don't see the need for a providing beta husband/partner like they used to. Lower class women will opt for the welfare state as their provider while upper class women will froze their eggs, focus on their career and later in life choose a high value sperm donor to have kids and raise them as single mother by virtue of their financial independency and their kids will provide the emotional needs instead of a husband/partner.

Regardless of how you feel about these implications, there's a tangible chance that men and women will become increasingly estranged from each other and this is something our society doesn't want to talk about.
