No idea whether it was OF or not, but I had a neighbor who regularly paid for cam girls in general. Unfortunately he was quite noisy, which is how I know (but he was noisy about pretty much everything tbf, not just that stuff. If he was awake he was making noise constantly and did not seem to understand the concept of headphones or volume control).

He was also very, very far outside the norm as a person in general, though. Why did he purchase an OnlyFans subscription: All I know is why she thought he did it, and I have no idea if any of those reasons were accurate or not, so I won't speculate since you're clearly looking for hard data here

No, but I used to date a woman who had a fairly popular Onlyfans.

Here are my observations:

A significant portion of her fanbase were local. She had a popular cosplaying Instagram account, and built the OF from that user base - people who went to cosplay conventions in nearby cities etc. I'd guess 25% of her subscribers lived within a 100 mile radius.

A surprising number of her subscribers were already in relationships. I'd guess that figure at about 25% too.

Most subs would pay the bare minimum for a subscription. Only a few would exceed that, but those who did tended to exceed it by a lot.

The appeal (and why people are willing to pay, as opposed to consuming free porn) is the personal touch. She texted with subscribers every night, which made it more of a parasocial "girlfriend experience" than regular porn.

This is actually less outlandish than you think.

The golden age of "free porn" actually ended a while ago. Most girls with any talent (or looks) no longer go straight to agencies. So the quality of free porn has gone down as girl gate keeps their own content.

It doubly so ended when pornhub purged something like half of their content that they couldn't verify age/ownership of.

So if a woman is in porn today, it's usually because she cannot make it in only fans.

Similarly women only do free porn with small clips as a way to advertise their OF.

Long point short is that "free porn" has gotten infinitely worse due to women leaving for OF.

I have one subscription currently. There have been a few in the past. I do it because I am particularly attracted those individuals and/or like their content.

To the first point, unless you see women as interchangeable, you're going to develop particular tastes. You could deny what you really want and stick with the free stuff. But to me, it's like why am I making money in the first place if not to use it to get what I really want? It's why we order the IPA instead of the bud light; why we buy the Benz instead of the Civic.

To the second, while it isnt often discussed this way, making porn is an inherently creative act. Some creators are more talented than others. There have been countless times I've seen a really hot person in porn but after a minute I have to admit the video is boring. So when I find someone who consistently drops fire, not only do i not want to miss it, I want to actively support their career.

Another question is do any of yall use the more expensive subscriptions that involve being able to chat to the content creator?

I've never spoken to an OF creator unless I knew them IRL. It pays to know the difference between fantasy and reality.

I was at a very dark place in my life a few years ago and decided to see an escort. As I was browsing escort ads, they'd all have an onlyfans, and I'd click the link. I ended up subscribing for a month to 2 of them for 7$ each, and spent another about 10$ on there, and then I actually saw one of them for 400$. Have not visited OF before or since. But it made me better understand how and why it makes so much money:

A significant amount of it is just local guys subscribing to local escorts and strippers. Part of OF's revenue is just tips and cancellation fees related to sex work. Not the full payment for doing the deed; but ancillary payments.

Also, I have to admit there was some fun stuff on there. I could see how a person could get into paying for "Dick Ratings" and even Custom Videos. Big OF models are likely terrible, and their page maintained by staff who are probably men. But again a lot of it is local escorts and local strippers, and just random small OF models and cam girls. I don't think its entirely nonesense for a guy to say he gets something from OF that he couldnt get from free porn. It's transactional, and it's parasocial, but it's something distinct from porn.

I have never paid a single penny for porn in my life. I get nothing out of the parasocial relationship people have or imagine to have with their content creators. Not on social media and not for porn creators. I am basically immune to social media/social porn (is that a term yet?). I also require to be desired by women for things other than money. So any kind of monetary transaction kills everything for me, unless i am already sure there is desire for me, like in a romantic relationship. Couldn't do prostitutes/escorts for the same reason.

I also do not know anyone who pays for onlyfans, but that could very well be hidden from me.

To start off, I've never purchased Onlyfans, or paid for cam shows. Don't know anyone that has, or at least if I do they haven't ever spoken about it to me or even insinuated the possibility.

I have however paid for in person services (lap dances at strip bars, "happy ending" massages, escorts). I can personally understand having vices, sex related and not, but as long as in person ones exist where I can get some in person, physical touch, I'm going to much prefer them. Touch deprivation I'm sure is one of the larger factors in my decisions.

I'm no longer that much of a consumer of porn videos. Some of the better ones I had bookmarked on various sites are gone after that purge, but I make due with the free ones. Also widen what I consume beyond free videos for porn into a variety of free erotic stories and hentai manga and hentai.

Also, although I haven't paid for OnlyFans I can see the appeal for some people, especially in the development of parasocial relations. Similarly I've watched clips and streams of certain Vtubers and haven't donated but can easily see how people who really get into particular Vtubers would.

In some ways I have a harder time really understanding long distance relationships especially where people rarely meet; intellectually to a degree I can but they are really too far away from anything I could imagine having any appeal to me.

I have not paid for it. There are a number of sites that publicly post OF videos that are supposed to be behind paywall.

The only pornographic materials that I have paid for are drawings and graphic arts that I’ve commissioned. My partner likes them too.
