I don’t just go out with random people so if someone’s first message was asking me for coffee I would say no. But I would probably say let’s get to know one another first.

I find pick up lines funny so I wouldn’t be bothered if a guy used one. I would comment about it being funny and then I would expect to go into the normal convo I would have had with the guy who brought up coffee.

Both situations for me would lead to the same result given that I’m attracted to both men.

If i am attracted to a guy I will probably still be attracted to him unless he says something really egregious.

I don't go out with random people. I also don't go out with pick-up artists. So yes, I've shut down men who just randomly ask me out. I also shut down men who have a whole verbal dance routine of bullshit they go through before randomly asking me out. I'm just not interested in random strangers, period.

Although, I respect the guy who just asks more than pick-up artists. I think of pick-up artists as pond scum trying to use well-worn psychological manipulation to get their dicks wet. It's gross and beneath dignity and respect.

When you're getting dozens of new messages a day the "hi how are you" ones really all start to blur together. So when a guy says something different I will be more interested because he seems creative. A good joke about something in my profile, a unique question, or even something like "would you rather fight 1 horse sized duck or 100 duck sized horses" is way way more engaging then another dude who's never met me before pretending he cares how I am.

I don't automatically accept men's advances just because they ask me out.

I reject dates if I'm not interested in the date and I'll suggest something that I'd actually want to do.

Many men get hysterical if you don't want to get coffee or go on a walk for a first date and I'll reject them for their reaction/behavior.

I've accepted dates, and then canceled/rejected men before going on the date because they get immediately sexual and disrespect my boundaries.

Personally, "chill and normal" and "being real" doesn't include either canned pick up lines or an immediate invitation to have coffee or whatever. How can someone know they'd even want to hang out/hook up with me without some casual interaction first? So no, I don't shut down men for talking to me like a "normal" human being.

Unless I'm just looking to get laid, it's a turn off when it's painfully obvious that the objective is to hook up based on physical attraction alone, and indicates a lack of discernment and/or a disregard for personality/character (i.e., as long as he finds her attractive, he'll fuck anything with a warm hole, which might as well be a watermelon that's been sitting in the sun).

I'm flattered when a guy thinks I'm hot but he needs to know that I'm a confident, gives-no-fucks, sarcastic, call-you-out-on-your-bullshit type of person so neither of us waste our time if that's not what he's looking for.

If your “normal” is off putting, then you might actually do better with a script. For guys with natural game, a high level of social awareness, and confidence, they typically read the room and know when to flirt and when to be direct. Calibrate accordingly

If I’m even a little interested in the guy, then I want to spend time with him and get to know him. So “wanna grab a drink” is all I need. I absolutely do not need any fancy line and I cannot even imagine why that would bother me. Only reason would be if I wasn’t into the guy at all.

I don't understand what you are saying, OP. ‘Hi, fancy a cup of coffee?' has nothing to do with talking "normal" if this is the very first thing you say to a stranger. You come off as totally socially inept at best and creepy at worst, so of course, most women (I assume) don't respond well to that kind of thing.

Of course, I do find pick up lines and copypasata messages terrible though and yes, I "appreciate" the man being "real" with me providing his "realness" is neither a creepy nor disrespectful personality.

My husband asked me out on a date to the movies and that worked out just fine.

Before that, when I was still single, a guy I saw regularly at the drive-thru asked me out after handing me my order and I said yes.

I legitimately cannot think of a time I rejected someone for asking me out normally.

I actually thought the way my husband did it was sweet. And when I think about it I still get butterflies. I was driving him home from a friend-group hangout and when he got out of the car he stopped and turned to me and asked if I wanted to go see a movie with him.

I still remember the expression on his face and his body language and the tone of his voice. Like I said, it gives me butterflies.
