However it's clear many people eventually end up loving one another in a more altruistic sense (not too different from how we might care about blood relatives or very close friends).

I'm sorry, but I've seen way too much of women (myself included) care taking men in ways that lead to the demise of their dreams, joy, career, and leaves them closer to the walking dead than if they spattered themselves in dirt and fake blood.

Women sacrifice themselves all the time for the men in their lives. And love men who are not ambitious and capable regularly.

This is an unhealthy dynamic no matter how you slice it and speaking of, plenty of men love their women as more than puppies to be possessed. Again. This is just someone's toxic picture of romance.

Red pillers are, on this topic, bullshit artists pretending that because men would like to think they'd step in front of a train for their woman, their love is deeper.

To which I can only say: you got a whole shit ton of trains just rampaging through your town on a killing spree? No. So shut the fuck up your love is more sacrificing. Reminds me of that meme men say they'd do anything for their woman, and she asks them to tidy up. And they are like, no I meant more like slay a dragon or take a bullet. You know, shit that never happens land.

Why? Cuz deep down they kinda know women and men in healthy dynamics love each other pretty similarly. But that doesn't explain why women won't marry some broke incompetent, so they try to suggest it's cuz women won't sacrifice like the men ready to fight a dragon.

It seems like you're conflating love and relationships. You can have unconditional love within a conditional relationship.

I love my friends. Nothing brings me joy like seeing them happy and cared for. However, if my friend began on a self destructive downward spiral. If they refused any help or assistance. Especially if they became resentful of me trying to help. Our relationship would have to change.

That doesn't mean I don't love them. By the time the relationship ends, I'd probably still love them.

Women refusing to stay in clearly toxic relationships, is not a measure of how they feel love. All it suggests is that men are either happier in relationships, or that men are less inclined to leave a bad relationship. (Personally, I suspect the latter. [Mostly from men not being taught what an abusive relationship will look like for them.])

Yes I would sacrifice myself for a man that I love. I gave my second husband one of my kidneys. When his health started going downhill and he could no longer live on his own safely, I insisted that he move back in with me. I am his caregiver and medical POA and I support him financially because he is no longer able to work. It’s fucking rough. But I’m all he has and I’m not going to let him die alone in a nursing home. I may not feel romantic love for him anymore, but he is my family and always will be.

For me, love is a feeling of deep connection, appreciation, and intimacy with another person. It's a bond that's built through shared experiences and truly knowing someone. It's much deeper than skin-deep “she's adorable" or "he's capable, and I admire him." Love grows from understanding who your partner really is and feeling deeply connected to them. It’s your dedication to this person.

I don’t agree with you at all. I have been with my husband through his absolute worst points, I’ve taken shit for him from his family, i have loved him when he was falling apart, have stood by him and stood up for him when he didn’t have the strength to.

I’ve supported him through him going back into education, I worked over 16 hours a day, working two jobs when needed, so he could concentrate just on his studying.

I have sacrificed throughout the years massively for that man. The love I have for him is so much deeper than what you describe

If that’s how you and your husband love each other then I would argue you don’t really love each other

I feel to some extent this is semi true but more nuanced. I’ve let women who I’ve loved go, because they didn’t feel the same way or because I don’t think we would have been a good fit. Doesn’t mean I don’t still care for them even if some of them interpreted it that way(because I kinda suck at communicating). There’s only one woman that I’ve been around that wrong me really bad that I feel a bit indifferent about but no malice. I think it was just a learning lesson for me. At the same time, I do feel that I did cut some of them off because I was too possessive then what I shouldn’t have been but it’s also because I kept receiving mixed signals so idk. Either way I don’t think relationships are for me. I feel like I want to be understood but I don’t think that’s possible. I don’t think women love me as a person, they just love me as a utility. And I don’t think I’m ok with that anymore.

Men do not generally sacrifice themselves to protect women. They usually put themselves first when in emergency situations. Men certainly like to think of themselves as doing brave and noble things but you don't get any credit for doing something in a hypothetical situation.

Men don’t love women, they are doing what society pressured them in to doing.

But you also aren’t describing love at all.

Women aren’t pressured by society to do so, so no probably not, but nowadays men wouldn’t either. Who’s sacrificing themselves anymore? Who would ask someone to do that? Just be happy and find someone who cares for you the way you care for them, it isn’t hard, people just choose to make it that way.

Being attracted to competence and ambition doesn’t mean women don’t love men deeply. And men being more likely to physically protect women isn’t evidence they love more. People are generally more willing to protect someone they see as more physically vulnerable.

I also don’t think either sex has a monopoly on “better” love. Both men and women can love selflessly, conditionally, possessively, or generously. That’s a human trait, not a male or female one.

Some of what you're talking about is attraction. Some of it is the feeling of expectation around a partnership, which if not met, can create resentment.

There's something different about it. As a guy, I don't feel like a woman is going to love me in the same way she might love her child - it's a lot more based on what I can do and provide.

I'm sure women feel a version of that too.
