This does not include sex. Obviously, I know not everyone has sex in high school so it's perfectly normal to be a virgin when you're in college so I'm not concerned about sex. I'm talking about kisses, relationships, dates, basically any romantic interaction that's not sex. I'm 21 and unless holding hands with a girl in 1st grade counts as a romantic experience then I never had a romantic encounter.

One of the reason I've been depressed recently is because of this. And I feel like I'm being gaslit by my family because they claim it's normal to have no experience at this age but I heavily disagree and all my friends either have/had girlfriends, had sex or at least kissed before. I don't know anyone who has zero romantic experience. My brother is in the same boat but apparently has at least had girls ask him for his number before.

I just feel lied to by my family. I was born with an anxiety disorder that's makes me unable to speak so I grew up as a mute at school. My family since I could remember has always entertained the notion of me having a girlfriend so I always thought I had a shot of having one when I was young despite my extreme social deficiency.

But now I realized that my lack of a dating life was because of my disorder. I realize now that a lot of girls probably aren't willing to date a mute, someone who can't even speak to them. Or even befriend for that matter. I wish I acknowledged this earlier as a kid instead of thinking I had a chance with anybody. It would've been easier for me.

So is it normal to be in your early 20s and have no dating experience?
