As I always say

A relationship is generally worth it if it gives you net happiness I.e. Does this person make you happier when you're with them than without them

Relationships in general, whether platonic, familial or romantic are work. They involve compromise, compassion, sacrifice, meeting each others needs etc etc etc

IF the relationship makes you happier than you were when you were single despite all that then yes sure it's worth the commitment

Whether it is or it isn't depends on the individual.

What people fail to understand isn't that you aren't just "competing in the rmv/smv market" you're competing against their lifestyles when they're single.

I think in general finding someone who makes you happier than you were when you were single involves finding someone who:

has goals that fit your goals
has values that fit your values
who enjoys certain things in common with you
who lives a lifestyle compatible to yours, who has life plans that fits your life plans
who has financial plans that fit your financial plans

Whether the average person of your desired gender fits that, well that's up to you.

I wouldn't say that the average woman is better, or more marriageable, than the average man. Only that there will be more average women than there are average men.

Once again, men simply have greater variance. More men will be on both far ends of the spectrum, super put together relationship material and also the bottom-feeder trash.

That said, the average man probably has more in common with the average woman than he does with the men at either end of scale. So, if you believe the average man is of marriageable quality, I would say so is the average woman. But since women have less variability than men, there will simply be a greater number of average, passable women then there will be average passable men+great men.

It depends on what any particular man considers "average."

I personally think men are a lot more picky than they let on. I've read comments here of men saying they're not attracted to women over 30, women over 140lbs, etc.

I've also seen men on various social media platforms rate fit, good looking women as "below average"...

I do think women, on average, put more effort into their physical appearance. I also think more women are socially calibrated, and do a better job at maintaining interpersonal relationships.

I think women have better communication skills, higher levels of empathy, and usually keep their places cleaner than men (on average).

I do think a relationship is usually more beneficial to the average man vs the average woman.

But if a man is getting consistent attention/dates with women, he's likely "above average" in some way, and the average woman probably isn't good enough for him.

If people want a comitted monogamous relationship yes.

If people don't want a monogamous committed relationship then, no.

Comitment and monogamy are actions of choice. No one HAS to enter into these arrangements if they don't want to.

However if a man isn't capable of finding a woman that just wants casual sex or if he can't find a woman that is non-monogamous, then he may have to settle for making a comitment to an average woman if he has no other romantic or sexual options.

If a man wants access to a woman, but can't get said access unless certain conditions of the woman is met, then he has to determine how valuable it is for him to accept these terms or go without having access to women at all.

In other words, the value that an average woman adds to an individual mans life completely depends on that man and what he personally values in addition to his ability to get what he wants more from other women.

As a woman I’m going to say no unless you meet a woman you love to pieces, want kids or you’re trying to climb the social/corporate ladder.

Why? Well there’s absolutely zero incentive to marry. Alot of women today will give up everything to boyfriends with no formal commitment so why bother.

Anyways, I’m very happily married and know others who are as well. And you will never hear a happily married person say they wish they were single. So if you can find someone with whom you can have a happy relationship with, then it’s worth everything.

Most women throughout the world are worth commitment but most women in the West are not worth commitment. I know if I were a man I wouldn’t date 90 percent of these broads. A majority of women are overweight, have debt, and probably have a feminist mindset which is not compatible with maintaining long term heterosexual relationships.

Being overweight for both men and women is bad but for women it directly impairs their fertility. Men want a healthy woman to create children, to be attracted to them, and for them to live long enough to take care of the man and children. Not to mention overweight women are more expensive than thin women due to their medical needs.

Western women tend to have high body counts or behave like a woman that has a high body count. That is unattractive to most men. There is an abundance of information to show that sleeping around impairs a woman’s pair bonding and men don’t want to marry a woman that’s likely to divorce and take half their stuff or worse.

The feminist mindset most western women have also impairs their ability to be a good long term partner for men. Men are simple, they want to come home to a clean house, a woman with a positive attitude, and takes care of their needs.

Men are the ones that finance their women. Choosing a woman with a lot of debt is a bad option for men because they would be held responsible for that debt. Women aren’t expected to bring much to the table other than to smile, so the least they can do is not be reckless with money.

I'd say both. Except in a monogamous context. I think men are more likely to cheat than women. They tend to objectify much more than women.

No. Everyone should stay single, celibate and child free.

On a more serious note though women usually bring a lot to the table unless they’re a complete and utter train wreck. Extra income, expansion of your social network that can help advance your life or career, free domestic labor that saves you time and money, emotional outlet, sex that will provide you with an orgasm more often than not, fertility/children with minimal effort from the man’s part(barring medical issues).

Average men can be good for long term relationships if they bring money, paternal investment and dependability.

I think anyone you consider at or above your “league” for lack of a better word is worth a commitment if you are looking for someone to commit to.

My husband and I both see each other as sufficiently attractive, compatible people. I don’t need him to lie and tell me I’m more attractive than ScarJo or whatever, I just need him to find me attractive and want to be with me. Same goes the other way—I’m attracted to him and that’s good enough to move on to compatibility. Turns out we were extremely compatible people and that was that.

What you need to justify taking the leap and approaching/dating someone should be based off of what you’re looking for in a partner, not what everyone else says is the best. Everyone has different needs and methods of meeting them.

They could, & ideally should be, though contemporary Western society has largely destroyed people's ability to be a proper wife or husband. I try to say yes and think positively, but I'd say overall...no, they aren't. Most women tend to have a bad habit of assuming you couldn't manage life, up until then. Constantly correcting or nagging about things becomes overwhelming, I'm a grown man, I've done this without you.....
